Something About Losing This Battle Just Feels Right

Спорт

After a great battle with @SHAWSTRENGTH I came second at The Shaw Classic. Something about losing this battle feels right.
It was an absolute honour to compete alongside Brian, join him for his last stone run and last-ever event as a strongman. I was lucky enough to have the best seat in the house to cheer him on for the final event of his legendary career.

@@dr.butttoot9512 Shaw Classic definently was not the triple crown before this because having the guy who organized in the comp is always gonna make people question its legitimacy, especially when he's never been out of the top 2. Also consider what mitch said about doing literal rope climbs earlier in the week lol, shaw classic just isnt at that level yet.

@@epiccabbage6530I think having shaw compete doesn't significantly reduce the legitimacy because 1. He's in the hall of Fame of the sport, so ofc he's going to do well. and 2. They're the same events we see in other shows. 3. There's no negative publicity from other competitors about it feeling rigged or being in Brian's favor unfairly.

Best PPV I've ever bought Great show I hope it continues to grow. You are a big part of the future of Strongman. I think you and Tom will be battling it out for years. Brian retiring on top was incredible to watch. I hope the prize money went up substantially from the PPVs and him giving back his winnings. I can see the Shaw Classic getting as big as WSM. If WSM doesn't adapt to modern social media and live streaming it will be passed by other events. Huge congratulations for your performance and 2nd place. Love the Dad hat you wore Congratulations it's the best job in the world. Wishing you nothing but the best for the future Heal up quickly and can't wait to see the next competition

Brian going out with a win AND the fact that the top prize money will now be split among all the other athletes (as he has done every year with his winnings at the SC) is the perfect way to wrap up and summarize his strongman career both as one of the best to ever do it, and inarguably the best ambassador for the sport that strongman has ever seen.

You know Mitch, i think you cleared something up for me, You said that you didn't come up having watched these other guys and the greats like Brian. And I realize it was probably not so much of a lack of respect on your part, but just that you hadn't yet fully gotten the scope of the magnitude of their accomplishments in the sport. All of that so say this, at first, when you started in the Sport (in my mind as a nobody) I was like, "who is this guy and why should he get to compete with the best when he is literally untested?" But I've come to like you and frankly, I think you are what this sports needs, someone who is a rapid rise and explosive athlete with massive power and potential. Good stuff Mitch!

After this year I see the Shaw Classic right behind WSM. WSM has the prestige and history but I think Shaw has the better show and it gets better every year. Its the heaviest competition and it really tests all strengths. There's no heats, everybody does the same events. Congrats on the performance it was such an epic show. Brian keeps taking the sport to new heights and I dont see that stopping any time soon.

It was one of the best events that I've watched. The lifts were heavy but its nice to see lifts that not everyone can do. It really showcases how impressive it is for the ones that do finish. I'd much rather see that, then all strongman finish quickly, and we have to see how fast they did it. The crowd was electric. You helping brian up the last step and raising his hand was such a great moment that i wont forget. It felt like a passing of the torch type of thing.

@@JamesWilliams-vq2er You're thinking about things in a basic way, one competition could have a farmers walk that is so light that every competitor is damn near sprinting with it, and another competition could have a farmers walk so heavy that every competitor is walking slowly with it, now with both farmers walks if people are able to get to the end of the walk, then points have no choice but to be given based on time, but one farmers walk is still clearly more about strength hence the walking, where as the other one is clearly a weak farmers walk hence the ability to run with it

@JamesWilliams-vq2er look at wsm. The truck pull had pretty much everyone finish relatively quick. So it wasn't how strong you are. It was how fast you do it. You can have a clock for things, but when everyone finishes, and finishes quick. It becomes less about speed

You did great Mitch, you and Brian battling it out reminds me of Big Z and Lalas in the 2014 final. Pretty close but Brian was just that bit stronger. And it was the best competition the strength world has ever seen overall with the other strength sports that were held in it, combined with the true, ultimate test of who is the strongest man on earth. I'm just mesmerized by how epic it is for Brian to end his strongman career being in his prime on the greatest win of his career or at least the greatest win to add to his career. This makes Brian the strongest man in history in my opinion. Nobody has reached their peak at 41 years of age, ever. With all those world records, 4 WSM wins, 1 Shaw Classic win, 3 Arnold wins and this Strongest Man on Earth title at 41 years of age. Brian is just something else for achieving this and organizing such an amazing competition.

I was at the show and it was epic. It was my first strongman show big fan of you and Brian so I was very excited that you guys kept going head to head. But I was most excited when Tom started going beast mode that was just crazy. Can’t wait for next year

Shaw Classic was amazing, especially the option to get an easy PPV, the great crowd and especially the focus on the athletes, e.g. Oleksii getting another chance, no time pressure, no stupid focus on ads. Looking forward to your performance at Rogue!

On August 19-20th of 2023 the new stars of strongman experienced what it was like to face Brian Shaw or Zydrunas Savickas in their primes of 2015/2016 and 2010-2012 respectively

Loved every minute. You have had a big year. I’m sure it’s been taxing. Watching your explosion through the events are a clear indication of your power. I think static strength is ultimately something you have no shortage of but can also improve tremendously. Utmost respect for you and how you handle yourself throughout comp and before and after. Much love from canada

Loved every minute of the event - got VIP tickets for this one, absolutely worth every penny. So much respect for Bobby Thompson who got injured on the first Atlas Stone and then pushed through all of day 2 anyways.

Watched it live online. It was one of the best events I’ve seen. Part of strongman IMO is supporting other strongmen and cheering them on. This isn’t seen much in other sports. I think winning is partly coming in the top ranks but also in how you cheer on and support the other athletes. 2nd at Shaw classic is incredible but for sure you won 1st in cheering and supporting the athletes and the sport. I loved watching you and Brian duke it out! Reminder me of Brian and Big Z duking it out.

Congrats, Mitch. Brian has been my favorite strongman for many many years. It is safe to say, Mitch Hooper has now taken that mantle for me (and I would imagine, so many other fans of the sport). A gentleman, a monster athlete, a winner.
