First Moto Camp '24 | Wiltshire Trails | Aprilia Tuareg 660

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Well here it is people, our first moto-camping trip of 2024. ‪@BigPezza‬ organised for us to head down to Wiltshire, camp a couple of nights and to explore some of the green lanes and trails down there and on the Salisbury Plains. As per usual with a Big_Pezza trip, it wasn't all smooth sailing and there were breakdowns and some guesswork as to where we were going, but all in all it was an incredible weekend, with bonus aurora borealis due so a solar storm, which I tried to record, but it didn't come out very well sadly.
I can't wait for our next trip, although I am sure Pez and ‪@Phil480‬ will be hoping I come in the van due to my now legendary snoring!

Very jealous Pete! Great trip away moto-camping, and fantastic weather. Nice to see some new trails - as you say, plenty more down there than in your neck of the woods. We're so spoiled here, we can pitch tents 50 metres apart for the snoring, and I rarely go on a ride that doesn't include a trail that's new to me! It is weird how we can lose the off-road riding feel so easily - happens to me all the time, and often the first 10 - 15 minutes off the tar are a bit nervous. Ruts mate, unless you're some desert racing legend cruising at 150K/Hr (too fast for the bike to fall over) they are ALWAYS likely to put us on our asses!! Enjoyed the video mate, cheers!

It was so good to get away, got another trip next month too, but I think I'll be doing my own thing once there altghough still camping with the others. No trail riding on that one, just playing in the Welsh mountains 🙂 I do wish I had more trails I could easily get to around my local area, but it is what it is... thankfully I enjoy road riding! 😀 Yeah, that skill fade kicks in fast... I can fake it a bit on my Beta as that is so forgiving, but an ADV bike really makes it a lot more effort when I am not riding well. Thanks David, hopfully will be some varied content coming now the weather is improving for us 🙂

You picked a great weekend for it! Nice you caught the Aurora! The first night of camping on a trip is always an average sleep I feel. As much fun as it seems going through large puddles, you never know just how sharp those edges are going to be or how deep it is! Good idea to be cautious! Looks like some awesome trails and how cool is the Barge Inn! Proper quaint English! Love it! Oh yeah, we have military firing areas around here too (jungle warfare training area) but it's all fenced and if you get caught in there, you are going to be in trouble even if you don't get shot! What a brilliant trip away! That looked like it had all the elements of a memorable weekend!

It was a cracker mate 🙂and yeah, what a fantastic surprise bonus 🙂 I have not been sleeping well recently, need to get to a Dr TBH, but getting an appointment in the UK is a joke currently. Hahaha... yeah, and out on the Salisbury Plains, there are absolute bike killers... it is the army playground and they do tank exercises there which eats into the soft ground with their tracks 😀 I do love the names of some of the pubs we have in the UK, I imagine the Aus humour has seen some good names over your side of the pond? 🙂 The only downside was Phils CRF being broken, and Pezza's breakdown, but at least he now knows what the issue is and is fixing it before our next adventure 🙂

@@HippoDrones I have been hearing a lot about how hard it is to get a Dr's appointment over there. We have the odd interesting named pub, but most in country towns are very boring, The Commercial, The Royal, The Exchange etc or just named after the town they're in.

I actually like manual transmissions, at least for cars where I don't need to tow anything. I remember people being surprised because they thought Americans 'can't drive stick', which isn't true for most of us. When you grow up shifting with your right hand, however, making the switch was the hardest thing for me. Also those tight sunken roads in the country where there would be no where to go if another car didn't stay in their lane. Love the UK though. Keep up your good work.

Just wanted to respond to a comment you made about being restricted on where you can ride in the UK. I live in Maine in the US (I have spent about 7 months living in the UK) and we are much more restricted for offroad riding where I live despite all the nature because of zoning. There is a huge amount of hiking, but not for motorcycles. Interestingly if you have a snowmobile or ATV there are more trails you can use, but motorcycles are often specifically excluded. You are more fortunate in the UK than you know.
