@@UltraChaseds1 is always the best because you will see the combat become better and better, instead of Goin from 3 to 1 and see it become clunkier, not because ds1 was done poorly, but because from 2011 to 2016, Fromsoftwers developers bacame way better at their job and the ps4 gave them more freedom compared to the ps3 As someone who started from ds3 I suggest you to start from ds1, seriously, don't do my same error, it's painful to go from a fluid gameplay to an arcaidish version of itself, and also loosing mechanics that made the combat even funnier, like weapon arts, which go from stronger swings of a sword to literal rivers of fire, cones of ice and blades of light And then there's elden ring which improves it even more letting you switch the weapon art (as long as the weapon is not unique), so you can have a dagger that can combust with a cursed flame that will make your enemies bleed And most importantly you can change the elemental dmg of weapon arts, you can literally have a wooden mace that summons an ice storm around you, but the ice deals lightning dmg, or a flaming sword that inflicts frostbites. Which can be funny in PvP, and let's you keep your build without suffering eternal torture because you as a mage are fighting against an enemy with really high magic resistance, just switch element (of course you must "unlock" this), you will have a lower dps because of a problem related with the scaling, but the vulnerability of the boss will make up for it

The story on each game makes a lot of sense by themselves. Yes, DS1 and 3 have more or less the same plot, but they're not the same story. Also DS2 should be skipped on the order. The story has nothing related to the main line and the gameplay is horrible in general. While I still think that it was a good game, it might make new players want to stop playing souls games just because it is quite unfair as a game (especially the sotfs version). I would say play either DS1/DS3 as your first, then the other one you didn't play and then move on to Elden Ring and Bloodborne. Finally, if you ended up enjoying all of them, you can move on to Sekiro and DS2

Maybe it's just me, but some moments in DS3 lose some impact without having at least some knowledge of DS1 and 2. Walking into Firelink Shrine and seeing how different it became, but then seeing a familiar friend in Andre. Meeting Siegward, this game's onion knight fills you with the nostalgia of Siegmeyer. Finding Sun Bros covenant and armor. Finding Lucatiel's mask (I will always remember your name, dear friend.) Stepping into Anor Londo again, then shedding a tear over the corpse of the giant smith who forged me my favorite boss weapons. Fighting Soul of Cinder and the pling pling plong hits. Patches, the rat bastard, who followed us through it all to stand beside us at the end of the world, unbroken. (Albeit 3 did a lot to humanize him and show us a bit of who he was. Lapp was a good guy) I'm missing a lot and don't mean to ramble, but these games mean a lot to me. I think you misunderstood their argument. A common criticism for DS1 and DS2 are that the bosses and enemies are incredibly unresponsive and have janky AI, which is definitely much more prominent in DS2 but still present in DS1. With their inexperience in development at the time or time restraints by Bandai, their animations aren't properly telegraphed and are much harder to reaction roll compared to ER and DS3 which have movesets that are easier to adapt to and reaction roll. You really can't deny the jankiness of DS1's bosses and lack of telegraphing as well as lack of well-made animations. I think it's unfair to compare DS1 and DS2 with the more modernized and refined games that are DS3, Bloodborne and Elden Ring, I hear many people say that then contradict themselves the next second. If we were to compare them and ignore their age, it's no doubt that ER and BB are superior, atleast when it comes to gameplay, which I think is a more important and impacting aspect that determines a game's quality

In my personal experience of over 2000 hours in the game, the times where I thought an attack was poorly choreographed was very much in the minority(excluding outliers such as the hydra fights). In comparison, there are fights in DS3, such as Pontiff Sulyvahn, where there are attack animations that require you to have a reaction time faster than is biologically possible for our brains to process. Amir did a great video on it you should check it out.

@@SmellenBellen Besides Mario Odyssey, Zelda BOTW, and animal crossing. Nintendo games have nothing on modern games, some are even objectivity bad, so why do people still play them? Well, adults that grew up playing Nintendo have such fond memories that their minds are structured to get joy out of them. For example I grew up playing ps3, and I love playing linear games, whereas some people would call being guided where to go as boring. Now of course, I don't only play linear games, I just get more joy out of ps3 styled games than other people who would hate it because they didn't grow up playing them as a kid too. Now back to dark souls 1, most likely but not always, if you played that game as a kid or teen, you will probably say it's better than DS3. But that can't be further than the truth. DS3 which is objectivity a better game in every single way because it's more modern and from software built their knowledge up, in a way it fixed almost but not every problem Dark Souls 1 had. People only swear that it's better because it's what they have fond memories of. To them calling DS3 better than DS1 is like telling them their childhood joy was invalid.

Exactly, he probably forgot about that. But even then, we can't outright say that they are not connected to each other, because they might(which i believe is more than likely) connected to each game. In the start of the dark Souls, there was nothing but a mist shrouded everywhere, no black and white, no light and dark, no life and death, and only everlasting dragons were present in mysterious grey mist. One of the endings of the Demon Souls(which i believe to be the canon one) ends with Slayer of the demons absorbing ancient one's power and leaving the world in a grey mist. Or how Dark Souls 3 indicates how Yharnam is created by the Blood of the Dark Soul in the DLC (I mean, at least i think that's what it's about.). And this is the neat part about Soulsborne games, you can implement, describe, comment, and theorize about it's story in most ways, and you wouldn't be entirely wrong about it(unless for some certain things like how people thought Solarie could be the Nameless son of the Gwyn in the first Dark Souls game, only to find out that Nameless King is a entirely another person by the time Dark Souls 3 came out.).

Dark Souls 3 is about putting an end to the never ending cycle of the First Flame from the first game(and yes, there're four different endings, but the one where you watch the First Flame to extinguish slowly in the hands of the fire keeper has to be the canon one, because for a game that is meant to end Dark Souls series, it's the most fitting one for to make a grand finale.).

As someone who has been through all the DS eras and Bloodborne/Sekiro, I think it’s right to start with DS1. I think DeS is a game you can appreciate after you’ve beat DS3, in that you’re good enough to visit the classic. DeS is hard, but it also isn’t as straightforward or as easy to upgrade or understand. DS1/DS2, especially DS2, upgrading is easy. I might get some flack for that, lol. I had a friend start at DS3 and he hated 1/2. Never tried DeS because of it. Elden Ring is the best of them all; there is contention for Elden Ring to be one of the greatest games ever (I’m right there with them, it is top 3 for me). Bloodborne on release was my favorite PS4 game, probably still is next to God of War. Sekiro is also fantastic, don’t need to take my word for it, lol. If you’re into Elden Ring, start with the classics and build an appreciation going forward. I remember DS1 Remastered finally making jumping easy! I also remember SotfS destroying DS2. It takes time to appreciate these games. I started playing when i was literally 10 years old. It’s my favorite franchise and my favorite developer because of how we’ve grown together. Respect the oldies! Much love to whomever tries.

Ds2 was my first from soft game. I had never heard of dark souls at that point some how and saw it on sale at GameStop for like 15 bucks so I picked it up. It kicked my butt for hours I never truly got good that playthrough but after that one I went to ds3 and then the rest of them. Since then I've played through all the games a minimum of 3 times, ds3 I've played 10 times, and I own 5 different copies of ds3 as I started collecting various editions.

Ive just played through the Dark Souls series for the first time and definitely recommend starting in 1. To me, they progress in difficulty and the story is just fantastic. I love seeing the boss designs evolve or return with new abilities. I love the returning characters like Patches or Seigward... And i was able to correct my mistake from the first game and become the Lord of Hollows. Incredible game and experience.

I’ll always have a soft spot for Dark Souls 1. I’ve platinnumed all of them, but I don’t remember the last time I was so hooked and immersed in a video game as I was in my 1st playthrough of DS1. Everything was just so incredible and unlike anything I had ever played before. There’s just a certain magic about it that no other souls game has. The one that gets very close for me is Sekiro.

Ok ok hear me out hear me out; if you mainly played shooters before and really want to get into soulslike, oh boy do I have a recommendation for you. It’s more a soulslike-like game but no other shooter has more similarities with a souls like than this: The Remnant 1&2. It’s a shooter with almost soulslike mechanics. Especially 2 has great potential to get you into this kind of games because not only can you do both, melee and shooting but also it’s a pretty hard game that requires really good dodging. Also you can start at easy and continue until nightmare. If you manage to finish that game in Nightmare you can start with fromsoftware games and at least you won’t feel completely overwhelmed by the difficulty. Also remnant is such a great and underrated game I really can recommend it!

Reasons why to start with dark souls one: It is a genre defining gem that will introduce players in a way that's not too overwhelming, and if you play this game after many if the other titles the game may feel slow and slightly janky. Reasons why to start with another From Software title is because Dark Souls 1 may make players that would've otherwise really enjoyed the other From Software quit the game as the game has extremely punishing mechanics such as curse, and the game is also starting to get slightly outdated as it is their second oldest title. Also i'm pretty sure a lot of people gave up on the capra demon. Personally i would probably recommend starting with Dark Souls 1, and then still give one of the newer titles a try even if the player dislikes Dark Souls 1 for the gameplay (or old graphics if you're not a fan of that). That way you will find out if you like the games and you will have a good experience (most likely) and get different tastes of what From Software has to offer. If you don't want to pay for two games, i would also recommend probably starting with Dark Souls 3. Note: Also probably don't be me and start with Sekiro
