For those who watched that maiden, you know things did not go great. The plane was incredibly unstable and difficult to control. I barely got it home in one piece.
In this video I review the things I have done to improve my chances at a successful second flight. It also includes the 2nd and 3rd "follow up" flights on this airplane. Unfortunately, the wind keeps being persistent on the days I end up flying, so I'm not sure how much of the bad behavior is the plane versus the environment.
As always, I hope that this video and information was helpful. Thanks for watching.

One set of CG marks are for wings out and one set is for wings swept

Congratulation on the re-maiden. My earlier comments on your first flight that the C.G. marking "maybe wrong" has turn out to be correct. Wrong marking or even the absence of C.G. marking on M.I. C. foamy is not new. The other problem which I quickly resolve before gluing in the foamy parts, is to check adequate space for all airborne equipments . I would hollow out the foam further before glueing the various parts. Wish you more sucessful flight in future.

Kudos for sticking it out. I've already been put off on this one. Try lower the landing starting altitude a bit. Flaps might have been a bit much for that wind. Keep some power in at the end. Fly her to the ground. Don't let her get too slow or she will drop a wing.

Good review! It seems pretty clear that if you balances only at the wing CG, it seems to be tail heavy. That can explain several films that I have seen that the F14 flies like a dolphine. And if you also use flaps, and that seems to make the airplane pitch up a little (even if you set up everything right) it will be very hard to handle in the air. I don’t have this f14 but i could be my next on the list. So good to know!

Cg is 40mm behind where the wing leading edge meets the body. See manual. And i always check cg inverted gear up. Although sometimes gear should be out and then plane right side up. Pity they dont mention this. I am assembling mine as we speak and i will take note. Normally nose heavy will not cause flight issues, but tail heavy will cause plane to fly irratic❤

I’d recommend cutting your flaps to half of what they are now and add some down trim on the elevator. You will get this thing nailed down!

I think your 2nd approach with flaps was too steep? So the inertia increased the velocity and caused the flaps to generate quite a bit of lift ?

I have the 80mm twin , im really thinking on this one , i like it because of the size , but it also took me afew to fit myself skills on to the 80mm , but this one has a different kinda headache it seems to be . The wing load on this one maybe sets me to pullaway from deciding much on this because i don't want to find myself doing mods to this and it's pricey as it is already. That's what sucked me into this hobby as it is as the years went on .

I really like the 80 mm version, but I also prefer smaller aircraft and when the 64 mm version came out I swooped on it. But I am finding this one much more Twitchy and requires a much higher level of pilot competency to master compared to the larger one. Just keep that in mind when deciding your purchase.

You have two gyros in your F14. Which one are you more comfortable with? I'm going to bypass the E20 for the control servos on my 14 and fly the AR8360T receiver gyro.

I wish I could tell you, but I just dont have enough flights to make that determination, and until I get a day without turbulent wind to fly, it'll be hard for me to know. Hopefully in the coming weeks I will have the chance to make that decision.

Also nothing wrong with the gyro on it, have it both times on and off, you do got to keep speed up when landing also try the SAFE version on landing , will stop the tipstall if your to slow

I 3D printed new pilots for this using this STL file. www.thingiverse.com/thing:2970724 I modified it so that they had visors and obviously painted it myself. I then just carefully pulled up the plastic canopy from the fuselage, put the pilots in and then use a little bit of glue to resecure the canopy back onto the plane.

Hey ! I totally agree about that CG !! I'm going to use the marks on the fuselage. Did you see the assembly video from FREEWING ? Not motion .there isn't any talking but the put notes on the screen and say they recommend using the fuselage marks . I think everyone is putting the battery too far back

On RC groups, one of the freewing engineers actually responded to me in one of my videos sharing that free Wing assembly video you mentioned. It was only then that I realized there were actually CG marks on the fuselage.

I did the maiden of my friends, he was using a 6s 4000mah and had the lipo sitting with end lining up with the rear Hatch. Cg was perfect. The roll rate we had at 80% was way to much . We don't fly Spekjunk, we use Radiomaster tx16s with either Flysky rxs or ELRS. I would never trust Spekjunk in my expensive planes

Because I wanted an all-in-one gyro/Rx unit and the only other 10 channel option is the Spektrum AR10360T, which costs literally 3x as much. There are no other all-in-one units that are 10 channel on the market currently.
