Spektrum Transmitter Tutorial: Setting up flaps with flight modes

This guide goes through the process of combining flaps with flight modes. I can confirm that this works with the new (black) Dx6 and Dx7 and I assume it can work with any of the new "black" transmitters that have Spektrum's newer UI. However, I know that this trick is NOT POSSIBLE using a Spektrum Dx6e and I suspect it might not be possible on the Dx8e, but I haven't confirmed this yet.

Thank you for an excellent tutorial. I was getting very frustrated! You are patient and explain not just how to make the adjustments, but why to do so. For us newbies, please continue to share your knowledge. The learning curve is daunting without veterans like you giving us a helping hand!

Just what I was looking for, just got DX9 BE today and was trying to figure out the flight modes and how to use them. Way simpler than adding elevator to the flap/ele page while on the ground. Thanks

Great video! The Dx6 was out of stock and I bought the DX6e and Ar620 TX. My first Spektrum TX and I followed your instructions setting up my new Timber X and it did work perfectly. All the menus were exactly the same as your TX. Again thanks for this great video!

This is a great use of Flight Modes for a flaps plane so it will store trim settings in real time for each flap setting rather than going into the flaps menu. Thanks, so far I like it. Changed it on the UMX Timber and Turbo Timber.

Neat. It must've been a firmware update, because I tried doing this with two of my buddy's Dx6e back in 2018 and the option wasn't there.

is there any reason I would want to set up a " F-Mode" , switch if my plane does not have flaps? ..... thanks

I have some handlaunch planes setup where 1 flight mode has a lot of up elevator to let the plane climb off after I chuck it. Then, once I get both hands on the transmitter and the plane is at a good altitude, I can flip the switch back to normal flight mode.

Yeah, except that switch B is for rates/expo and switch D is for flaps..

Care to elaborate? You can assign those to whatever switch you want. I even say this in my video.

why 1 flap when you have a flap on both sides?

Sorry for the late reply. You would choose 2 Flap if each flap was plugged into a different port on the receiver. Example: Left Flap is plugged into AUX 1 and Right Flap is plugged into AUX2. In 90% of planes I fly (and others I know), the flaps are usually combined using a Y-Harness and are plugged into a single channel on the Receiver (usually AUX). So this is why you choose 1 Flap in the Spektrum menu.
