Solving Inequalities: Solving and Graphing One-Step and Multi-Step Inequalities | ASVAB & PiCAT

In this video, I discuss how to solve and graph inequalities, including one-step and multi-step inequalities. As it happens, solving inequalities is a topic that frequently appears in the Mathematics Knowledge subtest of both the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) as well as the Pre-screening internet-delivered Computer Adaptive Test (PiCAT). In addition, I work out ten practice test questions that should closely mirror what you should see on the ASVAB or PiCAT. In order to get the most from this video, you should pause the video after I read a practice test question, attempt to work out the practice test question on your own, and then resume playing the video to check your solution.

The bulk of your studying should be for Math Knowledge and Arithmetic Reasoning. Otherwise, you might overwhelm yourself. For question #4, why wouldn't the signs flip if you're multiplying fractions?

    Literally, at 2:01 in the video, I said this: "When you multiply or divide across the inequality sign by a negative, change the direction of the inequality sign."

    Some videos have to be long, because all of the topics are related to each other. For instance, when I reviewed fractions, I wanted to cover all of those topics at once. You’re welcome!

    I have a question, why don’t we change the direction of the sign on problem 4 when we used division and multiplication?

  • @GrammarHero

    @GrammarHero

    You only change it when you multiply or divide across the inequality sign by a negative. You can add and subtract all you want. For question 4, we did not divide or multiply across the inequality by a negative, so there was no need to change the direction of the sign.

    Why didn't #6 flip if we divided at the end?

    You only flip, when you multiple or divide across the inequality by a negative. That was stated at the beginning and throughout the video.
