The U.S. Navy is the largest Navy in the world and the second largest Navy is the U.S. Navy 's Museum Pieces ! Yea we have more retired vessels setting around for us to visit than the other countries have in operation ! Wouldn't it be nice to see an Iowa Class Battleship with upgrades cruising the oceans ?

the shapes actually remind me of the ironclad ships from the mid 1800s. An ironclad is a steam-propelled warship protected by iron or steel armor plates, constructed from 1859 to the early 1890s.

It’s SO insane that the ship is criticized by everyone and being retired 30 YEARS early because everyone says it’s small amount of weapon options isn’t sufficient and that’s the the most angering thing to hear from the Navy and Congress becasue the ENTIRE strategy of these much smaller Litoral stealth ships was that they had to have these new advanced gas /electric engines thst produce massive amount of power for all the newest and future weapons for ships , the concept that made these ships deadly in ANY mission is because they are smaller . They had interchangeable weapon pods from cruise missiles , to laser weapons to SEAWIZ , and more , on their way to a mission they crew moves the current pod below to its storage and moves a new capability in place in minutes . I believe there were 7 different pods making these small fast stealth ships able to perform ANYkind of mission needed by switching mission pods . The Navy loved the idea and they had the power generators capable of powering multiple . After just a year , they cancelled half the new capabilites comming now only having 3 pods , then months later SCRAPPED the entire weapon mission pod production and program!!!! The old school cannon on the front was an interchangeable pod . They jsut removed the other systems and canceled it all so the ability to perform ANY mission went away and it only has that basic capability making it underpowered firepower wise,… so the Navy and Congrss and KZread keyboard experts say not enough weapons when that’s becasue it had 7 options and the navy cancelled them!??? They cancel the Mission pods , then complain they don’t have the firepower and complain they are too specialized only having one weapon pod , so they begin retireinf them early . The mission pods were an amazing idea giving them every weapon capability of all our navel ships and you can change it easilly to any number of mission needs , but to cancel this key capability took away 90% of its optional missions . They damned it after building 10 new ships . Such a crooked bunch of greedy con men.

The strange shapes will be common for the future of war ships. They are designed to deflect radar into space that cannot be detected, giving them greater stealth capabilities like aircraft.

The aluminum trihull ship has been experiencing cracks at the connection point between the hulls The single hull has had issues with its transmission system. But honestly, both of these issues could be overcome. South Korea really wants to buy these ships if we retire them early.

Catamaran and trimarans have shallow drafts and can be more stable in rough seas, can be faster and have larger decks. They aren't as sexy as traditional ships/boats but still have their pros. Aluminum is used to counter magnetic mines and be lighter for speed. Obviously, it isn't as strong as steel, but the boat is used differently than other ships.

they are Fast attack platform/ships. the engine tho has had problems. but it is fast. it can get to the location in a hurry. the USA navy announced in 2023 that is might/will make Frigate small and fast ships. Since the navy has few of them and loves destroyers.

The reason it’s controversial is the extremely high cost. In fact the Zumwalt class ships were cancelled.

There was and still is a problem with the aluminum hull reacting to the saltwater electronics and causing serious problems with it basically dissolving. Most boats have sacrificial anodes that are designed to dissolve the anodes rather than the ships hull and are easily replaceable. Both of my boats had them mounted on the lower unit of the engine.

I don't like the look of it either. I thought it was a Chinese ship at first. It has that weird, ultra-featureless look of a model toy ship. Littoral means "pertaining to the shoreline" so it would include water depths that are shallower.

It's all hearsay but I'm hearing that the US is thinking about bringing back one of its old battleships with the big 16 inch guns so I feel bad for anybody on coastal areas that are causing problems for people they going to get hit hard.

Jon- just a suggestion. Instead of berating a vessel or class of vessel because of its looks, try understanding the function of each. When you comprehend what each vessel's intended mission is they become better looking. EXAMPLE: Aircraft carriers are ugly behemoths, but when you consider their lethality and purpose they become beautiful. Also the A-10 It isn't called the wart-hog for nothing. What an awesome punch from what is considered by many to be a hideous aircraft.

They cant hit hard, but cant take a hit and the hulls crap under stress. Plus extremely expensive
