Solo Trail Ride | Sussex & Hampshire

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I'm very lucky to have some great mates who are bikers, so always have people I can ride with. Sometimes it is nice to just get out on the trails solo, by myself though for that head clearing therapy it can offer.
On this ride I head west from Coldwaltham over to West Meon up over the downs and along a lot of Stane Street which is an ancient Roman Road.
The ride started off very sloppy, and ended pretty sloppy too, but was great fun and I really enjoyed the challenge of the slop and a good climb too which can also be tricky.
Bike of choice for this ride was my Beta 390RR enduro bike, which reminds me every time I ride it, just how very good it is. I just wish it had better road manners and a more mileage friendly engine... but then it just wouldn't be as good on the trails!
Please do also check out my other socials too, I often upload bonus videos to them directly that you'll not see on the KZread! :-)

    You were really in the Shuck a lot in this one, Pete! That bush jumped out at you - totally the guilty party in that off! Nice turn-around - that certainly was a spot where you would have been in deep doo-doo on the Aprilia!

    I remember when you did that lane on the Toerag! 🤣 It feels like only a month or so ago. That back wheel hooked up really well on the tree. Loads of people would be sat their spinning for ages. Good smooth job.

    Yeah it is weird how time has passed but not passed. I'd not have gotten the Tuareg through the first lane on this visit. Thankfully the wood was not too wet, so no wheel spin... but a bit more momentum was needed to get over it clean.

    I think that my trail tomorrow will be a lot less squelchy and a bit more motorway-like 😬 But that’s the beauty of trying new trails. You can’t know what to expect and if it does get tough, I’m feeling up for the challenge. I’m really excited for tomorrow !!! Nice to see that even Hippo-Drones has a “trail of death” too ! For me, watching you ride in all that mud is just crazy. Give me sand any day🤠. Holy crap that pond at the end would have had me walking it. Man I hate mud. About the closest thing we have to the chalk, from how you describe it, is grey clay. It is very fine and slick when wet but very hard when dry. Then we have the red clay which is about as slick but it's really sticky and oddly enough, it will turn your tires blue. Yeah I remember you turning the T Reg around on that hill, I was getting tired along with you. Pssst, learning pivot turns come in really handy😂. Hey you got er turned around though.

  • @HippoDrones

    @HippoDrones

    I love it like this, sloppy, but not too tricky... I'd probably hate it if I liked my bikes being clean though 😀 Thankfully we don't have a huge amount of clay near us, but know I'll get caught out on some when visiting different areas in the UK, it cn be mega tiring getting through it if you get stuck hey... def hope I'm on the Beta rather than the ToeRag when I find it! 😀 I really wish I'd turned it around sooner than I did, I was thinking it was too steep to do so, but I'd have gotten it done with a lot less effort than I wasted pushing the bike backwards down the lane.

    @@HippoDrones Hey that’s another reason i like sand, it’s so much easier to wash off😆. It’s crazy to see the amounts of inclement weather you ride in. The stuff we shy away from is just another day for you and the lot over there who ride, both on and off road.

    Great video. Being a solo rider, if you got stuck or got into situation you need to send an emergency SOS, what do you have to get yourself rescue, what tools do you carry, if you got a tyre issue or some thing similar, any info would be useful if you share your tools kit details & SOS remidies. I am preparing a to buy to list for myself. Also how do you plan your route, what factors do you take into account, safety, continuity, leasure, challenge, adventure length of route or just a ride out.

    WOW, lots of questions, not sure I can answer them all, but thank you... In the UK, we seldom are without signal on our phones for long, weirdly I have worse signal at my local international airport than I do on a lot of our trails, so I would use my phone if I got in a situation I needed help. If however I was injured and couldn't get to my phone, luckily our green lane network is also used by horse riders, dog walkers and ramblers, so unless riding at night, we would generally get help quite quickly unless we were catapulted off the trail into the woodland/shrubbery. I carry a basic tool kit that allows me to do trail spannering. No point having more than that as if I break down badly, I have recovery that will get me home as long as I can get to the end of a trail. My ADV bike has tubeless tyres, and my Beta has TUbliss fitted, so if I get a puncture I can fix it with a plug kit, I bring an air compressor with me so I can get air in the tyres if needed, but the Beta can run on flats thanks to the TUbliss system, so I am less concerned on that bike. Regarding planning routes, I use the OS App and OS mapping on my PC to plan my rides, it isn't perfect, but does the job, possibly switching apps later in the year when my subscription runs out with OS. Every ride is different, some days I want a challenge, others I want easy. Sometimes I'm on my ADV, others my enduro bike... so I plan routes for the ride. Hope that helps answer your questions.
