I'm part of the .01% who knows the difference between a bazooka and a recoiless rifle. He is right most people don't need to know the difference - it's basically that the recoilless rifle has a casing that is perforated and uses standard propellant whereas a bazooka uses a rocket motor. Both mitigate their recoil through a flow through system where the propellant is vented.

So true, My MOS was 0351 in the Marines. I was a 106RR a/gunner and gunner back in 1972. I have fired both, the 3.5 in M20A1B1 Bazooka and M40 recoilless rifle ( the 106rr). I have seen a few of them at Camp Lejeune, NC. If anybody lives near Quantico, Va. it can be seen at National Museum of the Marine Corps. Semper Fi to my Brothers and Sisters.

My dad saw one of these things in action during 'Nam his group was working in a village doing something about a water tower (most likely some sketchy CIA shit) when the treeline exploded with gunfire. they called for help and up rolled a pair of Ontos. turned the tree line into toothpicks with the beehive, the second one rocked their world with the HE shells. No one fucked with them for the rest of the week.

Great vid Jono, but make sure you watch to the end to catch when he has a 'post credits scene' for you. 😀 The Ontos was pure terror, it had to have been! Especially the beehive rounds. 10,000 nails flying at you from one shot? Dear God that's horrific and I don't even want to imagine what it would have been like to search through the killzones after those things had gone off. Gruesome to the extreme...

My Dad had a picture of him when he was a Marine in the First Anti-Tank Company at Camp Pendleton on an M-50 Ontos back in the late 50s.

Great video. “The Thing” was an early Autobot. When engaged in combat it transformed from a goofy, awkward looking “Thing”, into badass BAZOOKA TANK destroy your world “Thing”. Gotta love that. Looking forward to the next video. 🤠👍

I grew up on a farm in Kansas. And yeah, we've often fabricated stuff that works better than the original, because it was cheaper and easier to do so. Spend a bunch of money on a fancy corral? No. Go and pick up some scrap metal pipe and weld that together ourselves. One of the parts on the disc broke, which had been flimsy metal. We replaced that with sturdy metal. We'll reinforce and improve anything that breaks or is poorly made, because that's a better option than just buying replacements. And I'm fairly sure the armed forces only wanted 1 recoilless rifle, but the farmers were like "what are you, a bunch of wusses? Let's stick 6 on it."

What should scare everyone is that we retired "the thing" because we made bigger, badder things.

WOWZER! That “thing”was something else! I think with all our technology today that they oughta build some more of those and put them into battle. Maybe sell some off to some of our buddies such as Britain. But I think that’s as far as I would let them go. Thank you for posting this on your channel. I found it very interesting. You and your family tale care of yourselfs and we’ll see you next time.❤️🙏🏼🌻❤️🙏🏼🌻❤️🙏🏼🌻

Sort of like a tank where the gun loader position was outside the turret. Hope they had a replacement assistant loader inside...sounds pretty dangerous!

Why do vloggers call those 106 mm cannons, rifled, recoiless because oart of the propellant is blown to the rear. THEY ARE NOT BAZOOKAS.
