  I was reading at a college level all the way back in the 3rd grade. That doesn't mean I want to spend my time and brain power reading when I'm trying to watch a show. I have plenty of books, and when I want to read, I'll read them. A big part of TV and movies is that I can relax and not have to think about it too much.

  Games shouldn't take this long nowadays, the claim that games take longer to make with current technology is just false, a lot of the current technology makes game development quicker and easier than it used to be, the thing that slows down game development is largely bureaucracy, the modeling is second place, but like, a lot of that modeling can actually be sped up a lot compared to how long it takes usually now in the big studios, using some of that current technology, but it would require adjusting their production cycle quite a bit, which would result in an initial stall, and would look worse on paper to the investors, because it's a direct expense, but it would save them money in the end, and would mean the game can come out basically whenever they want it to, so they can release a more finished product, and earn more money from more satisfied customers
