Deep Cut have very well defined personalities. In my opinion Frye seems to be chipper but is easy to anger. Shiver seems to be cool but fumbles from time to time. Big Man goes all out when it is important but is chill most of the time

One tiny detail I haven't seen anyone mention is how when Small Fry turns back to normal, if you pay attention, DJ Octavio actually slows down so that Agent 3 can stand up and reach out to him. He only picks up speed again when Small Fry is safely returned to 3. Something about that is endearing to me.

17:30 I think this cutscene is my favorite. Captain getting a chance to shine, and unleashing an entire campaigns worth of stress relief on the rocket, before immediately collapsing and leaving everything to the new agent. Incredible…

I love how even though they don't speak, the Captain is made out to be super dramatic. "Simply can't go on"? Something tells me that's not Marie's own words, and the cutscene with the machine was so over-the-top and awesome. Captain 3 is a god.

Bandit in Japanese is "Sanzoku." Zoku means robber and "San" in this case means mountain, so "mountain robbers." However the number 3 in Japanese is also "San." Deep Cut are literally three bandits and Splatoon 3 loves to make references to the number 3 while Octo Expansion made references to the number 8. Just a fun little pun the developers made with them :p

I don't think I've ever seen more character packed into silent character as I have Captin Agent 3. They never directly speak a word but their character animation and tiny interaction absolutely sells it!

Imagine we got series with the agents going on adventure, trying to stop DJ Octavio after he created his own splat beak Splatoon and when I mean agent, I mean all the agents agent three captain three(the old agent three) agent four and agent eight, and it would be very cool if we actually got their real names, and I like each agent to have their own personality captain three will be like serious and always on task, but does crack a joke every now and again. agent three could be like an experience newbie( experienced because she was in the wasteland, but newbie because she still a rookie in the new splat beak, Splatoon) agent eight could have like a kind, but quiet, personality and agent four is the complete opposite of captain three being a complete hotshot and doesn’t listen to orders much also while agent eight agent three and three are girls agent four is the only boy since again he is the opposite of Captain three so opposite gender there and the only thing agent four and captain three have in common is they both like the crack jokes only agent four does it ALL THE TIME I also like to see in this series like new octan enemies, some of the old cast from the games like pearl and Marina along with dead fish and some new locations, new different species, there are similar to the octal and inklings and some old(bosses from the games) and new bosses I think this will be a pretty cool idea.

I never played the original splatoon, but getting to know Callie in this game has definitely made her my fav out of the two squid sisters

What's funniest to me about Deep Cut is that Frye is the only one who didn't mess up her exit.

*they Captain 3 throughout the game is described at they/them, because the character can be presented as either the boy/girl inkling depending on what the player has them look like. You can change it at the beginning of the story mode, at Cuttlefish's cabin.

Has anyone else noticed that the Squid Sisters have the same talking animations as they had in 1 and 2? Deep Cut’s talking animations are super smooth, while the Squid Sister’s are a bit choppy. I don’t mind at all, I actually think it’s a nice detail.

i noticed that too, their mouths aren’t animated at all. i think it’s cause their models haven’t changed since the 1st game as compared to deep cut, who are relatively new. their eyebrows don’t move as much either. they may be rigged differently

3:45 I like how this simple scene of Cuttlefish first being introduced to Smallfry also shows how much of a fucking chad Cuttlefish probably was on the battlefield during The Great Turf War. This old little senile squid is over here, trembling and rambling and shit, yet when Smallfry scampers around, he never lets it leave his sight. Like at all. Plus, he was able to dance in Splatoon 1 with no issues. It feels that if he wasn't turned into talking squid jerky, he would've probably been able to beat any regular squid's ass, with maybe minor back pain afterward

I kept thinking to myself “this game can’t possibly get weirder” and I kept getting proven wrong lmao

Fun fact: the DLC for splatoon 3 that the squid research lab mentioned is Pearl and Marina related DLC just like Octo expansion. In one of the scrolls you can see pearl and marina in the same pose meaning it’s them or most likely them. :)

Just got the time and beat it! I have simply too much to say, I was so happy my theories were correct! The animation is so lively, and the dialogue so funny, this story mode was bursting with awesomeness! The little details (like Captain 3 falling over) and hilarious facial expressions had me! I was really hoping Deep Cut would be goofy Team Rocket style villains, and they were!! Right down to the Team Rocket part! Our agent walking up to super-powered Mr. Grizz was reminding me of a certain manga panel... The gameplay was absolutely amazing, and the art direction and writing brought it together!! So awesome! Not to mention the absolutely AMAZING call-backs! The MUSIC! Yet another masterpiece from this great series!!

The only thing i dislike about this is how off the hook didnt join in at the calamari inkantation mix. I understand that they will have their own dlc later but still. I hope we have a freaking 4MIX for the DLC. And... how more epic can you get than saving the world from your employer who wants to bring back mammals?

Considering how the new Captain is capable of essentially using Kaio-ken and fly around at like superman at will I don't think they'd be needed here. Not to mention the new Captain apparently learned how to use a blade based off the same cutscene here: 17:30

Who else thinks that Captain is really out of shape? They're shown moving one thing during the Brief Construction Montage and is exhausted during the Mr. Grizz reveal, only getting active after activating their "Special". My headcanon logic suggests that after becoming the new Captain, they never had much time to Splat.

i just realized that its called the Octobot King L3.Gs because it has legs. I also noticed that it's clear from the start that Octavio's mech isn't being powered by by the fact it seems to use rocket thrusters to get around and needs legs to move instead of hovering.

i cried and laughed when captain 3 revived cuttlefish and when they did the booyah signal at the end, like we got to raise a character in the first one and get to see them develop across the next games and i think its really awesome they implemented that detail

I wonder how they determine Captain 3's appearance since we never get the option to choose for ourselves. Regardless, it's still neat how she managed to look the same as what I picked for OE. Maybe it pulled from my 2 save data, but then I wonder about the folks who never played OE.

You can actually customize the captains appearance in this game like in Octo Expansion. There's a small sketch pad in the canyon tutorial area that you can interact with.

You actually customize how they look in the very start of this game. There’s a bunch of food load out and a picture of Captain 3 that you can decide wether they are a boy or a girl

Nah man that part is like the coolest shit ever- riding a stream of eels on a motorcycle+shark into space to fight a giant goddamn bear is so cool its cool its just so cool

I'm not into competitive play (I don't have the "pro strats" as it were, I've never been good at shooters), but I'm so tempted to get Splatoon 3 because of how much I enjoyed the story mode and Salmon Run in 2... Deep Cut's kind of just winning me over as it is as well.

Anyone else worried about how Mr. Grizz is notably just the third ursine anomaly? What are the other two, is there a fourth?

The english version might have phrased it that way to signify that there's two other -ursine- anomalies, but... Judd and Lil' Judd technically are also anomalies, if not ursine, and they were the first and second mammals to appear.
