Captain's Log 2021/10/20: It has been approximately a year and a half since launch, though we are now in a state where inter-pod existence is possible, I am still largely within my own pod. Outside factors have damaged the mental half of the core, but re-watching this guide has set me on a path to recovery. Thank you, Admiral Grey, thank you.

Captain's log 2022/3/14: we are nearing the 2 year anniversary of this previously thought 2 week launch, and I don't think it will be the last. We have been allowed to do manned missions onto the planet via mini shuttles on the station, though not allowing to leave without safety equipment, preventing harm to others. Though my mental health remains absolute, people who deny these safety precautions are testing my patience towards others. There has even been a ongoing conflict between the Ukraine station and Russia station about how "Russia is rightfully taking back their ship", seeing how Russia station is going economy and socialy, it's pathetic really. This conflict is drawing out every western station bisness including fuel of our pods, causing inflation. I really wish our species couldn't screw ourselves over petty crap, though I do hope we pull through Admiral Grey, signing off...

But the leaders of the captains (aka us) now allow us to go back on earth on mini shuttles but I can't leave the shuttles. But people have now begun to return to earth better than before, but not me... I keep my family spaceship and my own spaceship running. I hope that someday me and my family (aka my crew) will join the ones who returned better than before - RECORDING STOPED -

And thank you too everyone who are still here, it may have been a struggle, but we can find a way out of this mess, God's speed. End Log.

Captain's log 20/04/2022: Due to a malfunction on my ship's navigation computer, I am currently orbiting a black hole. The gravitational pull is really strong, and my ship's engines can't sustain burns for long enough. The core has died out, but I'm finally able to prime it back. Even then, Addiction A*'s pull is too strong for my ship currently, so I'm slowly drifing away into the singularity. I don't know if I can resist for much longer, or if I'll be free from this gravity well at all. This communicator video really helped me, but I am currently uncapable of escaping this singularity. If I make it, I'll contact you again. Captain Darth out.

Captain's Log 2022/04/22: It's been a while, honestly. Things are starting to feel surreal..things like the Russia-Ukraine War, and other problematic situations. And though it may seem that we are stuck in this never-ending launch of our space shuttles, things will indeed get better. And though the previously mentioned war doesn't seem to have large plans of yielding, surely this cannot go on forever. Re-watching this guide has really given me, and the crewmates on the ship, a new source of hope through this, so if we get through this, no...when we get through this, we will finally be able to return to Earth better than before. Thank you, Admiral Grey, thank you. Caption HoOmanOnEarth signing off. -RECORDING ENDED-

@@0O0O0O0O0_ It's lightweight and cheap (many Unix implementations are free and open-source, after all). It's common to see it on a wide variety of machines, especially servers. I'm still a student myself so I can only provide a simple answer, but I think it boils down to ubiquity - "I use X because everyone else here does." If your employer (as a CS-related worker) uses Unix on its servers, why make things complicated for yourself by NOT using Unix? There's also the fact that most (if not all, but again, my experience is shit and miniscule compared to others') Unix implementations these days come with Git, and virtually every programming project uses Git or some other version control system. Windows has Git but as a third-party software; operating systems like Ubuntu have it preinstalled and ready to go on the command line. To anyone who knows better than me, please call me out on my bullshit; I'd like to learn as well.

Being positive and productive during a lockdown is extremely important because extended isolation, especially in an unchanging setting, often leads to depression, anxiety, and suicide. It is so hard to find a reason to keep going when you are repeatedly met by the same room(s), little social contact, little freedom to explore or see the outside world. It's even worse if you're one of the many people who has been put out of a job, or who is now trapped in a home with someone abusive, or if you already struggled with a mental illness. Good health, routines, personal time, and projects that give you purpose are all essentials to help combat a terrible situation like extended isolation due to a pandemic. You don't want to be a statistic

It is, because as much as people want to treat this situation as unique (and it is, but only in the specifics) this sort of isolation is not new to all of us. The four stations are 1. The Sleep Station: This is where you go to sleep do not distract yourself from sleeping by using technology instead of sleeping. Go to sleep at a set time for a set amount of hours. 2. The Creativity (School/Work Station): This is where you get things done! Focus on what you need to do, do not get distracted by mixing the relaxation station with your work station. No unrelated KZread videos when doing your work you need to do. 3. The Fitness Station: This is where you keep your physical self in shape by doing bodyweight exercises or hypertrophy training (working out and lifting weights to get those sweet sweet gains) if you have the equipment. 4. The Relaxation Station: This is where you keep your mental self in shape my taking your mind away from everything else and just focus on relaxing and doing things you like. Playing video games, eating, watching KZread videos, reading, and etc. Again set boundaries between each station and make sure not to cross them. Crossing stations (mixing stations together) is a slippery slope since it can destroy the effectiveness of each individual station! That was my summary of the video I hope you all enjoy! :D

He in part studied sociology and has said before on HI that he was "lazy" some years ago. his analytical and robotic way he goes about things help him stay on his chosen path in life. Some things he does are truly strange even though he says it's the ONLY right way (which makes him a little naive sometimes) Other times his way of thinking about productivity and the world around him, shows us a different perspective on things which can help improve our own situation. His whole podcast HI is so entertaining BECAUSE Brady and grey are so fundamentally different and they play of each other very well. My humble opinion as a European student

In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid. So it seems there are a lot of people here who are already in a dark place and are going "well I'm already depressed and apathetic I can't get motivated to exercise" and the "non-optional" part seems more like intimidation than encouragement. CGP Grey says, "PRIME with the physical". If he'll allow me to elaborate on that: ANYTHING BETTER THAN ZERO. What this means is, don't berate yourself because you can't go from an amorphous blob of CheezyChips to doing 3-hour HIT workouts. Mark off a place in your spaceship (or just designate a "Sacred Wristband of Exercise" if you live in a closet, there's no excuse) and start with. . . something. One push-up, maybe, or whatever you can manage. ONE. Of something you can do. That's it. That's your starting point. When the Physical gauge is at zero, 0.00001 is still better than zero. ANYTHING is better than zero. If the next day all you can still manage is one, that's fine. Do it again. Do exactly one push-up/sit-up/jumping jack/whatever. Next day, do it again. If you're feeling up for it, try two! Or stick to one if that's all you can manage. Anything is better than zero. If you betray yourself and forget, don't worry -- next day, do what you can, even if it's just one again. It's still better than zero. Breaking a poisonous cycle is infinitely harder than climbing a slope when you have momentum. So that first whatever is enormous. Just the very act of ritualizing exercise, no matter from where you start, is meaningful. It's the start that leads to progress. So spend THREE SECONDS to do that one thing, and then pat yourself on the back for having accomplished it. Why not? It's better than what you did yesterday! Anything better than zero.

@Renagadde IKR I do get it, but even that is better than nothing at all. At least you have the intention of doing it, even if you never actually get to it. It's a step toward fixing a problem. Now you know what to do, next step is getting yourself to actually do it, i.e. getting out of that procrastination cycle. Of course, if you can avoid the cycle by all means do avoid it. But sometimes you can't. That's why it exists in the first place. There's a lot friction involved before you get that momentum going.

  • @jadoei13

    @jadoei13

Add to that that not doing it for a day doesn't mean you failed at that goal you might have set. Instead of seeing it as a streak, see it as a percentage of times that you should've done it. That way you don't fail when you miss a day, because that can be discouraging. Once stopped because you failed, it is surprisingly easy to not try again. When using something along the lines of % of days that you wanted to do something, it dropped a bit, but you can make it go up again, you haven't failed at your goal and there is an easy way to make it go up again.

The visualization is godlike. Because spinning the ship by keeping the core running will generate artificial gravity. So you will end up in disorder if your physical and mental health is bad, because there will will no gravity. So the disorder is pictured by the abscense of Gravity which does make a lot of sense in my opinion. Also if there is no gravity then it will be harder to get the core running again, which also translates to real life.

Lone Starr same here but i think getting in the mindset of this structure in your own home also can be achieved through time management. so instead of “only sleeping in this space” try “only sleeping at that time” and that goes for every other aspect mentioned in this video. for example i started keeping a sort of daily diary/planner in which i first write what i WANT to do that day and then what i actually did which helps keeping track of progress and maybe discovering habits.

I have a single computer desk with monitors where I eat, work, play. The only thing I don't do here is sleep, my sleep station is sanctified. But this is how it was before the pandemic...only now realizing that might be part of my issues.

SPACESHIP YOU General Rules 1. Set boundaries-- allocated areas for specific tasks (eg. bed for sleeping only) 2. Respect the boundaries-- do only what task the area is meant for. (eg. Relaxing only on the couch) 3. Don't stop, just keep going -- even if there are lapses in discipline. After all, self-improvement is a long journey. You Comprised of Mental and Physical which work in tandem to keep you functioning Both influence each other, if physical increases, mental will as well but the converse is also true Boundaries (CaESaR if you will, CESR) 1. Exercise - Great place to get momentum and power up the physical aspect 2. Sleep - Have a regular routine. Wake and sleep at similar times. When this is out of whack, time you'll lose track! 3. Relaxation - Got to make sure it doesn't creep into the other domains. Do what you enjoy only at the designated location 4. Creation -Could be anything really, coding, cooking, learning. Just keep yourself occupied with something you find meaningful.

One trick that really needs to be mentioned: if there is some sort of breakdown with the different zones like no longer being creative in the creative zone, then change the room layout to start over. Before the pandemic, I noticed I wasn't very attentive at the desk I use to do school work on. So I moved the location of that desk and it made getting into the research mindset a lot easier.

I found this, as well. My work gave us computers so we could work remotely. Initially I was using a not-great table for the keyboard & monitor. Then I was given a nice computer desk & chair by my parents, and my draw to the work increased BIG TIME. Now I look forward to sitting down to work, and an actual computer desk creates grounded structure (for me) for doing computer-based production.

I got through the entire video completely fine. Not remotely emotional. Then Grey says "complete the mission. Come back better than before. See you on Earth, Captain" and I spontaneously start crying. What the heck is wrong with me? 😅
