Perfect Squares, Square Roots, and Simplifying Radicals: 3 ASVAB/PiCAT Practice Questions

In this video, I discuss what you need to know about perfect squares, square roots, and simplifying radicals for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) as well as the Pre-screening internet-delivered Computer Adaptive Test (PiCAT). In addition, I work out three practice test questions that should closely mirror what you should see on the ASVAB or PiCAT. In order to get the most from this video, you should pause the video after I read a practice test question, attempt to work out the practice test question on your own, and then resume playing the video to check your solution.

The bulk of your studying should be for Math Knowledge and Arithmetic Reasoning. Otherwise, you might overwhelm yourself. That said, you can check out Union Test Prep's free practice tests and study guides for the topics I don't regularly cover on my channel, including Auto and Shop Information, Electronics Information, General Science, and Mechanical Comprehension. One question about the second example 300. My first guess would of been to do 150 * 2. Why did you use 100 * 3 to get 300? I haven’t used this type of math in a decade so it’s like I’m seeing it for the first time. Thanks for your videos! Been taking practice tests and I’ve been improving each time!

The quickest way to reduce radicals is by using the largest perfect square possible and another number. Since 150 is not a perfect square, it doesn't help you reduce the radical. Why use it?

Just figured it out. Need that perfect square which is why 100 * 3 works and not 150 * 2. 👍🏽
