Yeah this is how the games feel for me. I was lucky enough to somehow get my hands on the original trilogy for PS3 and coming back to them made me realise how timeless they'd made those games all the way back for the ps2. I'd be happy to get my hands on deadlocked, but that's not as easy of course. I remember renting that game over and over from the DVD store down the road when I was a kid (I'm 22 now).

@@cooper2211 but why would I spend that money when I can spend that money on… all those consoles?? And play them way better? I have tinkered with emulation extensively, on a PC way more powerful and less janky than a Steam Deck. The gameplay experience at the end is never worth it. And emulating DS games on a single screen just proves to me you don’t give a fuck about actually enjoying the game; just the idea that you theoretically could. How much time do you spend playing emulators?

Always nice to see Gladiator getting some love. My own personal favourite. Personally, my favorite is Going Commando. I'm not entirely sure why, but I just love every part of it. I actually find the 2 weapon level system cooler than the 5 level system (even if the latter is overall a better idea). Even the god forsaken ship levels I have come to like. Repetitive, sure, but get a little Raritanium and you have yourself a neat diversion from the main game. And lastly, something about the feel of the levels makes me adore the game's atmosphere compared to the others. For example, you can easily tell Oozla has been abandoned for years based on the looks and vice versa for Endako. To me, too many of RaC 1's levels feel dead when they aren't supposed to and UYA levels always feel populated even when they aren't. Overall, there's just something I can't quite put my tongue on about GC, but I seem to have a thing for the number 2 in my life. Maybe that’s why.
@redtapecollection3363

Totally agree. Going Commando is 100% got Insomniac's "Love of Labor" award as they expanded on the quality of level building and added more stuff overall compared to the first game. The third is just totally rushed and if you see other restrospectives regarding it's development cycle, no wonder it looks half-finished by the end of it.
@ebtflexer6535

I think the second game is the most immersive with the most interesting and flushed out characters and settings in terms of each place and person feeling more or less hand crafted. I think UYA was their idea of streamlining what worked in 2 and condensing gameplay down to cut off unneeded meat and to shill in a multiplayer mode that serviced the campaign. Deadlocked has my favorite combat and gameplay system with the most ridiculous interactions between all the characters. For me i adore 2 but something about the intense seriousness of Deadlocked coupled with all the gladiators and VOX being literal caricatures and the announcers who narrate the game having some of the goofiest lines in the series makes an enjoyable dichotomy that i can even enjoy 100% it. From ace being a worse qwark to clank being dumber in this than he was in the first game i just find it so formulaically contrived it’s hilarious. But the Gameplay is S tier for sure and the land stalker is the coolest looking vehicle in the series imo.

Was really looking forward to this sort of vid, discussing the games outside of the nitpick sprees. My top 5 would be: 1. Ratchet 1 2. Rift apart 3. Crack in Time 4. Up Your Arsenal 5. Toss up between Commando, Deadlocked, and oddly enough, Nexus Also, with what you were saying with the tower defence thing for Full Frontal Assault being a decent enough idea, it's made me hungry for a more metroidvania style Ratchet, with a similar structure to something like Metroid Prime.

This is like an anniversary thing for you on KZread! I absolutely loved your ratchet and clank game reviews I haven't watched all of it yet but I will tomorrow!!!
I was so obsessed with Deadlocked that I maxxed out every possible thing you can in the game. Max weapon levels, max nanotech, max obtainable mods (couldn't even use that many), skill points, 5 stars, all the cards, max money after all that. I didn't just complete it, I truly *completed* it.

Great list!! I think my list would be pretty similar!! I LOVE that you put Deadlocked/Gladiator where you did, recently I’ve been thinking about these games that I grew up with, and I find that Deadlocked’s gameplay is so addictive and tight that it might be my number 1 too!!!
I'm honestly surprised we agreed about Deadlocked. It's exactly where I would have placed it, too. I will say that I like parts of Size matters in concept more than execution.
It's really funny to watch this video having just watched your first video about RAC - you've come a long way man 👍
Hey, if you're scrolling through this comment section thinking to yourself "how do I get into this series, it looks pretty cool", just play the games in order (it's up to you to skip the spin-offs + size matters). None of the games are COMPLETELY unplayable (besides maybe size matters), pretty much ALL the games have something that hasn't aged perfectly, which I mean, you should come to expect from literally any video game ever made lmao. I grew up playing Up Your Arsenal on my dad's PS2, so I miiiiight be a BIT biased, but who isn't, amirite!? Anyway, this series is near and dear to my heart and I'm so glad it didn't meet the same fate that Jak and Sly did. R&C is one of the most consistent "good at worst, excellent at best" series out there, hell, even to a point to where I can ACTUALLY recommend both Going Mobile AND Before the Nexus.
I'm in this video! I mean, barely... but at 27:50 I'm behind the red base shooting the left turret from behind a holoshield. That's so cool :) Great video btw, this franchise is 20+ years old so it's nice to still see people that want to talk about it!
I actually think that what has kept Ratchet and Clank around is the zany adventures they get up to, and the gameplay didn't just rely on the platfroming itself, the gunplay got way more refined and to keep things really fresh each release had a new cast of weapons that players couldn't wait to mess around with.
Havent seen your channel since back in the cinemasins days. But man im so happy i watched this cause holy crap is this an improvement this is really really great
Great video! Ratchet Gladiator was my very first game in the series and I've loved it ever since
Oh man! Seeing a Ratchet and Clank video and from you of all channels is great! I was literally just talking about your channel with someone recently.
This is my favorite video of the year so far also I've always loved binge-watching your everything wrong with videos on the series honestly if it wasn't for you I probably wouldn't have given the sequels a chance
So interesting hearing a fellow fan's perspective on the series, especially when our top 6 is essentially the same just in a different order for a few different reasons (one of which being I am EXTREMELY biased towards RAC3, it was my gateway into the series about 14 years ago and I'm almost physically incapable of criticizing it in any way)
Ratchet and Clank 1 has one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard, and is probably one of the reasons I got heavily into music
nice list dude, glad youre making videos again :)

I know the release date of ratchet and clank all 4 one. Oct 19 2011. (Two thousand eleven).
It’s interesting seeing someone who started with ratchet and clank being friends in later entries being not a fan of ratchet’s attitude towards clank in the first game when for us who started there was like “ why is being a hero this dudes problem, he just wants to leave his planet and get some cool toys”
I LOVE that Deadlocked is #1. It's the most fun. In PvE or pvp I always love to constantly fight. Deadlocked has that and the humor etc. Definitely earned a like

Absolutely amazing video, always nice hearing you talk about funny animal with guns game. I still remember finding you through the EWW videos, and you've honestly been getting better with time since then. Also, I'm pretty certain you're 99% of the reason I tried the original Ratchet and Clank games. Currently I've only beaten 1 and 2, still need to get round to 3. Would personally rank 2 higher myself, but I enjoyed both a lot. And I really should pick up Deadiator/Gladlocked too.
Pretty hot takes you have there, but I respect them . Anyways, good to see you back man!
It's my fav raccoon talking about my fav series. Heck yea
Seeing the RYNO 8 referred to as the Big Disappointment made my day. Great video, Remy. The Ratchet and Clank games really are awesome, and while Deadlocked isn't my number one favorite, it's still one of my favorites, and I think you made a good call putting it at the top.
I actually liked the armour in size matters, I liked trying out the different set bonuses, with Stalker Armour being completely broken in how strong it is (I mean you do have to beat challenge mode once to actually have the pieces appear in the world, but still), it offers 96% protection from damage and gives you a melee attack that gives an absolutely broken amount of damage over time in both poison and fire, it can down the late game enemies with only one or two wrench strikes.
Love your vids, man I played and enjoyed all of them, and I can say that R&C: a Crack in Time is still my favorite game I still go back on the ps2 trilogy because I absolutely love them. I'm trying to get all the skill points in ALL FOR ONE for the unlimited ammo cheat for the RYNO 6, quite the challenge (looking at you jetpack master) Keep doing God's work

Commenting for engagement, thanks for the video!
I think the main reason why Ratchet and Clank stood the test of time was mainly due to the franchise starting off it's series embracing the old with the new, during the transitional peroid between the early to mid 2000's. It's combination of early 2000's collectathon platformer with the mid 2000's FPS games allowed the series to stay fresh while adapting to modern trends. This in tandem with Insomniacs passion of the franchise kept it from falling into that same muck that other franchises had fell into at the time. I'm really happy that I grew up with these games all the same and I especially have to thank you, Remy, for reminding me of all the good memories I've had with these games. With that being said, I have to give special thanks to Ratchet Deadlocked for introducing me to the series.
My favourite is without a doubt the original, I’m well aware of its early day flaws, the lack of a good strafe option, the edgy tense dialogues between the duo after Umbris (although I actually like how it develops the characters as both a pair as well as individuals) and the combat being slightly tedious at times. However it combines combat and exploration so well, both used in such good balance, the backtracking in levels like Orxon and Quartu is genius, especially Orxon. While slow, the very few clank sections are fine. And I can’t forget the soundtrack, not only are there plenty of absolute bops, but I think that every single soundtrack in the game achieves what they are supposed to, and that’s to set the tone of the level or the specific location or situation they are in, not a single song fails that goal.
@rhysthehendo1
10 ай бұрын
And one more thing, the level design, having every level (but Boss levels) have multiple paths without any real direction is amazing, rewards going out exploring, but doesn’t tell you what is necessary or optional. I love Oltanis for it’s brutal restriction of playing as solely ratchet, as you’ve been conditioned to using things like long and high jumps, as well as better movement, it’s now not even possible to jump from the landing pad to the centre of the level, and the level itself fully embraces that restriction, as well as having FOUR distinct paths! (Morph-o-ray, shop infobot, Quark PDA, and the swingshot gold bolt path)
This rank list was fun to watch and understanding the reasons

A Ratchet and Clank video from Vale4XD? It's been 84 years!
It's hard for me to pick a favourite in this series because they all do things right in their own different way. Going Commando probably has the funniest moments, Deadlocked is just straight gameplay dopamine, UYA has a great story with more memorable settings, CiT enhances the gameplay and makes clank levels fun for once. I went back to the og trilogy recently and hated playing it because of the clank sections or ship sections. Also, on a personal note, I started watching you in 2017, I think it was the UYA video. Back then I was still in high school, waiting for class to start sitting in the hallway. I've since finished high school and graduated university as well. Time flies. Also also, at some point you put out a video of your favourite media from 2021 I think. Mitchell's vs the Machines was included and I watched it because of you. Good movie.
And ratchet and clank q- force was released in 2012. And they all celebrated ratchet and clank's 10th anniversary in 2012! (Two thousand twelve)

I liked size matters as a kid because of fond memories of playing it on long road trips and stuff. I haven't played it in 12 years so I can't tell if it aged well(probably didn't).

The PS2 version was crap. The PSP version was at least excusable
I remember playing Tools of Destruction and being absolutely flabbergasted that a single NORMAL Cragmite didn't die from a FULL clip of Buzz Blades. And in return it kills me in two hits. How fun. At least there's dinogrinding, a really fun XP glitch that just lets you max all your weapons as soon as Sargasso becomes available
yooo a ratchet vid, and Gladiator deserves the respect you have given
