Spearfishing Tilapia, Blue Lake Utah Feb. 2016
Winter spearfishing in a warm spring lake in Utah for invasive Tilapia, that have been illegally introduced. With lots of largemouth bass and bluegill to swim with it made for a great day of diving.

Wow, what a beautiful lake that is. I couldn't believe how many bass are in it and the size of them looked really nice. I bet the fish you pull out of that lake are about as tasty as it gets. I have had bass from crystal clear springs and then from dirty mud holes. By far, the cleaner water bass, tasted 100 times better. I would never turn down bass of any kind, but you guys have a very nice thing with that lake. Thanks for posting. Nice shooting also. Cheers

skyym3 the bass here are off limits to Spearfishing, but can be caught by traditional angling.
What are these tilapia coming in at (length and weight)? Yummy fish!! How deep are you diving? Good times and great vis! And what's that structure at 3:35 (I think)?
that's some pretty serious gear for tilapia. that first gun looked like yall were loading up for amberjack or wahoo:)

Cornelius Bartholemew looks big because of the wide angle lens but it's only a 90 cm.
Nice video!
Hey FWFS so i was looking at getting a wetsuit and fins from mako are they any good? Also how long is you line from your buoy to your gun

Mako makes good quality wetsuits. Everyone I know who has one has been happy with it. I like their fins as well, I've upgraded to carbon blades now but still use mako foot pockets. I use a 50ft floatline from my gun to my float
The water is super warm there right? I have a 5 mm wetsuit, do you think that would be warm enough in late march?

Yeah it’s fed by warm springs. 5mm is plenty. I usually dive it in Jan-feb in a 5 and the only cold part is getting in and out of the water
Cool vid. Never heard of going after tilapia in the winter in Utah. Someone needs to let a half dozen carp loose in that lake! 😜

+500stick carp would destroy that small lake. eat all the vegetation and turn it into a mud hole. before long there would be nothing but carp and dirty water. Carp are fun to shoot. but no good for a fishery or visibility

Spearfishing is the most sustainable way to fish. Choose your fish, kill them instantly with one shot if you have good aim.
