I can get the fail safe to cut the throttle but I was hoping to have my ruddder deflect to cause the plane to gently circle, with a light touch of UP elevator. When I test it only the throttle cut engages. I am flying the T-28 1.1 with the AR631 rx

Droneman, we set failsafe so the plane flies in a circle and descending slowly so when it hits the ground it's not so violent or very far away.

If the plane is on a down-line when it looses connection, can it be made to level out and bank slightly so that it flies a circle all the way down?

I set my AS3X/SAFE receivers to go into a 25 degree bank in the SAFE Failsafe menu. With a non-gyro receiver, I do the normal bind that makes the surfaces hold their last position.

I do/try to too, but I can’t always get safe failsafe to work when simulating tx/rx separation. It seems to just follow the hold last setting. I have also noted setting one flight mode to safe with as3x, another as3x with heading hold on pitch and roll, and another with very small as3x only, that I have to still set safe gains on non-safe flight modes in order for safe not to operate on these channels. Weird, but I’ve followed all the 637T/8360T/10360T instructions and gone over possible conflicting settings, but no light. I have been able to set safe and safe failsafe correctly on a few occasions, but most setups have the problems I describe. If I don’t zero safe gain on non-safe flight modes, but only set safe on for the chosen safe flight mode. I get safe on all three modes. Any clues?

@@christopherkcrowley7024 I set the AS3X gains to the same values and the SAFE gains to the same values on all 3 flight modes. The main reason for the SAFE gains to be the same is that they're used for panic mode. However, I no longer set up panic mode in my planes. Horizon uses FM4 for SAFE failsafe; however, they don't set the gains to same values they used for the SAFE flight mode. I think they use FM4 because most people will never find it and change the values. You have to enable 4 or more FM's to see it or else edit the SRM with FlightEngr's SASMB. Also, FlightEngr has said there is a bug in the firmware that affects SAFE failsafe. I don't really check what the flight controls do in failsafe, so I haven't noticed a problem. I'd try a different version of the firmware and see if it changes what you're seeing.

can I be honest with you, what good does that do if the plane is flying away from the field and it looses connection its just going to keep going isnt it? its not a return to home feature like on a dji drone. so whats the real purpose if it looses connection, its just going to keep flying away and engine cuts off and just crashes or am I missing something?

This video is for planes with Forward Programming, i.e. SRXL2 protocols. By setting FAILSAFE with the THROTTLE set to zero, the plane will lose power and descend. It's attitude when hitting the ground is dependent on the control surfaces FAILSAFE configuration. If it is a SAFE Rx in it, you set it for SAFE mode which should level it. I also configure my planes with retracts and flaps so they are UP. If your plane has no stab, a neutral position would be best with a slight aileron or rudder position so it circles to a crash landing. Unless it is a high-wing type trainer (HWTWD) with dihedral, it will go in at almost any angle, meaning a Bonafide CRASH. A HWTWD model may level off and come down similar to the model with a stab set to SAFE mode. With a HWTWD, or any model with SAFE, you have a chance of a level landing close by. With circling (slight aileron or rudder set) you have a chance the model stays closer. Without circling the plane should descend in a straight line in the direction it was heading when it went to failsafe.
