Solving Algebraic Equations Containing Decimals (Deal with Decimals & Clear of Decimals)

I solve twelve equations, the last two of which involve clearing of decimals prior to solving. It may be helpful to frequently pause the video, especially right before I start a new problem, to try to anticipate the first step. (You should already be familiar with how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with decimals, as well as how to solve equations that do not have decimals.)

A little bit confused since my teacher teaches me that you need to get rid of the decimal before solving. What should I do. I have a test tomorrow and I am trying to study up on these.

Clearing of decimals is always an option. I use that method on the last two equations, starting at about the 17 minute mark. You could work along with those two, then go back and try that method on 1 through 10. You should always get the same answer. I hope this suggestion is helpful.

MrB4math thanks, I just wanted to be sure that if I cleared the decimals that it wouldn’t be wrong!

21:00 Why did you multiply with four 100s, yet add with two 500xs only? Shouldn’t you multiply with one 100 only on each side as well? Obviously you shouldn’t. The question is why? Thank you sir!

Good observation, the deal is that whenever you multiply or divide you have to multiply or divide everything on each side of the equal sign. The only exception is if terms are in parentheses.
