Very relieved to know that the project isn't dead. Sonic Utopia is easily the best fanmade Sonic game I've seen, and it's the one I'm most looking forward to seeing news for.

Yeah sonic utopia is one of my favorite fan games

I always have a load of anxiety for projects like this cause alot of them get cancelled or never get worked on again

Whenever I think about that I think of the game Superliminal, and it helps me calm down a bit. That game took like 7 years to finally get finished but it did get finished. 8 years if you count the deleted earliest demos

I didn’t even know they were still working on utopia....

I wish sega would pick these guys up and make a full on triple A game based on these mechanics and visuals.

man, this only happened out of mania, for some reason, they don't want indies in 3D games or the same size as Frontiers, maybe fear, they just want to play it safe, and maybe they don't want to hire people... companies, you know how it is

Yeah I didn't know they were still working on Sonic Utopia I'm also kind of glad they're working on it more

If any of the levels shown are any indication of the idea's later levesl might be, I'm really hyped! Granted they might all be scrapped before a new demo release but I still play the green hill level over and over to this day; so new levels, no matter what they are will be exciting!

I was really hoping frontiers would have gameplay similar to this demo, but alas. Can't wait to see any updates on this game, because the demo was super fun to play around with

Frontiers started development immediately after they finished Forces in 2017, right before the big fan game/spiritual successor boom of 2019. So by then it was set in stone. The optimist in me suspects that if (and that's a pretty good if) Frontiers totally bombs, SEGA will probably throw in the towel and give Sonic Team a lease to look for more external inspiration. I'm not saying "Hire this man." but no-one would blame them for blatantly emulating the works of fans by this point.

Frontiers update 2 added the Spin Dash and momentum, it feels closer to Utopia now

Just found this video. *Deep breath* OK, all's good. The team's still workin' on it. They didn't decide to abandon the game out of boredom or something. Thank God. If Sonic Frontiers sucks, (for me, that's a pretty high possibility) hopefully I'll still have this golden gem of a fan game, plus Sonic GT.

Well glad to hear there still working on it in that video with sonic running around and it said time up there I liked that the demon has no time limit which will allow you to play and run around for as long as you want I hope theres a sandbox mode that will allow you to play the zones in a big open area like the demo with no time limit

Crazy how this isn’t finished even tho it’s been in development for like 7 years now meanwhile gt was finished in 3

at least make the project open source so we all can have a chance to get a game out.

I am happy, the dev is critical thinker unlike the normies that consume product. so the game will probably have many years until utopia is finished! I will be hyped until then.

1 year later and it hasn't released but I don't know though because I want to be a programmer and I know it takes time

It's dead. The only other option is they're VERY smart and avoiding a cease & desist by releasing no more trailers. But 99.9% of these just die out...

no in fact Lange made a tweet recently that’s it’s still in development. He also said they would make a formal announcement if it was cancelled. But no more demos, to quote him “Full game or bust”
