Undefeated welterweight world champion Errol Spence Jr. retained his IBF title with an impressive stoppage of former champion Lamont Peterson in the main event of Saturday night’s SHOWTIME card from Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York.
In his first defense since dethroning Kell Brook last May, Spence (23-0, 20 KOs) out boxed a tough Peterson (35-4-1, 17 KOs) from start to finish, showcasing a wide array of skills, speed and power. The fight was stopped prior to the start of the eighth round after Peterson’s trainer, Barry Hunter, called for the stoppage.
The fight played out similar to how both fighters predicted, starting in a cagey tactical affair before it turned into an aggressive fight in the middle rounds. Two minutes into round five, Spence used a blistering left hook to send Peterson to the canvas. The Washington, D.C. native returned to his feet and continued to battle, but Spence proved to be too much. The 2012 U.S. Olympian out landed Peterson 161-45, while connecting on 49% of his power punches to just 31% for Peterson.
Peterson, who fought valiantly against the younger Spence, respected the decision of his trainer to stop the fight, “If he asks me to fight a million people, I will. If he asks me to stop. I will stop. I will never question his decision. I know he has my best interests at heart.”

It’s crazy how people say Crawford can switch stances but Spence can shift stances while punching from southpaw which is actually better Hagler and Spence can hit u leading with either stance but stay southpaw kinda like mike Tyson when he used to shift to southpaw and orthodox while he leaped in to close the distance with a gazelle hook if u watch round 7 Spence footwork was beautiful I think Spence really hasn’t had to realy go in his bag yet every fight u see Spence doing some shit in certain moments they say he’s basic that’s actually scary if he’s basic and he’s beating guys with basic shit like a simple 1 2 and body shots imagine when he gets in his bag

Congrats to Spence he looked quick and light on his feet. Lamont Peterson deserves respect for not quitting, and his coach cares about him. They both have my respect.
Round 6 & 7. Errol has a lot more wrinkles to his game than he shows. Bud about to find out.

Lamont fought a dumb fight. Errol punches to hard to try and block everything. He should've been turning Spence and firing. In the 2nd round he was giving Spence problems.

If you watch the replay a lot of those low blows are right on the belt line. He does have a tendency to hit low from time to time but it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to bee. 75% of the shots the red called low were not even below the belt.
