I don't think real venom would do this. The explanation for why venom did such things was unclear. Venom isn't evil, he hated Spider-Man because he rejected the symbiote after the symbiote tried helping Peter so many times and Eddie Brock also got his life ruined by Peter when he lost his job and girlfriend. He was at his lowest point in life when he became venom. Ideally Venom changed Eddie to become a better man.

One thing that's always guaranteed with a Spiderman story involving Venom: It's gonna be dark. It didn't have to go as hard as it did and I love it. It feels almost like a Prototype game with the symbiote spreading like a virus

@@iceice021 Yes, it is. Insomiac made a huge point that Spider-Man can be someone other than Peter Parker. Venom, especially since it’s a symbiote that can latch onto anyone, can also be anyone it wants. I honestly think having Venom be Peter’s best friend who’s being manipulated by an evil parasite is way better for this story than “I’m a reporter and Spider-Man ruined my life somehow because I screwed up a news story. Gotta destroy everything he loves now”

Insomniac just took the things that made Eddie Brock's Venom work at face value (Like the implication that Knull exists in this universe) and slapped them into a half baked Harry that is not even consistent with his motivations.

It's such a tragic and fucked up line at once. Tragic in how it sounds like it's Harry wanting to let his dad know he's going to be okay but it's also tragic as it shows how Harry is diluted into believing that Venom is helping him be come stronger and health without him realizing it's making him a puppet. Fucked up in how it's a sick ironic truth of what Norman wanted and caused as he played with a cosmic creature without understanding that he was fucking with forces beyond human control. He wanted to make a way to save his son but all he did was condemn him into what might've been eternal servitude to a creature that sees him as a puppet and a means if survival

Symbiotes in general are extremely intimate with their hosts. So when their hosts reject them it's like being married for 20 years and then suddenly getting a divorce after finding out your partner has been sleeping with somebody else.

“We will heal the world.” This line has two different meanings that I feel describes Harry and Venom perfectly. For Venom, it shows how he genuinely thinks infecting (possibly to spread Knull’s will given how the infected Symbiotes look like) the world will “help” everyone, that he’s doing them a favor, telling Peter that “we ARE your friend,” and being a mix of possibly being hurt and angry that he’s fighting the gift he is “bestowing” upon him. For Harry, it shows how he thinks the world can be a better place for everyone, and even if he’s dying, he wants to change the world and help it before he dies, and puts himself above others, almost killing himself to save the world from Venoms “Gift.” Maybe I’m wrong or reading too much into this, but that’s what I think at least.

Venom really gets treated unfairly. Even Kraven who killed multiple people and is actively trying to kill SM get spared because killing is bad, while Venom, who had Peter's back many times, should be destroyed as soon as deemed dangerous.

Sounds pretty accurate. After a certain point for Venom it was just the suit talking. Vs Miles it was saying how Miles was jealous of Peter’s arrangement with it, how Miles stole Peter from it. Venom wanted to essentially conquer the world and use healing it as a front, kinda like the Lizard in ASM1

I’m more inclined to think that Venom is more so like a virus. Its only goal is to replicate and it has the capabilities of throwing your emotions into overdrive when it comes to jealousy, insecurity and hatred. Venom doesn’t have thoughts or particular inclinations towards anyone or anything else. He doesn’t care about Spider-Man or anyone else in particular. It seems like it does because it is what Harry wants. And since it aligns with Venoms interests to have Spider-Man on their side, not stopping it from world domination, he uses that aspect of Harry wanting Peter on his side to try and sway Peter. Venom essentially takes on the personality of its host after perfect fusing and uses the hosts goals and motivations to drive its main purpose, world domination and replication. Harry wanted to heal the world, so venoms main goal was masked as healing it. If it had been someone else who wanted to punish the world, venoms goal would be passed off as punishing the world.

@@nikhilshenoy762 I have few nitpicks with this theory. First, as you said, Venom tries to sway Peter. Harry is angry with Peter, he thinks Peter is trying to keep the symbiote and left him to die, why not fuel his anger and kill off Spider-man or at least forcefully convert without attempts of persuasion? Second, Venom the symbiote established itself as a person, and gets angry when called "thing". This is not just a tactical miscalculation but also confirms that the symbiote has an ego and cares about the opinions of others about it. Third, symbiote made it clear that it holds grudges towards Kraven, Miles and Peter for being separated from og SM. On one hand it is understandable, Peter is a stronger host and losing him is interring with the mission and on the other hand Venom brings it up to Peter too, and calls it betrayal indicating that it was personal. What do you think?

I hope there's even a small hope, in a new continuity or if there's another peice of him left, that Venom actually becomes a Anti-hero like in the Venom films and actually becomes Spider-man's best friend and brother. I don’t think the Venom symbiote was redeemable at all in this game. From the moment it bonded with Harry, it manipulated his mind that he would do the right thing by turning everyone else into symbiote puppets, including Harry’s friends. The symbiote in this game is just as bad as in Web of Shadows. Started off as twisting its host and eventually devolved into Venom just using them as a battery, vaguely even pretending they care for their hosts interests.

The director discussed about a potential Venom spin-off. Maybe that's when it will bond with Eddy Brock and give us more explainations about Venom's prior motives, and will make him an Anti-Hero.

All the things you named that make him “peak venom” come from Eddie 😂 If you guys read king in black you’d have a heart attack 😭 Not only does venom get wings there(that’s where the inspiration is from in this game), he becomes the true king in black, picks up thors hammer and silver surfers board and fuses them into a battle axe and proceeds to bully Knull then kills him. Expect “Venom” in this game doesn’t want to kill Spider-Man. He even asked Peter to join him. And all the build up for Venom would be great if it weren’t like two cutscenes and Peter and Harry were on the same on page for all the game expect for those two cutscenes. They were best friend for all the game, Peter is a jerk to him once and somehow the result is a big monster with teeth. The reason they gava on why they made Harry Venom is because they wanted to make a more original story and to make a story where Venom is Peter’s best friend which doesn’t make sense. Harry was already Venom in the Ultimate Spider-man cartoon (heck Venom being a Peter friend is a concept they have already used in Spettacular and the ultimate comics) and this is the third they use this trope “the villain is protagonist friend”

Yeah just show Peter generally scared for Harry instead of just cracking jokes.

I was not expecting to get to play as Venom in this one! The remember how brutal Venom was to play in Ultimate Spider-man, how his tentacles hit like a train, how his super jump felt like it broke the sound barrier and that back breaking move you could do on some poor thugs... Whooooooooo boyyyyyyyy. This game really brought back that same feeling of Venom's terrifying power!

this might be my favorite spider man storyline ever. the fact that insomniac isn’t afraid to do original things is so great and is the reason why i love the games

12:47 you can see as venom begins to come forth Harry's face begins to deteriorate same as when the symbiote left him. Its not healing him so much as simply postponing the inevitable like it did with Eddie in the comics. The symbiote is wearing him and we see that clear as day right here

In terms of story I was feeling the slightest bit during the first half just because I wasn't getting that novel excitement that I got from the two previous entries however then it picked up into high gear and I absolutely loved it. The game just kind of takes its time

Yeah it's a slow burn type of story where you start big but it gives you time to calm down before it thrusts you back into the deep end

In my case, I was kind of hoping it wouldn’t be Harry because it had been done once before in the Ultimate cartoon. It was bad. Like really *really* bad. Here it doesn’t sting for me because there was an actual arc. Still kinda miss Eddie Brock, but I can work with this.

Actually we all knew Harry was going to be the first Venom in this game, I just hope if they a Venom solo game Eddie Brock becomes the next host.

Everything about this Venom was perfect. Us Spidey fans needed it after all these years of that awful live action Sony's Venom.

If Venom was so powerful, I can't even imagine how powerful Carnage is going to be. I hope Carnage isn't just a DLC. That wouldn't do him justice.

God just seeing how good he looks in design makes me tear up lol. I wish we’d get more games this good. This should be the standard for making a game at least the best way possible storywise and respect to the source material

There could be no one better then Tony Todd as Venom. A brillaint choice. A bit disapointing though his voice is made deep yet quiet here. However, giving the alien lifeform that Venom is. it actually works very well with his character.

I KNOW his voice IS that deep, but the type of voice he uses here is a bit more lower in volume then what it is usally thats what I meant when i said his vocie was "made" quiet here. Venom has TT classic deep alien voice but it is a bit more quiet then usally and not as booming. Deep yet quiet voice. But it still works, since this is an alien.

Finally seeing someone do Venom justice is a breath of fresh air and SOOO satisfying

In Spiderman Marvel them main goal of the main antagonists' have been, at the beginning, to make the world a better place, but over time it was twisted to doubt, hate and revenge.

I love how in this game it’s gonna play a similar story like web of shadows man I can’t wait to play it

They have single handed made a masterpiece of a universe for marvel.

Harry becoming venom is realy epic, realistic and not so scary

Tony Todd is the best sounding venom we will ever get. The man has the booming voice of a deep voiced angel that doubles as a demon.

I like the venoms whole deal is to create a world of symbiotes. Just like Knull did in the comics. I am not surprised if ever knull will be canon in this game I bet not. Also I noticed the symbiote imps have spirals in their faces. Which is a nice touch on what the comics had. As well venom having wings, man this game is so amazing even tho I have no interest to buy it I enjoy watching gameplay of it. Venom is possibly my most favorite anti hero/ villain at all time so far. This game should absolutely be on the top of best games out there.

No point of Knull if you don’t have Eddie though. The king in Black story is so good because of Eddie. But most people haven’t read it and all they know is venom gets wings and there’s a cool guy named knull 😭

I think they could develop Eddie in a DLC. Where they develop their hatred for Spider-Man, perhaps they could have Annie dying due to Spider-Man's carelessness, then Eddie develops his anger for Spider-Man. Then Eddie is angry with Spider-Man for losing his girlfriend and Simbonte for being abandoned. Then they become the real Venom. Then Eddie's Venom is defeated, but later returns in his solo game. Where Eddie is the protagonist, going to San Francisco

We'll he'll need a new host, Harry looks to be done with Symbiotes.

I was wondering how they were going to flesh out Harry's symbiote plot ever since the teasers in the past games, i was a bit skeptical. But damn, they really went and did it like this and it was awesome from beginning to end. This game's climax just hits you constantly with so much "HOLY SHIT" over the top moments it's just perfect. I hope Eddie Brock gets the symbiote in a dlc or a subplot in the next game or even have Cletus Cassidy show up and get Carnage.

I’m positive Eddie will show up in this series in some way. Insomniacs planning on making a Venom game. Maybe Eddie will show up in the DLC.

Someday Venom will be part of the gameplay in upcoming Spider-Man sequel.

I love how they drew inspiration from web of shadows. In web of shadows venom actually succeeds overtaking the world. It’s your job to fight all throughout New York and find a solution to this Apocalypse. One of my favorite childhood games.

I had my doubts about harry being venom (mainly because I’m traumatized about what ultimate spider-man the tv show did with venom) but I’m glad to see insomniac did venom good

Lord this game is giving major web of shadows vibes

One thing about this version of Venom that I love is that how they made Venom as a separate character apart from having to form as one with either peter or harry and having tony todd voice the character of venom was unique they didnt have to use the voice actor that voiced harry to voice venom as a 2nd character it gave me darth vader vibes like how star wars did it. I wish they did something like this with the venom films than just having tom hardy portray eddie brock and voice venom but overall 2nd favorite version character alongside with venom films.

Gotta give some respect to Web of Shadows for the inspiration, but I think this game actually pulled off a good spiderman story in 2023. So impressive, and more than that: so refreshing. Thank you from a genuine spiderman fan.

I wasnt actually expecting to play as Venom, so it caught me off guard. It was so amazing.

Venom was handled perfectly in the game, from the small teases leading to the big reveal and getting to play as Venom, felt like a dream come true in Spider-Man 2! Insomniac Games nailed the character design, one of my favorite portrayals of the character 👏👏👏

Seeing Venom turn all of New York into a symbiote infested version of New York is honestly how I would imagine the zombie apocalypse would be like

They went way more deep into the symbiote lore then I thought we all knew venom would be in the game and I was expecting the carnage scene (which was still awesome btw) but the deep cuts were so cool like antivenom with the actually kinda comic accurate origin scream getting a boss fight was unexpected but so cool and they even had knull references in the game Edit: I forgot to mention aswell but some of the basic enemy symbiotes look the the sleeper symbiote which was a really cool reference (it’s the yellow and black ones I’m talking about btw)

I love this version of Venom, he looks terrific and stronger than Tom Hardy’s Venom. I’ve just finished the game yesterday y it was awsome the whole gameplay. Thanks Insomniac for developing this masterpiece.
