This really shows how adaptable the game's physics are. It's nice to have a big open world to run through but this looks more like level design and I'm glad to see this works as a video game rather than just a sandbox

I love this level design and how much it focuses on momentum and maintaining speed! Only thing it needs is lots of branching paths like most 2D Sonic levels have, not necessarily being too open-ended and still focusing on reaching the goal but leaving so many ways for the player to get there.

Yeah, and it's better to have said branches spread out on the Z axis and not just the Y or X variants. Allowing sonic to move within hallway type levels is cool, but if the hallway had forks in the road that would be a cool thing to experiment with, along side the vertical platforming of the classics.

This was a test level created BEFORE the release of the demo we got

I really hope this is still being worked on! I absolutely adored the public demo and have been waiting on updates ever since, so I'm glad to have found this video even if I'm rather late lol

Anyone else hates how the jump feels in boost-era games? All heavy and no momentum. This one here rules, wish we could get a full game with levels like these.

Hate it in 2D, prefer it in 3D. Weight is necessary in 3D, otherwise it looks like every open world Sonic fangame where your feet just never touch the ground and you spend 90% of the level flying over it instead of running through it. In 2D Sonic has just never felt right in boost games, not like horrendously unplayably off but the classic weighty jump just never gets properly translated. I don't mind if speedrun tech has you do a trick to jump over the whole level but that should be a speedrun trick, not canonized into casual play.

I know that the jump stops you from flying off, but I still agree with you, the jump feels too quick when you are ascending and too slow when descending. It just feels like sonic's dragging an invisible chain ball with him. I always hated how when you jump it just cancels all your momentum, This is one of the only reasons I don't revisit boost games

@@snakey888 While the problem is present in all the 3d games it isn't as bad in sa1 and 2. when the player jumps in those games instead of them going to a low vertical speed automatically after jumping they gradually go from ascending to descending and the ascent speed is lower in sa1 and 2 meaning that it doesn't feel like sonic being forced upwards and then falling like a feather afterwards. also, in sa1 and 2 jumping doesn't decrease your speed by much unlike in the boost games

miss that open world but still looks great and enjoying to play. But I have the feeling that I've seen this footage a couple years ago.

I like the spring jump animation. is so funny

Sonic's ball model is leftover in the files of the demo. Heck I could make a whole series on unused stuff in this game.

Looks super impressive, I hope the game will be updated sooner

The bass in the song sounds like a version of the bass from the genesis

I really hope this actually gets finished someday. Because that would be amazing. Most fan games usually get abandoned or canceled altogether.

Development restarted 2 years ago due to a bigger team. They’re not showing anything until it’s at least close to done. Many devs reside in South Island central which is a sonic discord

If they release this I hope they make an option to have the old spinball instead, the new oval shaped one looks shitty unless its for the spin-dash, and the jump just looks so extra.

i don't like that they gave up on the open format, i feel there is far mor potential to a game like that instead of this adventure 2 levels, just put objectives in the map and you are good to go

The devs of the game posted some footage of development, but this is only from a few months from the og demo. They developed much further but restarted development 2 years ago. They’re still making it, but they aren’t gonna show anything until it’s at least close to finished.

I recon I would change a few textures around to make level 1 look more like a grassy beach and then for level 2 I would introduce more verticality by having a tropical rainforest with a network of winding branches. this level would also contain several treehouses and workshops.

Linear levels floating in air sux, and gives this stupid runner gameplay we saw in Sega official 3d games. They had perfect 3d world formula in old demo, please stick to it, no linear floating platform levels please, this is bad idea for Sonic! Utopia 2016 was nearly perfect, just make levels themed like every classic levels in n 2d sonic and fill them with more meaningful and challenging content, maybe tony hawk pro skater style (like you know do the tricks, get higher score , collect tape letters, and do everything as fast as you can, unlock new levels after beating some goals and collecting minimum score), add some encounters with robotnik in different machines with some physics based puzzle needed to be solved to beat him, also add some chases after robotnik or away from him, again with smart usage of level elements to beat him. Add sonic friends and ability to swap to them and start some competitive coop goals with ai controlled NPC in case you have no one to play with. This would make a perfect 3d sonic! Not this linear crap again!!!

This obviously isn't a full level yet. It's gonna still have multiple path ways and be wider. Also the Sandbox is way to big. And dosen't really give you the incentive to progress forward. But don't worry they are supposed to be like the old games so pathways and secret goodies are plentiful.

this is just a sonic forces level anyone praising this is a sheep and dont know game design in the slightest
