Here’s a story for you. When I was in college I went to a K-Mart that was going out of business. The electronics section was picked through but still had some decent stuff. There was a bin full of Crazy Town CDs and copies of Parasite Eve. I only bought Crazy Town because I thought Parasite Eve looked dumb. If only I knew.

It would have been a long time to hold.because game prices didn't go up until 2013, you can track it on pricecharting. It's was mostly because game companies gave up on backwards compatibility. And at the same time wanted to stop making physical games. So it's been a snowball effect, with the only slow down being xbox with gamepass.But now not anymore as Xbox will no longer support 360 or OG xbox those games are now going up

When I clicked on this list I had already decided I was going to judge you based on where you put Final Fantasy 9 and now I can say you are doing God's work

Breath of Fire is at the top of my list for series that need to continue.

I held off playing it for many years.. When I finally did I strangely completely lost track of time!

Swap out FFVIII for Valkyrie Profile and you got a solid list

My list of Playstation 1 RPGs is pretty extensive, just wish it included Tales of Destiny and Tales of Destiny 2/Eternia.

So happy you guys put Diablo on this list, I played it for probably a thousand hours, was my first diablo experience, did not have money for a PC

I like both but part 2 is more tedious. I still love both though. I like part 1 cause it seemed more mysterious, unknown, mysticism etc. I always thought Ashley transforming was the coolest thing though.

Any video that gives Chrono Cross the love it deserves, gets a like from me. Its one of the best games ever made. Also,very glad to see FFIX top the list. IX is still,to this day,the best FF game made.

It is INSANE that Persona wasn't on this list.

I remember playing Dragon Warrior 7 for the first time as a kid, and remembered not liking it at first, but as I kept playing it, I really started getting so engrossed and it became one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. Still been meaning to play the 3DS version though

Im surprised legend of legaia didnt make the list

Another story. My friend Justin bought Final Fantasy Tactics when we were in high school. We booted it up and got destroyed in the first fight. We tried everything, all day, and eventually got to where we could get all but 2 enemies down but couldn’t figure out how to win. The next day I get a call and he tells me to come over. He boots up the game, starts it, and shows me how to add other party members into a battle. We had been trying to win with only Ramzuh and Delita 🙄

I admittedly haven’t played them since I was a kid so my apologies if they haven’t held up, but I have mad nostalgia for Legend of Legaia and Jade Cocoon.

Good list, especially with IX at the top.

My personal favorites Grandia -my first jrpg love ff9 - my first introduction to final fantasy Lunar 1&2- reminded me of Nadia and studio ghibli films Vagrant story - Amazing story telling Vangard bandits- Favorite tactics jrpg Parasite eve- favorite horror jrpg Wild arms- fun exploration Breath of fire 3- favorite turn base combat Legend of dragoon- the most beautiful looking psx jrpg Klonoa- best psx platformer Megaman legends-best 3d and best English dub Chrono cross-best game opening (😅thats all I liked about it) Suikoden 2- best of the best!

Tales of Phantasia english translation is an absolutely beautiful game. Currently playing :D

I don't play RPG at all but I did play a little of FF9 and I loved it!

Final Fantasy 8 is my fav along with 7 one thing i loved was how the summons worked which they changed in 10 so didn't enjoy it along with 12. FF9 I now got it on Switch enter the ice care fought 2 bosses & lost because now I have to grind so early in the game nah I good. The rest of games look good maybe one day I'll play them.

The Diablo gameplay you showed was from the PC version

Story wise and overall impact to pop culture, it's final fantasy 7 and 8 and symphony of the night if you count that also as an rpg but it's more action rpg

My friend Dan and I once spent 16 hours straight playing Chocobo Hot and Cold. I’m done spamming comments… for now.

I’m so torn between SNES & PSX as my favorite classic system.. IDK maybe the latter has an edge as far as this genre for obvious reasons

I'm In the same.dilemma. I love sned because of obvious reasons bug when you think of ps1 rpgs..It was another world when they came out because of the better writing, deeper stories and graphics but snea has so many good ones too. I love bof2, Lucia, ff3 etc

Haven't played it yet but i'm shocked Legend of Legaia isn't here but Castlevania is which is not thought of as an RPG as much

No mention of the absurd price of Suikoden II...

Fuck yeah, Vagrant Story! I would personally put at at #1 on this list for its masterful storytelling and deep, complex and rewarding gameplay. And yeah, we're WAAAYY overdue for some kind of remaster/remake!

Grandia on 14? Cant take this list serious. Its one of my best RPG-Titles for the PS1. The music is awesome, the 2D-Sprites have some special charm, the story is one if not the best adventurous of all PS1-RPGs, the battlesystem really good and catchy. On my personal list it would be on 3, behind FF7 and FF9. And where is Valkyrie Profile? It would be 4 on my list. Really good creative style of an action-RPG. And where is Suikoden 1? Really criminal not to put the first title on a top 20-list. Parasite Eve, Castlevania, Diablo, Final Fantasy Tactics are not "really" true RPGs. They only have RPG-elements. You can of course argue for them, sure.

FF9 is all right. I prefer FF7 personally. And FF8 more than both of those. And FF6 more than all 3 of those. FF10 being my actual (offline) favourite FF game. On the original Playstation I reckon Xenogears would JUST squeak out Chrono Cross as my favourite. PS2 it's not even a close call. (see previous line)

The perks of living in a third world country was game copies (pirated) was available freely and very cheap, as cheap as your average lunch money in high school can brought 5 PS1 titles in a mart across your school. My generation in my country who happened to have some sort of consoles up until PS3 I guess, practically tested all the games available. PS1 CD pirated was even far cheaper than my previous genesis/ SNES/ NES, like 10x times cheaper lol. The only thing I didn't play at all on this list was only FF IX,.

Here’s my hot take for the day: Dragon Warrior 7 is better than 8.

Sad that FF VII, FF VIII and FF IX has a terrible job in translating the pre rendered graphics to HD, Square-Enix don't invest too much on this everlasting classics, I will play them but always be wishing for better versions
