This is by far the best tutorial video for splendor on YT, the rules are a bit confusing in some areas but this has explained them perfectly!

You all are my go to to check out games. It's obvious that you enjoy yourselves and I like that you show all the ins and outs of a game. Thanks.

I think it great idea that you explained the game and then play it as well so, it gives a real sense of how to play the game for the first time and what to expect. I like when you give ideas of potential move options and later discuss the possible choices a player could have made. I believe this is a game my family will really enjoy playing and I will buy it. I bought this game and I like it. It is so competitive, last time I played it with my siblings, we even hide our gems on hand so that no one know how many we had and what we plan to buy next. If we found out what other players wanted to do, we reserve the card to block it. Even one time my sister dominated all the diamond and non of us able to buy (most of the face up card cost is diamond in that game).

You are not supposed to hide the gem. The number of gems should be visible to all so that when u have more than 10 of it you have to return them to the pool till u have 10 only.

The rules are simple but once they started playing I saw the game is actually very deep

I think you guys didn't realise the bottom row is all about getting the resource pools scaled to all you to move up the board. The whole point being getting as many of those cards face up in front of you as quickly as you can.

Really depends on your strategy. Sometimes you can build your strategy on taking 6 cards only.

You would expect engine building to be a winning strategy in an engine building game, but this one is all about securing a path to victory and being efficient. I always have the smallest engine in the group and still win often

This is one of my favorite episodes. About midway through, I thought Lincoln and Nikki were pretty even. Seeing how one engine sputtered by lack of the right cards, and another took off with the right cards was a great demonstration. Well played.

Yeah, I agree. I wish I could say we planned it that way, but we kinda just lucked into a game in which almost everything, strategy-wise, showed up :)

I tried finding another video of the marvel version but this popped up so I figured I'd see how 4 players went since the marvel one was just the two of you. 😂 This seems as fun as the marvel one but a but different of course.

I have only play it in two players mode. And the first turn player wins everytime. Does it happen to you too?

While the game seems great, I had difficulties watching this episode. It's been pointed out that Dave sometimes dominates the game too much in other episodes, and I agree with that. Mostly it has been in cooperative games, so I get that he's more experienced and just wants to share his strategy knowledge and such. But in this one it bothered me a lot - Dave seemed to tell other players what to do A LOT even before Nikki went into lead.

weirdojax you can take 3 new chips, but you have to return 3 chips. Or, if the stack has 4 or more, you can take 2 of those, but have to return 2. In the begining they say "You can draw more than 10, but have to immediately pair down to 10."

With any 10 chips, there's never going to be not atleast 1 card possible to buy...

The guy that explained the rules did a great job. Just be aware that you say "um" a lot!

Let's say there's a stack of 4 black and 3 white gem, and that's all. Can I take 1 black and 1 white gem , even if there is no third color available? Or am I obliged to instead take 2 black?

I just started playing Splendor! Question regarding Nobles. If you earn enough to be visited by more than one noble, does this mean you would have to completely fulfill each noble independently? Meaning of 1 noble requires 3 blue, 3 red and 3 brown. And another noble requires 3 blue, 3 white and 3 green... does the 3 blue in your hand count twice? Or would you have to have 6 blue in total? I feel like it's the latter but I can't find confirmation anywhere.

😊The 3 blue gems you have count towards each noble. You do not need 6. However, you just cannot take both nobles on the same turn.

Thought you have to use the coins first before the cards?

I agree with the need for theme but it could have been accomplished better with the gem/theme. Lincoln at one point was wanting more description, or title on all the cards in the array. I think it would benefit the game on that front. Names on the nobles, titles on the artisans, maybe locations of the mines, something more than just a picture on the card would help push the thematic feel over the top. All in all a fun looking game with lots to think about. I might grab it. Thx

I was nervous and triggered why Niki didn't take the blue card that is in the right bottom raw in this turn 40:46.😭😭. It's a great free card that pushes her up

I didn't know Richard Dreyfuss was a board gamer.

One problem in the rules! when you reserve a card, you're not allowed to use the gold chip until you buy that card.

Steven, while I'm not 100% when it comes to explaining rules for games (heh, you try and be the guy that explains almost all the games your group plays :P), I definitely got this one right. I have *no* idea where you got this... idea. But that is definitely *not* the rule when it comes to using any of your Gold (joker) chips. Maybe you were taught the rules incorrectly by someone else? Anyway, from the rules: "To purchase a card, a player must spend the number of tokens indicated on the card. A joker token can replace any color" and then later: "A player may purchase one of the face-up development cards in the middle of the table or a card in his hand that was reserved on a previous turn." And that's it - there are *no* qualifications nor restrictions on how gold can be used. All Gold are basically wild/jokers and can be used at any time, just like your other chips.

I would love to play Splendor with you guys. I am AP prone but this is ridiculous! Who reserves cards in turn 2?!?! Worst Case: Reserve a card on turn 4 resulting in your tenth chip, when you are blocked from buying in turn 4. First turn take 2 of one type if the bottom row requirements are all that color. Buy based on requirement Counts (3 vs 5).

it's deceptively simple. not unlike dominion to be fair. But still, it's one of those games that easy to learn, hard to master.

There was a lot of bickering over the Nobles right after the first turn. My group has house-ruled that the nobles are all face down until the first 3rd tier property card has been purchased. This prevents people from fixating on Nobles and arguing non-stop about it. We also ruled that when the Nobles flip face up, that it's possible to acquire more than one if you happen to attract multiples when they're revealed, causing some exciting games where someone could chain into several of them at once and win the game.

Hey guys I don't know your channel I just stumbled into it. I only watched some random 5 minutes of the video in the middle. I just wanna leave a little feedback. I would like the video much better if you kept filming the board most of the time. Instead you keep filming your faces, that is bad because I can't pay attention and keep track on what's happening on the game. So it's nice to see your facial expressions and reactions, but for me it should be in a much smaller scale than it is.

I play that game and it was really fun. It is an abstract deck building game, light, easy to teach and easy to learn. The picture is just a facade. You could have put naked women on the cards and the game would have been the same. The components are really awesome and feel like pokers.

Lincoln Damerst just to clear it up. when you have two visitors you have to choose the one u want. the other one goes back. this lets you stragegize againt others but u cant count both points.

craig clark Actually, they applied that rule numerous times throughout the game. In fact, Dave endlessly harped on the way Rusty left more than 4 diamonds on the stack which allowed Nicki to take 2 and win the game.

Well you have to understand that they don't play these games as one normally would because they discuss strategy and options out loud for audience benefit. Particularly in Splendor, keeping your cards close to your chest (literally and figuratively) is an important aspect of preventing others from blocking your progress.

+Matt Bauler for me its an advantage as you can reserve the gold coin for future upcoming development card and assuming its the least and most need color...as long as you dont use the gold coin to buy the reserve card...
