kept the 41 after living with both but honestly if they made the 31 with the light on the drivers as well i would of kept that one its just when u see both of them side by side playing the 41 looks so much cooler with those extra lights on the speakers and it sounds amazing but the 31 realy is the perfect size

Great review, Erin! Bluetooth speakers are of particular interest to me. I wonder if you or anyone out there goes to their settings in their Apple devices and turns on the "Treble Booster". It sounds so much better to me! It's too bad that one is only able to check one setting because I would turn on the "Bass Reducer" as well.

Apart from the xb21 for its lights...the xb 31 & 41 are a great uprade form last years models...will get the xb31 & 41 along with the Jbl Xtreme2 to add to my collection of 22 bt speakers

I have the older XB30 and, once you turn off the 'disco-room' lighting, it's quite a nice speaker. No need to use the app if you don't want to. Nice review, Erin!

I loved it! Bought it to be kinda of the sound system for my new apartment (getting married this saturday). The sound is very impressive and the Leds are beautiful. The strobe lights and the Party Booster are for sure the parts I liked the least. But since both can be disabled it's not a real 'Con'. As for your video, very informative and professional! Keep the great work! :)

I really wanted the XB41 but I got the 31 because it was $150 cheaper. I do like it and the brand. I'll wait to get a bigger and even more improved SONY speaker next year.

The XB31 is plenty of speaker for me weather I’m hanging at the pool, on the beach or just want some ambient sound in a room in my house. The lights are not necessary but my kid does think they’re cool. I do wish I could use the USB port to plug a flash drive into so I could play music with out using my phone. Nice review. It should be mentioned that two speakers can be paired to play in stereo.

@Erin Lawrence is the BASS sound substantial with the SRS XB31 and SRS XB41?

With the previous model you can’t control 2 speakers volume at the same time ( when using on PC) so is useless if you plan to have a stereo environment. With this model volume is independent or it can be controlled at the same time ?

If you have the newer bluetooth u can connect two speaker

Is it has video audio lag while playing some movie or Netflix?

I got the xb31 about 8 months ago. Love it. But might get the xb41 for a bit louder sound ! But for now. I'm good with xb31. When i have it at 100% volume play time with lights. Battery life is 2.5 to 3 hrs. And no lights about 4 to 6hrs depending what music your listening to. I also have it on live mode... Only thing I'll would want sony to do with this size speaker is just a little louder for thier new version update.

Sony announced the new models and it’s a step back in terms of design. The 21, 31, and 41 are the best looking out of the generations of Sony’s portable speaker.

I have XB41 and I love it, before I had X-mini Clear, which was good, but this one is different league, much more bass, much louder, more durable, more playtime, plenty of fun features, you can charge it with regular usb to micro b, like all my devices, you can use it to charge your phone, it has 3.5mm audio jack, for faster charging you get dc adapter (which I dont really use), I really dont know, if it's possible to make speaker any better ;)

I have the charge 3 and I was thinking of getting the xb31, from these 2 speakers which one has more bass to it, the charge 3 has a good amount of bass to it but does the xb31 have louder and better bass?

I didn't love live mode and don't think it actually sounds live, so I'd never use it. for that reason the XB 41 is still my choice. let me know what you do end up with, and how you like it!

@Ice Inducer damn! That's harsh! Even though I have an Xb-41 and its great for parties and stuff but it isn't that good in terms of sound quality the high notes get muddy for the extra bass sometimes but for me it's just fine because there is an equalizer in Sony music app . peace!

can u plz let us knw how long the battery lasts if its played on full power of volume.

For the xb 31 and 41 about 10-11 hours for the small one around 4-5 hours I think

Bluetooth speakers the size of the XB21 can be bought around 40 bucks but then you get something either no-name or a cheapo china brand. If you can find the XB21 at a discount for the same price I think that is a killer deal. Got mine that way through Amazon Warehouse Deals. I mean, if you spend 40 bucks on a speaker are you gonna spend it on a brand you don't know or on a brand like Sony that is known for making great audio devices?

How does the xb23 compare to xb21 in your opinion? My Xb21 broke so need to replace it. It is still more expensive than xb23 so I wonder if there's a reason for it. Is xb23 an upgrade in terms of sound quality? I don't mind not having the aux input and the lights.

Hello, Erin! You seem to know quite a bit about Sony gudgets. Perhaps you could help me with the following. A year ago a bought an SRS-XB30. I then decided to try to put two Sony units together as a stereo pair. I saw a fantastic deal on SRS-XB41, and purchased that one as well (but haven't un-boxed it yet). Here's the question. Can SRS-XB3*0* (prev. gen.) be used as a stereo pair with the newer SRS-XB4*1*?

Is it possible to turn off the bluetooth? My xb41 only work for 10 hours. No lights on but always Max loudness. Is this ok?

Hanno Mack that’s not bad if you use max volume. You should be able to turn the Bluetooth off on whatever device you’re using then use the auxiliary cable

I hooked the srs-xb41 with my MacBook pro, later removed the device on mac's bluetooth setting, now I can't even find it. I can't even find srs-xb31 as well.

Mine won’t charge.. The charger i’m using now fit, but it only charges sometimes or never, but i’m not sure.. 🤔 I’ve been using many different chargers. It’s kind of a little red light above the charger, but what does that mean? Charging or nah? When i turn it on, it turns off again as if it’s not charged. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ But i think i lost the charger that came with it, IF a charger even came with it.. idek.. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Heeelp meee pleaseee. 😩

Yes me too it would not pair so I had to download the sony music centre app and do it that way worked first time and the app is worth having.

I use the Sony "app" to control my Sony audio devices. You can power on/off with it

Bought red xb21 & black xb31 only opened xb21 bumps so hard happy camper. xD

I got various models of the speakers that feature Party Chain. The app crashes way too much and Sony themselves can never give straight forward direction on how to get Party Chain to actually work. I had to rely on KZread to get all the speakers playing together. Basically + and add on older models and WPC on the newer models. Sony always comes out wit features they don't support properly. Aside from that I enjoy these Sony Products.

The Xb31 is As loud as the JBL Xtreme 2 in battery mode. The Flip 4 won't get any chance. but you have to remove some mids in Sony's build in EQ. Otherwise it will sound a bit muffled.
