The Canon events are Cervantes killing Li Long, Taki killing Cervantes, then Siegfried encounters Cervantes' body which becomes Inferno. Siegfriend defeats Inferno but gets possesed by Soul Blade and turns into Nightmare.

Most people don't realize that historically this is one of the first video games that had machinema endings. Pretty much every game before this had a 2d animated ending or a full motion video ending.

I've never forgotten that Siegfried ending, even though I've not played any Soul Blade games since. It blew my tiny 9 year old mind

MASTERPIECE. The intro, the ending, the amount of game modes. This is the best fighting game i've ever played till 1997. The Music, the graphics and the story. This is a flaship game for the PLAYSTATION. Truly is going to my favourite list!

​@@lcfreezer Although I wish Siegfried spoke more lines of dialogue in his endings I admit I felt joy hearing him speak in his win poses. Siegfried victory speeches: "I never had such an easy victory." "I will not rest until I wreak vengeance for my father." "I'm unstoppable!" Siegfried has always been one of my most favorites in that Namco fighting game.

Hwang's bad ending still gives me PTSD

Its been like 30 YEARS! I knew you could make Voldou keep rubbing the blade, but i had NO IDEA it would explode until TODAY!!! Kid me would have been so shocked!

@@thekingsthroneroompodcast7564Complete Siegfried's Edge Master Mode. The unlock isn't exactly Nightmare but it's Siegfried in the 'Nightmare' costume. But he's basically just a re-skin of Siegfried and doesn't really do anything different than normal. Regular Siegfried with Souledge is pretty much one of the most broken characters in Soul Blade.

During the Tenagashima clip in Mitsurugi's endings marked the first time someone freely controls their character in their character's ending cutscene in a Namco fighting game.

This is the game that made me buy a PS1, so many decades ago.

As someone whose first game was SoulCalibur IV, it’s always neat going back to this one and seeing how different some of the characters were. Siegfried is my favorite character, so seeing him here as this young arrogant kid who’s one of the villains in the game was super interesting considering what he becomes in later games. It’s really cool. Also for 1996 this game still looks incredible. I know it didn’t run as well as other 3D fighters of the era but considering they weren’t that much less stiff it was kinda hard to notice it was worse there honestly. Lot of fun, even 27 years later.

in the mood to play now. Soul Blade was one of my favorite PS1 games.

Namco need to remake soul blade for the new gen consoles. This was the first game I got for my PlayStation one when I was six years old and I’ve never forgotten it. The iconic intro song, edge master mode, each character having two different endings. Urgh so good 😭

4:10 - very interesting ending. Only one time when Cervantes showed remorse and humanity making him here more like tragic anti-hero than villian.

@@zombieeightpack1381 I loved Calibur 1 nearly as much as Blade/Edge, but after that the series went downhill for me. Plot exaggerated into trashy fantasy beyond recognition, gameplay lost its fluidity.

So if anyone wants an in depth explanation of Siegfried first ending (22:39), which is canon, here it is. When Sophitia, and Taki fatally defeated Cervantes (with one of his swords destroyed in the battle), Siegfried happened to arrive on the scene. Lying next beside the dead pirate was the powerful sword, Soul Edge, the same sword he was searching for. As Siegfried attempted to grab Soul Edge, the spirit of the demonic sword, known in-game as Soul Edge, or in later games, Inferno, attacked him! With only half of it’s power left, the spirit was weaker, and Siegfried would end up being victorious in this fight. Seeing how unstable, and troubled Siegfried was, the spirit of Soul Edge decided he was a wonderful host to help it’s own wicked goals. It spoke to Siegfried, and made a “deal”; it sinisterly told Siegfried if he collected souls, and helped restore it’s own power, then it would resurrect his father. Siegfried agreed, and as Siegfried finally got the chance to wield Soul Edge for himself, it clamped onto his hand, possessed him, and released the Evil Seed (that explosion and beam in the sky. It was caused by Inferno’s own unbalanced rage after the other half of Soul Edge was destroyed and Cervantes was killed) The Evil Seed would cause destruction, chaos, and devastation around the world unlike anything before it! For the next couple in-game years, Soul Edge used Siegfried (now under the persona, “Nightmare”) as a puppet to harvest souls and complete it’s other sinister objectives. With Siegfried’s incredible talent in swordsmanship, and the help of several followers, Soul Edge was slowly becoming more, and more powerful, again!

It had to pass 25 years to see that every character has 2 endings!

Soul Edge's ending, i.e. the last one in this compilation, is the only ending without two scenarios. I tried so hard smashing all buttons back in the days until I finally gave up. But it still bothers me up to this day, haha!

I mean, what would his/it's alternative ending be? Could've done a reign of terror type ending I guess. The one we got was a bit anticlimactic but a Souledge vs Souledge is an unrealistic scenario.

Ironic thing about Mitsurugi's first ending, in SoulCalibur II, at the intro, he was killing riflemen and bowmen without Soul Edge. It's like Namco just wanted to either use "knife to a gunfight" or reference Indiana Jones...

Soul blade/ Soul Calibur has always gotten shafted when it came to character endings. Whether it’s in game graphic cut scenes, still text and illustrations or even excluding character endings all together. I wanted to see more HD cinematic endings for each character not just the intro

Everybody got good and bad endings. Siegried gets tragic and sad. Sophitia, good and ..happy ending

what's the difference in playing time to show these "good" endings of the characters? eu zero and only shows the endings where some of them are harmed, for example Siegfried turning into a nightmare and li long dead

Se você quer saber como fazer o final "bom" ou diferente de cada personagem, cada um tem uma maneira específica, com o Voldo se não me engano você fica rodando o direcional quando ele está com a espada na mão, com o Mitsurugi você tem que controlar ele em primeira pessoa quando o Teppou Hei atira, e por aí vai, cada personagem é de um jeito diferente

There's no playing time, it's actually certain inputs during the ending that you have to do in order to do them.. last I remember, there is a video on KZread that should have the correct inputs.. also, you can check gamefaqs as well..

Uhm... Cervantes was corrupted since he started to be a pirate in young age and taking Soul Edge has simply created a simbiosys between him and Inferno. Cervantes was evil from scratch, he never regretted his action even years after his freedom from the sword. Kain was never been corrupted by Soul Reaver, which was an instrument to him and not his master. He was guided only by vengeance and he realized what was his rule in the world. The guardian of Balance. Not evil neither good.

She doesn't have a bad ending. It's like, a good ending and a good ending only with fan service. And you can get that version of her in her fan service ending by completely clearing Edge Master Mode. Which is a very tall order.

Most simply require pressing the right button at the right time, or as many of us used to do, mash all buttons until the alternate ending is unlocked. There are exceptions though. For Mitsurugi, press left or right to dodge, up to move towards Tanegashima and finally the attack button when you are close enough. Voldo, if I recall you have to press up and down in quick succession until the weapon explodes.

Heishiroe Mitsurugi can have his Voice in Japanese by this Guy who doesn't onwards in later Games so that Hwang Sung Kyung keeping Wataru Takagi with this Accent Voice from The Samurai in The 3rd Soul Calibur Game while Li Long having Jin Yamanoi in Japanese for them respectively

Its amazing how much of a graphical leap there was between soul blade and soul calibur. Sc1 still looks great if you use an emulator and enhance it. Sc2 on the gamecube damn near looks like it came out a few yrs ago. Soul blade, however... looks pretty bad on all platforms.

The ps1vs ps2/gc is an incredibly massive jump. A lot of the techniques for 3d games were figured out slowly on ps1 and the limited polygons meant models were forced into extremely blocky builds. Tbh, the best graphically looking ps1 games are probably ff8, ff9, and Legend of Dragoon as they really took advantage of every bit of oomph the ps1 had to offer. But they couldn't quite kill all the limited angles that came with the blocky graphics of ps1. For context ps1 had a massive 2 mbs of ram and 1 mb ram for video. Ps2? 32 mb/4 mb ram/ram vid. Soo yeah ps2 was roughly 16x more powerful in just one category. 32 mb isn't a lot nowadays but it was enough to make human shapes lose the blockiness of the ps1. Imo soul edge doesn't look bad. It just is working in the limitations of the hardware.
