OpenTx Tutorial • Failsafe Options Explained with Radio Examples • [Beginners]

Ғылым және технология

During a recent Livestream, I did a segment on OpenTx failsafe options and several Livestream participants encouraged me to make that segment available as a standalone video. So I carved out the failsafe segment, added an intro, and trimmed it a touch here and there.
Unfortunately, even though the source video on KZread is 1080p, the downloaded copy from KZread is only 720p which I re-scaled to 1080p. So if any of the text doesn't appear crisp, that's why.

Nice clear explanation - especially on the different options -thanks. A couple of comments: be careful with Futaba receivers as their failsafe throttle value is reversed (+100 not -100). Also some of the 'clone' receivers wont accept commands from the TX so you need to use the "receiver" option as John explained.

Another great vid John. I've followed most of your vids to set my RM TX16S. I have set my F/S on the 'custom' pre sets. They appeared fine with -100 on Throttle which is the most important for me. Any idea why 'they' pre set those numbers particularly on the A, E & R channels? Appears set to glide down?? One thing that I didn't understand well was the 'Receiver' mode. My understanding of your explanation was that the F/S defaults to where ever the stick positions were. If this is the case, it's likely you may say no, it's similar as 'Hold" ? lastly, you said " I hit the F/S button on the receiver". I am confused. Is there a F/S button on a receiver or is it an assigned button the TX to activate F/S?. Sorry, this got lengthy.

I set up fail safe with the throttle about 40%. When I was walking to my plane, and pick it up, the signal was swamped, and the fail safe kicked in. The propeller started to spin. I believe throttle cut was set. Have you noticed something like this?

hi..i have some trouble to assign a safe select switch on my eachine tx16s running openTX after tried many and different ways (watching youtube and contacting Spektrum usa)..... im not able to do it. all is working escept the assignment of the switch. so please can you post a video showing how to bind and set up a safe select switch with a spektrum AR631 on OpenTX (if you have that receiver and if you can) ? it would really help me a lot.... thanks

Interesting. A warning about throttle, it's tempting to set the throttle to closed on loss of signal, that's OK for electric power, but not for internal combustion. It may be better to set the throttle to a fast idle. If you get the link back you can power back up and continue to fly safely to a landing. If the throttle closes completely then the engine might stop and if you get the link back you have a dead stick and forced landing.

David, Thanks for sharing. I purposely avoided getting into recommended failsafe settings because I found out discussing the subject live that it can be a *highly* subjective topic. So I made a decision to steer clear of failsafe configuration recommendations. I do appreciate you took the time to write--thank you.

I am setting up a Z3 fpv w an R-XSR connected via sbus and a QX7. Do I have to do a custom failsafe with the RTH switch for it to go to RTH with signal loss or will it do it automatically?

  • @RCVideoReviews

    @RCVideoReviews

    3 жыл бұрын

Without firing it up and testing, I can't answer this for sure. What I would suggest is with the prop off, turn the radio off and see if the Z3 status light changes to indicate RTH. If it does, you're all set. Most RTH flight controllers do switch to RTH mode on loss of signal, but you should verify. If not, it's very easy to set custom pulses.

Failsafe is presented as an option when you select protocols that provide failsafe. If you don't see it, it's not an option. Likewise, if it's not an option, it should not be warning you it's not set. Something is missing here...

I do not see a Failsafe mode setting in my Model Setup screen (Radiomaster TX16s). When I get down to the low power mode, the next feature is External RF. I just received the radio the other day. Thanks

If the radio doesn't show failsafe during bind it's because the receiver doesn't support it.

Failsafe is protocol dependent from the MPM. If the RX supports it, the option is presented. If the protocol does not support it, it is not presented.

  • @RCVideoReviews

If the RX supports setting failsafe on the Rx itself--do that. Normally that's done by setting stick positions and pressing the bind/fs button.

If failsafe isn't shown it's because it's not supported for the protocol you are using.

The fastest thing is to write a special function to override your throttle channel to -100. There are better options though: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i2SZrah6drHLiJs.html
