He will be a lot more interesting since he obviously is a psychopath in the making and hell, has friends that will defend him whatsoever (no matter how bad he is). Randy should have been the creepypasta, Randy the Killer. A guy that makes anyone to insanity with his friends.

"Interesting" is a strong word to use in this context because I stand by my statement that Randy and his goons are entirely one dimensional plot devices, they aren't even characters, they're completely interchangeable. However, you do make a good case that they are certainly more cruel than Jeff and would fit the serial killer build much better.

Let's compare Jeff to a slasher villain who also started killing at a young age: Michael Myers. Michael Myers is genuinely creepy because he isn't a sympathetic kid who just loses his mind one day. He was always a bad egg (we're ignoring the sequels here), and it was only a matter of time before he went on a stabbing spree. He was always a cold, distant, and heartless force to be reckoned with. He is, to quote Dr. Loomis, "..purely and simply evil." Michael also has a creepy appearance. A paper-white William Shatner mask that doesn't quite reach the other side of the uncanny valley is an objectively unnerving sight. But when placed on a towering brute who will use whatever he wants as a weapon... yeah, you aren't gonna be pointing and laughing at that. He's also totally silent. Michael doesn't need a catchphrase to be iconic. His ominous silence is all he needs. Jeff, on the other hand, is just a normal kid who spontaneously goes crazy when he gets attacked by a trio of skateboard dweebs. That's not how psychopathy works. There are always warning signs that appear years before someone becomes a psychotic killer. Jeffrey Dahmer dissected cats, Richard Ramirez slept in a cemetery, Ted Bundy surrounded his aunt's bed with knives... you get the idea. In Jeff's case, there was no warning whatsoever. Sure, there's that "random feeling" he had, but again, that's not how psychopathy works. A psychopath is almost always withdrawn and emotionally cold, only finding joy in asserting power and dominance over others. A psychopath doesn't just randomly feel angry when he's trying to get some sleep. As for Jeff's appearance... it's laughable at best. A pale, noseless, black-haired face with dark circles around its eyes and a Glasgow smile looks kinda goofy. And when that face sits on the body of a scrawny teen with a gray hoodie and black sweatpants... he doesn't really look like a killer. He looks more like a drug addict. Also, there's the problem of Jeff's catchphrase. "Go to sleep" isn't interesting in the least. In fact, all of Jeff's lines of dialogue are bland and uninteresting. Say what you will about Freddy Krueger's wisecracking; at least it helped develop his character. Jeff doesn't have a character to develop, so giving him a couple spicy one-liners is like putting cilantro on a slice of Wonderbread.

Okay I am going to say the reason why this creepypasta failed was simply because it was not scary. The main character is basically Red Hood from the Killing Joke. He suffers from emotional stress that drives him over the deep end and into a life of crime. He gets poured with bleach disfiguring his face. The author is not even trying to hide it. It's the Red Hood clear as day just like Sonic.exe is Mephiles The Dark. Gosh some popular creepypastas aged pretty badly huh?

Banning K's Jeff The Killer actually makes more sense than the original and he actually had a reason to kill his parents and he didn't just do it just because he was insane. It also had a story based on the perspective of Liu and his side of the story.

See, I think Jeff is the best example of first ocs. They are really important, as they are the starting point of every creator. Jeff is the best example of a well thought out character with poor execution, and can be a great learning opportunity for everyone. Jane, in comparison, is a good example of a bounce off oc, which are similar to background or secondary characters. They help flesh out stories and help world building, no matter how bad the characters themselves are, another important thing to learn as a starting creator. I will admit, jeff is poorly made, but I don't think he deserves the ridiculous amount of hate the fandom gives him (and jane and nina by extension) because he is the starting point, the bottom line. I do agree with most of your points, but I wish you would take these things into account. He isn't scary, but if Jeff didn't exist, we wouldn't have amazing pastas like kagekao or Jason the toymaker. Because of how bad they are, we (and the authors) learn and get better, and thus better characters are made. Characters like this are so important and good for every fandom, as their flaws improve so much about everything else around them. Actually, sometimes how bad they are can get so famous the fandom will grow ridiculously large. Long story short, none of us love Jeff. If you do, you're lying to yourself. But you have to recognise the importance of bad characters like Jeff the killer. We have to give him credit where it's due, because at least 40% of us wouldn't be here without having known him. Not hating on you, just ranting about all the senseless hate the fandom gives him.

Ya know what pisses me off more that super-bleach changing his skin white? The fact he would still looked creepy if his face was just burnt. I don’t mean burnt off, a burn victims face, after its been healed, could still turn out pale and mostly lose its nose and lips.

The problem is that Creepypasta sites are like gigantic hug boxes that no one can make a bad commentary or leave honest criticism, therefore, every rewrite will be as bad or worse than the last one. This comment was from one day ago: This rewrite is a masterpiece in all honesty. I really respect the effort in this story and your sequels. You turned a 5K word mediocore story into a 19K word intriguing reboot followed by another 100K words in your four sequels for a universe of your own that you have made. I would love to indulge in this universe more, and if you continue it more as a part 6 and beyond, I would love to see it The fanbase is trained to praise low effort by default. Kudos to the guy who wrote the One by One reboot. At least that had effort and potential. I hope the guy who wrote that version starts a new work instead of fixing Jeff.

Tbh I've only read one creepypasta that actually fucked me up. It's called Borrasca. It's a LONG read, but from what I can remember, it's very well-written and the final twist really hits you like a freight train.

You might have already been told this or found it out on your own, but just in case, Sesseur didn't create the original Jeff the killer image. He did create the Jeff the killer character and backstory, but the image he used is featured in a Japanese video named nnn, which predates his video, and apparently the image was also found being posted on a Japanese forum site in 2005. So... god knows where, why, or when the image was actually taken. I know you didn't actually say that sesseur created the image, just that he claimed to do so, but I just thought I'd clarify.

I come back and watch this semi-regularly and it just dawned on me that if Jeff 2015 was based more on someone like Edmund Kempur, who killed someone whenever he had a fight with his mom, then maybe it would have had a better chance. This is litteraly just what happens when you base a story around a picture or an already designed character. Personally i rewrote the story because i thought the character had potential. It was based loosely on that documentary child of hate. I think if it had focused more on jeff's mental state It could have been a pretty good story.

Well, there is a character named Jane the Killer, the Creepypasta is about a girl named Jane (obviously) who tells Jeff's story from her perspective, as well as telling the reader about how he ruined her life...

i never knew about the 2015 version (which I find kind of surprising because I was still big on creepypasta at the time) until I started watching your videos

If Jeff wants to smile, instead of slicing his mouth and burning eyelids, he should at least tried to smile and I mean at that time he is not at psycho stage

the one thing that works is that jefe's stupid face burns into your retina if you look at the picture for any amount of time

my favorite version/interpretation of the story is the one where reality kicks in and like he should have jeff dies shortly after he kills his family due to the self inflicted injuries and "jeff" is actually a whole bunch of copycats who just dress up like him to kill people

Jeff basically would’ve screwed himself over when he decided that Eyelids were the least important part of his face. A lot of people have pointed out that he would’ve been blinded after he burned them off, BUT. He would’ve also died of lack of sleep because, I’m sorry if you haven’t noticed, you need your eyelids to rest.

I used to be scared of Jeff the killer. Then I realized how crappy and nonsensical the story is... Also it's a freaking teenager.

Great video man! You earned a sub from me! You know, I love those Killer Robin hood types, but I don't think that character type fits Jeff (right now anyway). Jeff should either be a remorseless killer like Jason, or a killer who cracks jokes like Freddy. Instead they try to turn him into some hero, and it tanks the quality of the damn fan fic!

I didn't know there were rewritten Jeff stories. What if there's an amazing rewrite out there that the contest creator didn't allow to be published? Though at the same time any average Joe could come up with another version and it'd be better than the 2011 and 2015 ones. Also has anybody made a good sequel story yet?

By the way, on the topic of his face burning. Not only would him losing his eyelids make him go blind slowly and painfully, but I have seen face burn victims and they do not look like that. Their face looks more bubbled and bumpy and a lot more horrific-looking than just a plain white leathery face. Or if it was a chemical burn, it would look more like they have an extremely bad looking rash or something, I don't know how to describe it, but it would not look like that.

Every time someone question's Liu's name, I kinda get confused a little. Does no one who reviews/rants on creepypasta not played Mortal Kombat? I was always under the presumption everyone knew how to pronounce Liu, mostly because it half-way sounds Asian sounding, and there is a popular video game character with the name "Liu Kang."

I first heard about Jeff the Killer at around 2015 or 2016 in a top 10 creepypasta list by Matthew Santoro. Even back then (when I was like 12), I wasn't phased by ol' Jeffe. Though it might be because his entry on the Rake had me up at night for like a week and overshadowed every other pasta on that list.

I would question the motive on how candle cove was terrifying, it had sparked some curiosity on how the show was but it didn't sound scary even for the ending! I mean all this time they were watching static?

Well you see that's the thing because I feel like Jeff The Killer as a concept as a whole is a great idea for a story like this but the problem I find with the story is that your antagonist is your protagonist while it can be a great idea to choose as your main character, while also the problem I have with it is that you know everything about him, his family, his home life, his torment, and that's the same problem with the 2015 remake looking back on it now but however that's where I come in to say that if you were to do a interesting story remake or reboot of this character alone but not focusing on Jeff but on someone else as a main character like for example one of the bullies in the story per say for example Keith, or Troy, or yes dare I say this Randy, or in this case tell it from the parents perspective or if not that, then tell it from Liu's perspective with his version of the story on how he remembers it while you can still have Jeff the central focal point of the story itself but keep him vague in the shadows and have like little tidbits of information of like random creepy shit that Jeff would be seen doing in the story but you pay no mind to it because it's like you're thinking to yourself "Okay whatever it's probably not gonna come back into this story in play wise" but then it eventually does as something as it's revealed in layer format that Jeff is not right and something creepy and fucking off about this guy but you can't place what it is though but you know that it's something about him that makes you think like "Okay I'm staying 10 feet apart from this motherfucker because this asshole fucking scares me period!!!" That's where both versions of the story fail because instead of doing what I said would work for this story however it just comes off as not generic and forgettable but it's more like a long the lines of like "Well....we tried but what was the point in it all?"

I think one of the reasons that most creepypastas suck as much as they do, is because of the reputation its gotten. Something like Slenderman was probably original for its time, but now it's the most redundant horror story ever, with a million and 2 clones for its spin-off game. Creepypastas have also been taken over by clearly young people, who still probably get scared by this kind of stuff, and therefor they'll mix non-horror media with it, which is probably what I hate most about creepypasta. Nothing destroys the horror more, than finding it in some shitty RPG maker game, where the protagonist is friends with all the famous creepypasta characters. These combined, makes people who probably know how to write horror well, not want to tread the territory, both for its reputation, and also because they know their stories would probably bomb because of the low standards.

If you wanna hear a Jeff story actually worth listening to I suggest you listen to The Morgue Files (S1) (Case #2) Jeff the killer. It actually takes Jeff seriously and DOESN'T make him sympathetic in the slightest. Jeff looks completely different than any other Jeff out there.

For as laughably bad as the original 2012 story is, I’ve got to say that Jane The Killer is easily the worst addition to the whole J.T.K “mythos” if you even want to call it that, because all it did was pave the way for the sheer tidal wave of even shittier copy-cat creepypastas and characters for years on end, with Clockwork, Ticci Toby and Nina The Killer being the prime examples.

I think the story would've been better had it been centered around the picture. Think about it for a second-a picture that weird appears out of nowhere, with huge ass neon "Go to Sleep" letters and it never becomes relevant in the original story. You could make a story about a haunted file in which the thing in the photo comes to haunt you while you sleep, or that if you watch the picture, you'll be like the bodies hanging in the picture.

Did you never play Mortal Kombat? I guarantee that was the source of the name Liu, after Liu Kang.

It's genuinely infuriating how incredibly popular this used to be and, still is. It's writing is simply abhorrent, like when liu comes out with cuts on his arms, and shows the cops. There are so many issue in that particular moment alone for me to make this comment incredibly lengthy, but I'm way to lazy to type it all out. Point is, this story has potential, but ultimately, it's execution was so awful it sparked an entire sub genre of awful, awful stories.

I remember reading a creepypasta that, while the grammar was pretty awful and poor in vocabulary, it had a more interesting premise: A guy gets in his phone the picture of "Go To Sleep" from some mysterious sender, and a bunch of bizarre shit happens to him. Nowhere in the story anything related to Jeff's shitty mythos isn't even said, not even his name. It wasn't really good, but better than any of the Jeff the Killer stories.

When you review Happy Appy, please refer to the villain Forenzik as Shaquille S. Shaquille.

I personally think s better way for this would be to depict him as a shy and akwerd guy who ends up snapped becues of how hard his life becomes as his parents seems to only care about there own image.

The Jeff the killer story had a lot of potential but it was a very poorly written story full of plot holes and stuff that just doesn’t make sense. But at the same time it’s a guilty pleasure of mine because of how bad it is

Hell yeah, Bad Creepypasta is awesome. And my personal favorites are the Jeff the Killer episodes. It's so funny hearing Jacob's Jeff voice and them making fish face jokes.
