Some friends and I were discussing this story, cause I keep coming back to this video and while we went to take a look at JC's Deviant Art and Fur Affinity, we realized a few kind of horrifying things. 1. JC the Hyena is presumably 25 years old as of 2020. 2. He's had his fur account for 10 years, meaning he was about 16/17 when he actually did write Sonic.EXE 3. The guy does commissions for art and writing, charging a cent for every word. And if his reboot of Sonic.EXE was anything to go by, the guy overcharges for his work. 4. He refers to himself as Sexy Ass God, Prince of Everlasting Darkness, and a few other things 5. He is very up front about what he's into, referring to his butt a couple of times with emphasis on both DA and FA. 6. He draws fake product ads for his fake company "Hyena Labratory Inc.", one of the products being Hyena Butter, whatever the fuck *that* is, and it is apparently spaghetti scented. UPDATE as of 2021: *Allegedly* he's been outed as a pr***tor and his now ex-girlfriend owns the rights to the story. Fucker's weird.

The biggest, most important point you mentioned I see none else ever talk about was ''the game is not actually scary, the protagonist is scared by the character not acting like they are supposed to'', adding to ''If you are not a Sonic fan, it will mean nothing to you''. I remember what the image looked like in that split second of the KZread video. The screen was green; a computer-like display overlaid above what looked like a wild, tangled mass of leaves. A centipede, a lizard, and a compass dominated the center of the screen, accompanied by a descriptive panel referencing an attached image, and speaking of plains stretching South. Near the bottom of the screen, a hyper-realistic juvenile Allosaurus was displayed before me, it's fierceness reading '394', and it's agility sitting at 0.7, while it's energy simply read 'huge'. As if taunting me in this moment of terror, the screen mockingly read "Hint: Eat to grow - grow to move on to Level 2", as though to remind any soul unfortunate enough to behold these words of their own insignificant Level in the grand scope of existence itself.

YuriOfWind kept making fun of Tom as someone who thought the whole world revolves around him, and his over emphasis on the blood. I like how Kyle was supposed to have died, then he appears again, alive and well, in another crappypasta.

The reason the narrator recognizing the song backwards worked for Ben Drowned's infamous backwards version of the Song of Healing, is because the Song of Healing is done in a way that is still fairly recognizable when played backwards, and because it is from the same game, not so much for the reversed Earthbound music in Sonic.EXE.

When I did the "*insertnamehere* the hedgehog" thing, I just got pictures of dogs and bunnies. My name isn't very common, so I'm safe. Thank the heavens.

Anyone hate how when you go to the comment section of EarthBound tracks, there's always those kids talking about how the tracks are from Sonic.EXE?

Years later, I'm honestly shocked that JC's bitchfit actually ended up coming true in a roundabout way. While he basically has been vetoed out of having ownership of the character, the sonic.exe idea has basically exploded into a bunch of (mostly crap) OCs and reimaginings that are surprisingly, at least kinda cool. Some good mentions are remakes like the conniving Lord X, or more eldritch characters like Sonic.EYX; these basically examples of how in a way, his little hellspawn creation really DID outlive all the other creepypasta characters. Even Jeff the Killer is only relevant because people are trying to find out the source of the creepy face associated with the character.

Why does the game end with the DOOM ending screen

I think one of my least favorite things about the original creepypasta is that it tries way too hard to make you *feel* emotions. With examples such as "i am a smart gamer" or "tails is so sad", it flip-flops between emotional pacing every 2-5 sentences, making it feels like the written equivalent of tone-deaf music. Just a bunch of random notes playing out supposedly trying to make you feel something, but with nothing coming of it. On top of that, it's no secret that this creepypasta is objectively the opposite of scary. But I feel that not only is this due in part to the piss-poor writing and attempts at horror, but also because of these uneeded tonal discrepancies in the writing. All that said, Good video!

I like how the creator calls this dumpster fire a masterpiece. Most of the people who read it probably hates it.

Nobody likes sonic unleashed. That one didnt age quite so well...

This video came out in 2016, so looking back on it in 2024 is an odd experience. Sonic.exe is really the only old creepypasta that’s still around. With the countless fan games that are infinitely superior than the original story, or the absurd amount of .Exe stories still being written. I guess the original creator was write in saying that Sonic.Exe would have the laugh yet.

I think the reason why a lot of the things have very detailed descriptions when Tom shouldn't have even known about them (the music and the Sonic.exe frame at the beginning) is because JCTheHyena was trying to have someone make a videopasta and he wanted the details on what to make the game look and sound like in the story so the videomaker could put said sounds into the video.

Shed 17 was actually pretty disturbing, but it was made just to spook people with a simplistic story.

The funniest part is most people probably recognize the laugh from this instead of final fantasy

I’m autistic and even I could say this is SO bad man I hate this and I am disgusted that writers like these can’t just understand AND MAKE ORIGINAL STORIES

The most scary version of sonic was in the first movie trailers. (I mean in the first ever trailers)

Not gonna lie, when i was like 7 years old (back when the creepypasta first came out in 2012) I thought it was actually mildly creepy and somewhat fascinating. Looking at it now I'm honestly concerned that it ever got this popular. The overuse of blood and gore were a bit obnoxious though. And, the ending where there's a "sonic.exe plushy" behind the main character staring at him really just ruined the whole thing. If the author wrote it as if it was a fucked up hacked game that had been lost to time and recently rediscovered, the story would've been a whole lot better. A lot of the creepypasta is just additional shit to extend it. It could've been a short and sweet (and actually somewhat decently written) creepypasta if the author didn't write like a 9 year old.

I've always wanted to write a parody Pasta about someone who finds a creepy game cartridge... But has seen Creepypastas before. And doesn't get scared. Just a wild ride (hopefully I'd be willing to do a ton of photoshops and stuff to add images in too) with a main character going "And then it just flashed to some gross picture of what I'm guessing is some poor dead guy. I mean, I jumped, sure, but I hardly consider that fear. If this game doesn't step it up next time I play, I may just get bored and stop." And I'd play everything 100% straight aside from the protagonist. Cliched as all hell, if need be.

I like some of the games, but yes, the fanbase is complete toxic autism, and the fact that the author trhew a fucking temper tantrum when his story was removed just proves this. Also, it took years for the wiki to take it down is just abysmal. Also, I was typing this up before you even brought up the temper tantrum, and holy shit, you did an amazing reading of it! XD

Also, when I first read Sonic.EXE, I was going through a dark period in my life where I actually liked stories like Jeff the Killer and thought they were real (Oh god kill me now) but I read this story when it was still on the CPW, and it did not scare me at all!

See the whole glicth thing would make sense if 1. He only noticed a twitch since its only a single frame 2. He replays the intro to see if it happened again for further analyst 3. He assumes it was just some easter egg hes never heard of before akin to the fun is infinite easter egg in sonic cd. Since it only appears for a single frame he doesn’t find it odd that he never saw it before.

I think a good idea for game creepy pastas could be that they are being stalked online and the ‘creepy’ character could be either warning him of the stalker or being the stalkers avatar

If the game is "haunted" and you want to destroy it, Kyle. How about you destroy the disk yourself?!

the original Sonic.exe is basically a failure. And it’s funny because Exe looks like a cartoon horror villain. Just because you put blood on his eyeballs and dilated his pupils extremely doesn’t make him scary. It makes him look like a Halloween costume. They didn’t even try with the story. It’s literally “Sonic bad now, Sonic kill friends and eggman. Sonic kill player.” At least make a effort to make it good. A creepypasta about the sound test screen on US soundtrack of Sonic cd was scarier because it actually was original. At least the protagonist of that story had the game and a SEGA Saturn instead of having it sent to him. It was based off an actual rumor on the fun is infinite screen being an anti-piracy. And unlike .exe the protagonist actually does the right thing: rip the game out the console and throw it away never to play Sonic Cd again. JC is the equivalent of a fanfic writer who just copies other fanfics.

About Sonic.exe's design: sure, it might not be scary, but it looks really cool and it's iconic About the story: I just disagree, it might not be an extremely complicated story, but that isn't a bad thing. The concept of Sonic killing his friends and demonising them is really cool. I have to agree that the creepypasta isn't that good, but sonic.exe's design and the story aren't bad.

I don't know why everyone points to Giygas as the scariest part of Earthbound, I mean.. Poo's training is way worse if you are reading.. Heck, even Prep before Giygas is worse, especially the sound effects.

I just went on the author's DA and asked them if they're still proud of the pasta despite the criticism. So now I'm just waiting to see if they're gonna go on an angry tirade or if they've grown as a person, because their art is pretty good.

And why does every single one of the scary stories have to have blood in it since it is scarier if it’s just tension rather than tension core factor because look at finites of Freddies with barely any blood and it’s scarier than the shit mainly because it puts you on edge while are you play it

I felt a tiny bit insulted by that because I liked Sonic Unleashed too, it’s not that bad of a game; it’s way better than Sonic ‘06 and it’s story can be taken a bit more seriously than Shadow the Hedgehog. Sure Sonic turns into a werewolf/hedgehog hybrid thing but I think that’s only a problem for people who aren’t fans of Lycanthropes

I checked, SONIC.EXE used the word "Hyper-realistic" 4 times. 4 F**KING TIMES!!!

11:44 at best, I believed I saw a green and black grid and a blue planet logo. That is literally all I could see in the split second without looking back.

I always found exe games in general kinda repetitive it's just "a character from a kids show or a character from a popular game turns evil and kills his friends the end" then in some of them theres an alternate route where the characters survive and have to find a way to turn the main character back to normal.
