Solo Wildcamp | Alpkit Soloist | Bewcastle Fells.

This my 2nd camp of the year but back on the Bewcastle Fells this time looking for new places to camp , I found two places one on middle crag and one down by the stream below these crags. It was a cold frosty night as the skies cleared and frost started biting, but still managed a few night shots .

Nights are drawing out a bit more now thankfully and even lighter int mornings. Some nice night shots in there as well.atb Mark.

    Enjoyed it, as always Dave. You could possibly try putting the foam mat on top of the inflatable one, with the foil facing up, it might help reflect your body heat a bit better. Failing that, I can't recommend the Neoair X-therm enough. I'm a cold sleeper and have never felt cold on it, in fact you can feel the heat coming back off it. TYFS ATB Jiffy 👍🏻

I sent it back for a refund because I found it a bit cramped and struggled to find somewhere for my bag to go. I liked the colour, weight, pack size, cost and customer service is good. I briefly went back to my ionosphere, which is a longer tent with just enough room for my pack, before buying my newish vango tent. atb, owen 👍

    Beautiful location, and brilliant night video, just stunning. I have to ask, why do you sleep with the silver side down? As you are probably aware I sleep on nothing but a foam mat like that but it has no silver on it. So I use a summer (sun...whatever that is) reflective windscreen shield, silver side up. I find the silver reflects my body heat back at me adding a little to my warmth. You aren't the first I've seen do this. Foil absorbs the cold it doesn't reflect it.

    Wonder if I can trouble you for some advice. I've been trying to find an ultralite tent that will suit my needs for the last few weeks and have narrowed it down to the Alpkit Soloist and the SMD Lunar Solo. I've seen that you have both of these tents and wondered if you could aid my decision. I'm looking for a bit of an all rounder but do have a banshee 200 to get me through the winter months so would settle for something that's more 2 season. Shedding weight is my main issue but I'm concerned about the amount of bad press the SMD tent gets for condensation. Also, it would need to be pretty weather harder for UK conditions, I'm heading up to Skye for a 10 day trek later this year and would want the new tent to get me through that. Massive thanks in advance if you get the chance to help me out here!

  • @BorderRambler

    @BorderRambler

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thats a difficult one Josh , but if it was me I would be taking the smd lunar solo because it has loads more room than the soloist and if you are tent bound at least you can cook better in the porch of the smd and also more room to move about .. the lunar solo needs a bigger pitch as its footprint is larger than the soloist but yeah you do at times get condensation but I always carry an absorbent cloth to wipe it down in the morning. The lunar solo is also lighter than the solist , have you not looked at the lanshan 1 which is based on the lunar solo but has an inner ?? Real sound advice, I did look at the lanshan 1 for a while but couldn't help thinking the price must be too good to be true, does it hold up as well as the lunar solo?
