Break Free. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. -Romans 12:2 When the Bible speaks of the world, it’s speaking of a culture that is largely hostile to God. That culture is on television, in the music you listen to, and in movie theaters. It’s a culture that basically says, “Do what you want to do. Please yourself. Do whatever it takes. The ends justify the means.” But the Bible tells us, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think” (Romans 12:2). Another version puts it this way: “Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould.” All too often believers allow the world to influence them more than they’re influencing the world. Secular thinking creeps into the church, and as a result, we disregard what the Bible teaches and live the way this culture tells us to live. However, we won’t find the happiness that we’re looking for. Instead, we’ll find emptiness, misery, and dissatisfaction because we’re out of God’s will. Someone once asked a concert violist how she became so skilled. She gave a two-word answer: “planned neglect.” In other words, she neglected everything that wasn’t related to her goal, which was to be a master violinist. If we want to be followers of Jesus, there is an element of planned neglect as well. It means staying away from the things that pull us away and drag us down and embracing the things that build us up and strengthen us in the commitment we’ve made. We present ourselves to God, but at the same time, we don’t conform to this world. Romans 12:2 goes on to say, “Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” God’s will is good. Some people envision God as the ultimate killjoy. When things are going well in their lives, they think God wants to crash the party and make their lives miserable. Yet how far from the truth that is. God’s plans for us are good. The Bible teaches that God is good. It also tells us in Psalm 84:11, “For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right” If the Bible tells us to stay away from a certain thing, it is for our own good. God is not trying to make our lives miserable. He wants us to reach our potential and live in the perfect plan that He has for us. His plans and purposes for us are good. Reject conformity to this world’s system and its self-indulgent ways, and instead be conformed to the image of Jesus. As you do that, you will begin to discover His plan for you. Don’t be afraid to surrender to Him. Don’t let this world squeeze you into its mold. Live the way that God wants you to live.

11:42 Yoshimitsu is a title passed down from wacky samurai to wacky samurai over generations. His first appearance in a game was in Tekken 1, so he’s technically a guest character from Tekken, but he’s a staple in both series. Soul Calibur explores the lives of the first two Yoshimitsus, while the one in Tekken is many, many generations down the line.

to add to this, Yoshimitsu's clan is mentioned across both series when they clash in Project X Zone 2 in late 2015. A massive crossover tactical rpg game for the 3DS with character parties of 3 from multiple game franchises merging their current timelines in a single game so at that time it would be SC5 and T6/TT2. A solo unit and a pair unit. Natsu is the sole representative of Soul Calibur that can be paired with the duo unit, Kazuya and Jin from Tekken. Their post battle dialogue has Jin remarking her similarity to other ninjas he knows including Yoshimitsu which astonishes her to see his clan still exists in the far future.

SoulCalibur is such a special fighting game. Its a shame SC6's lifespan was short due to poor netcode and general lack of attention by the devs. I hope this doesn't discourage Bamco from making SC7 because 3D fighting games are sparse enough in today's landscape

  • @_Jay_Maker_

    @_Jay_Maker_

For VI, the netcode was surprisingly fine, especially compared to previous iterations like IV and V. It was the lobbies and general lobby design that were legitimately terrible. Also, COVID. Namco has never pushed Soul Calibur as hard as Tekken into the mainstream, which is a huge shame, because it used to be on equal footing back in the arcade days. With the advent of more single-player focused content and less of a leverage on the competitive scene, Soul Calibur has always felt like the black sheep at Namco after SCII. They like it enough to fund it, but not enough to maintain its public image competitively. Here's hoping we get an SCVII, because God knows the soul still burns.

Since Tekken is set in modern times while Soulcalibur takes place in a medieval fantasy setting, the first Soulcalibur Yoshimitsu was originally considered to be an ancestor to Tekken's Yoshimitsu; however, the introduction of Yoshimitsu II revealed that Yoshimitsus are willingly killed and replaced by a younger protégé as part of a secret ritual, in order to make "Yoshimitsu" appear immortal to outsiders. Therefore, the Tekken version of the character is implied to have inherited the mantle in a similar way

The main story of SoulCalibur VI isn't focused on Kilik: It's focused on Soul Calibur and Soul Edge, and it's a retelling of the canon story of SoulCalibur. Instead of making a new story where everything is different, they kept it the same for the most part, with changes that aren't that big. The Aval organization exists, Groh helps Kilik, Azwel is trying to create a new Evil Seed, the future Cassandra that got lost in Astral Chaos arrives in the past and fights her past self. Those kind of changes. But the events of SC1 made canon by SCII stay the same: Kilik meets Xianghua and Maxi, they go fight Nightmare at Ostrheinsburg castle, Maxi stays behind to fight Astaroth and avenge his crew, Kilik beats Nightmate, Xianghua's sword turns out to be Soul Calibur, Xianghua beats Inferno, Kilik's Dvapara-Yuga is broken. You can't tell what happens to Soul Calibur and Soul Edge between Cervantes' defeat (Soul Edge/Soul Blade) and Raphael showing up to fight Nightmare (SoulCalibur II) without focusing on that.

Been a huge Soulcalibur fan for almost 20 years, first with SC2, and I own and have extensively played every mainline game in the series. SC3 has always been my absolute favorite; I'm largely an RPG player, and customizing characters (both original creations and recreating things like your favorite FF characters) has always had huge appeal to me. While later games, 5 and 6 especially, would vastly improve the overall quality of the custom characters and the options, SC3 has a special place for being the first and having special quirks and attachments; the alignment determining voices in SC3 was actually pretty huge. There were only 4 voices per gender for custom characters, one of which was an over-the-top old person, but the four sets of lines for each voice, Light-Hot, Light-Cold, Dark-Hot, and Dark-Cold, as I referred to them, made each voice sound distinctly unique and gave you 12-16 (depending on how much you could get into the over-the-top old voices) entirely different voices to help customize each character. Furthermore, SC3 had Chronicles of the Sword, the best SC game mode ever made, something I have literally spent thousands of hours playing, with the ability to make entirely new sets of custom parties with such a wide variety of weapons and skill sets; a game mode I love so much I became the world's only known speedrunner of that specific game mode. Four and 5 both disappointed for all the reasons Niosai mentioned here, with equipment controlling stats in 4 and 5 just not having any interesting content to use all those custom characters of, and the fact that with a new roster with new characters the new Eastern Trio (Quartet, actually, in this case) of Xiba, Leixia, Natsu (and old man helper Maxi) did pretty much nothing in the only story mode the game had meant there was no way for the community to become attached to these new characters. And after years of silence from the series, we finally got the new SC we all needed and wanted with the series-rebooting SC6, which was nearly perfection--the only reason I still rate 3 higher is because I am just that obsessed with CotS. Libra of Souls is an okay replacement, but still doesn't have the same feeling. But the characters, customization, stories, and everything else was the highest quality, and I had no issues buying those season passes to get the whole swelling roster. The only drawback seems to be that, while SC6 sold well, it apparently has not sold well enough to convince Namco to continue this awesome rebooted timeline and enhanced story, and 5 years later there's still not the hint of a seventh game coming. Naturally, a 7th continuing the series is at the top of any SC fan's wishlist, but I would also be satisfied if they'd give SC3 an HD remaster on modern systems similar to what SC1 and 2 received years earlier; not only because it's my favorite, but also because it's criminally unknown outside of the PS2-playing crowd of the day or real diehard SC fans. The fact that it was released only for PS2 while 2, 4, 5, and 6 were all released for multiple consoles means that any SC fans who never owned a PS console would never get it, and even among those who did, thousands accidentally unlocked a save-data eating bug that ruined their chance to really enjoy the game. It deserves a remaster to bring it back out for more to enjoy and rediscover today. My final genie wish for the SC series would be a standalone expansion of the Chronicles of the Sword mode, a game dedicated just to this gameplay style AND its world and lore, introducing fully fleshed-out and balanced versions of weapon styles totally different from the main SC cast with special focus on the inherently unique SC3 custom character styles (Tambourines, Grieve Edge, Wave Swords, we're looking at you). A more in-depth battle map and strategic battle system in the world of the nations of Grandall, Dalkia and Halteese with enhanced cutscenes and new modern voice acting and graphics, a fresh take on SC combat with different moves sets, and a more detailed look at this unique world they invented just for this game mode--that is my ultimate dream game.

@@Amotivatedindividual I'm always down for as many characters as possible, even if many have to be added as DLC/Season Pass additions later--I'm not a big fan of Yun-Seong, for instance, but I was still bummed we never got him in SC6. More weapons would always be fun (SC2 was the big leader there, so many weapons!), and I've always been a fan of special effects on weapons--while I think I know the logic behind it, I was a little sad SC6 only had (random) effects on weapons for Libra of Souls and didn't have any special effects for use in story or arcade modes. I wouldn't mind them keeping 6's model for main story mode, with a SC5-light main story but then individual stories for every character so each has a presence and personality in the game. Game modes are the lowest in my list of desires, but if we're going whole hog and just saying 'Okay, extra game modes like survivor or coin mode/other mini-games from SC3 and earlier ones?' I say yes, give me those two, they're another fun distraction from the big content.

I own all the games (all first print and factory sealed), all the limited edition guides, all the soundtracks, prerelease promo discs and much more! I spent a lot of money, but i just love this franchise so much. My favorite will always be soulcalibur iii, it's just so rich in everything, soulcalibur ii is a close second, it was also my first ever game that i played of them all, i really want namco bandai to do a soulcalibur vii, i really do, i'll buy everything two times, one copy to play and the other for my sealed collection, my favorite characters are Ivy and voldo, they are so cool and unique, i wanted to say so much mroe but my broken english is.... Broken lol, thank you for making this video, it's always nice to see love for this series

you are correct about soulcalibur legends if it were mapped to traditional controls. you actually end up having far more access to more combos and chains as a result as attacks seem to go beyond just one type of horizontal but even left and right swinging attacks for instance. as for opening direction in Soulcalibur 1, it’s actually an opening character replacement mode. You can replace Sophitia when she stands up in the grassy plains with someone else like Astaroth for instance.

Sc 2 to 3 had some major changes SC3 introduced the concept that hitting a opponents i. stun opponent will allow moves that normally only stun on counter hit to apply the stun state. This allowed for that chaining stun combos you often see in 3-6. 30also change how walls work. In 2 getting hit into a wall dealt additional.damage and left you in vulnerable but you could tech off them to avoid follows while 3 lead to more combos either by getting stunned from getting hit into the wall or bouncing off it. Also getting hit while tech rolling from the ground was change. Moves that launch would not launch people who were caught rolling in 2 but could relaunch on people rolling or even ukeming/quick teching in 3

I think the biggest mistake SC made was goung exclusive to ps2 in SC3. It feels like after SC2 the series had all the momentum and then like 30% of gamers couldn't even acceees the sequel. I know, that still the majority but sc4 didn't feel like as big if a deal and sc5 and 6 just flopped...

  • @BioshockDrill

As one of the millions who had a PS2 (the best selling game console of all time) it didn't matter to me that SC3 was Soulcalibur exclusive, but I feel the pain of the GCN and XBX SC2 fans who couldn't get their hands on it. They wanted to focus on maximizing the amount of stuff they could put in 3 and make it as awesome as possible (and in my opinion they did it), and since that meant they pretty much had to dedicate it to only one console the PS2 was the clear right choice, but it's also true that going console exclusive was still a bit disappointing for fans of the series overall. SC3 seriously deserves a remaster on modern platforms, for its original fans, for those SC fans who never had a PS2 to play it, and for all the players who had their save data ruined by the infamous data-deleting bug and permanently lost their playthroughs.

Soul blade and especially Soul calibur 1 on dreamcast were seminal moments of my childhood. SC1 in particular blew my mind at the time with the fidelity of the dreamcast port due to only being used to n64 and ps1 graphics. It was like seeing a good looking ps2 game years before ps2 would gain major traction and still holds up well today at much higher resolutions through emulation. I am sad soul blade and especially soul calibur 1 dont get the recognition they deserve despite being critically acclaimed groundbreaking titles. But i think that's largely because it was a bit too early for younger segments of gaming community. And they were only on one console each. Especially soul calibur which obviously was a dreamcast exclusive compared to soul calibur 2 which came out when ps2 gamecube and Xbox were all going strong. A much wider audience means much greater exposure after all.

Soul Blade was reasonably acclaimed for its time, at least enough to warrant a sequel. SC1 was where the series really took off in regards to critical acclaim though, and for good reason. SC1 is still talked about to this day as one of the best fighting games ever made. SC2 came off the success of SC1 but now it was released on platforms people actually owned, as well as the inclusion of the guest characters really helped push the SC series into the limelight. Unfortunately the series gradually faded from the mainstream afterwards. SC3's PS2 exclusivity seriously restricted its sales potential, and the reception from diehard fans didn't help the series' brand name. SC4 tried to pull a SC2 with the multiplatform releases and popular guest characters, but the damage was already done. Plus, SC4 was going up against heavy hitters like Tekken 6, Virtua Fighter 5, and especially Street Fighter IV. The gameplay was also beginning to feel stale in the eyes of most critics. By the time SC5 was released, the series was pretty much on life support and unfortunately it really showed when it came to how obviously rushed and lacking in content the game was (although this was the first and maybe only SC game to feature near flawless online versus). SC6 did the soft reboot thing, bringing back the most iconic characters and storyline from the original SC1 (yet strangely was still called Soulcalibur 6), yet unlike SC4 and SC5, the graphics were no longer as impressive as they once were, looking and feeling decidedly 'last-gen'. While critical reception was overall poritive, SC6 was hardly the big series rebirth that I'm sure Bamco wanted (and needed) it to be. While I appreciate the bigger focus on single-player content and the awesome character creator, the game really is just starting to feel 'stale', even for me as a longtime fan. So, back in the day, SC was definitely one of the most recognized fighting game series during its heyday, but the lackluster performance of the later games has kinda tarnished the reputation of the series as a whole it seems. Which isn't to say that the later games are bad by any means, but due to a number of circumstances - odd business and marketing decisions, the series has just been unable to keep up with the heavy hitters of modern times. Could the series ever make a comeback? Maybe. But I think it would take something like a 'true' reboot, with a new engine and graphical style, actually updated animations and meaningful new gameplay feel that doesn't feel forced or overly complicated (and maybe not be called Soulcalibur 7). Perhaps a reboot of the original Soul Blade/Edge? A man can dream.

Yeah Szc2 is my fav too in terms of the gameplay balance, perfect degree of depth without being overly complicated with unnecessary super meters and gaudy armor 'breaking'. It also featured my favorite renditions of my two mains, Cervantes and Siegfried/Nightmare. I also agree that SC5 wasn't the terrible game everyone ikes to call it - though I do understand the hate. The game is clearly rushed and unfinished. The roster is a joke and 2/3rds of the characters don't even have a story in any capacity. However I do feel like the gameplaynwas actually fairly solid, and I know I just dunked on the whole 'super meters' inclusion in the series, and while I do think they could have come up with something better, its inclusion here wasn't 'too bad'. Then again, I might just be more lenient on SC5 simply because I cheesed the f out of people online with Cervantes and especially Algol (and the fact that the online was actually good, let alone playable). Also the fact that my mains weren't cut, lol.

Allow me to fill in some blanks here: SC2 in the arcades had a special mode that was exclusive to arcades called Conquest Mode. It was basically a ghost battle type thing where you fought against other players' overpowered ghosts, which served to train your ghost. Depending on your ghost's performance you would obtain a percentage of land for your "nation". The mode was pretty much endless but it was always fun going into an arcade and seeing how much land your character had conquered while you were away. Also SC3 in the arcades had a few more characters than the console version, like fully-realized not-generic versions of Amy, Hwang, and Li Long. It also had bugfixes that were sorely needed in the console version and its own Conquest Mode as well. Unfortunately I never had a chance to play it myself, because it came out at a time where arcades were extremely dead.

The trade off debuffs on cool looking equipment was frustrating but I came out the other end able to reach the end of the top of the soul tower and the bottom, it's survival mode. At sleepovers we would play all day long until 2am playing matches over and over again. I was Mitsurugi, one of my friends was Siegfried and one was Voldo. Soooo something that ya didn't cover was Sould Calibur 2 Arcade's Conquest Mode. It's something that you can only experience in the Physical Arcade Only. It was basically like the Heros and Heralds from UMVC2 or even Mk's Factions. Basically you could raise your own Soul Calibur character from the main roster and have them "Defend" your Kingdom. The arcade did a pretty good job of saving your "Ghost Data" from matches. You could also try to takedown the other "kingdom's" Top fighters at any time. I was Top 3 for my Kingdom despite not having too much money to spend at the Arcade at the time Rank 1- 31,000 battles Rank 2 - 17000 battles Rank 3 - (Me) 570 battles :P . But I also won a few Tourneys back in the day so my Mitsurugi was a beast.

I don’t know if i’m just nostalgic because I played the 3 as a kid, but I feel that the 4, 5 and 6 lost the spirit of the 3. They should have kept the 3 as a foundation for the new entries. The arcade version of SC2 had an additional mode called Conquest, where every player would pick a fighter and have that fighter join one of three armies. Each army controlled a portion of a map and you would select an army to challenge and fight eight characters from that army. Every victory would contribute to your army’s progress until only one army remained. What I loved about this mode is that all the characters in each army are made by the players. You aren’t playing against the players themselves (the AI controls them), but the AI tries to mimic your play style, so when your character is challenged, it is trying to play like you would. At the end of the your eight fights, there is a bonus fight where you get to fight your AI controlled character and see how you will be portrayed when other players challenge your army. Additionally, the more you play on that arcade machine, and the better your win/loss ratio, the higher your character advances in the army and the stronger they become. I personally loved the mode. I wish it was still around.

I wish I could've tried it 😭 I have no idea why they didn't include this in the HD remaster

Soul Calibur 3 was on of the highlights of the ps2 gen. Character creator and chronicles of the sword were their own games in a way.

While my favorite is SC2 (yeah, cliche), SC1 has a special place in my memories because that's the first SC game I played, I loved the new trio of heroes Kilik, Xianghua and Maxi, plus Ivy, and looking back at it, this game has aged gracefully, still looks and plays good to this day.

About Yoshimitsu he is basically an ancestor of the one in Tekken. The reason they are both called Yoshimitsu is that the name is passed down to the leader of their clan who also bears the cursed blade with the same name.

Came after you told me to watch this updated version of the game. You didn't mention soul calibur 4's soundtrack :( I do agree with you though, as much as I love SC5's actual fighting gameplay better, SC6 looks amazing. And I also really hope that the series continues. And while I'm a month late to do that tournament, feel free to reply here if you wanna grind out some games online in SC6 :)

Virtua Fighter series introduced the ring out gameplay mechanic in 3d fighting games. And still uses it in the VF 5. Soul Blade/Calibur adopted it.
