SOLITUDE - living ALONE

Фильм және анимация

The world is more connected than it's ever been before. We can communicate instantly with our friends and family who live miles apart, thanks to the power of social media. And yet... why do so many of us still feel lonely?
Feeling lonely is a normal human experience - it is something we all go through. And it's not simply a function of being alone. You can feel lonely in a crowd. Because loneliness is a feeling of being alienated from others, not feeling understood or connected - it’s a feeling that something is missing.
But loneliness is also a message that our body sends us, letting us know that we are important, and we need to become friends with ourselves again. When we feel isolated or alone, we can choose to have compassion for ourselves. We can recognise our emotions without judging them. When we accept where we are at and what we are struggling against, without berating ourselves, we can then begin to change.
In order to defeat loneliness, we have to listen to its message - You are complete, nobody is needed, you are enough!

Who is Reflections of Life? We are Justine and Michael (previously known as Green Renaissance). We use our passion for filmmaking and our love of storytelling, to remind our audience of one simple truth - that we are all human. The more that we understand and believe in this interconnectedness, the more we will treat ourselves, one another, and planet earth with a greater sense of compassion.

30+ years of it. But because of this, I accomplished a lot due to my own personal training, hard work, resilience, intelligence, and inability to allow others to disrespect me for more than a moment. Besides... what is most important is none of this terrestrial, non-sequitur nonsense. When you're about to cross beyond the void veil--when that moment surely arrives... Reflect carefully. "Before I start, I must see my end. Destination known, my mind's journey now begins. Upon my chariot, heart and soul's fate revealed. In time, all points converge, hope's strength resteeled. But to earn final peace at the universe's endless refrain, we must see all in nothingness... before we start again." --Diamond Dragons (Armageddon's Ballad) 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨

I identify with Johann. I believe we are ultimately alone in life, especially as we contemplate its end. I live on my own through my past choices and decisions. But when I experience something beautiful in Nature and I long to share that joy with someone else, that is when I feel lonely. I just have to say to myself "Be thankful for this moment, for the incredible opportunity to join in the dance of the Cosmos, and be a living thing among the countless others our precious Mother Earth supports". It's enough.

I also live alone in nature. Wanting to share it got me into more than one messy predicament. Now I'm enjoying a thunderstorm in the screen porch. Sending video clips to my sons. The worst loneliness is with someone there. Being at the far end of life, as our artist says, is worth regular contemplation.

There's a long long way to go still. Don't worry my friend, One good day, you will find what you're looking for? The other group of rest of the world doesn't realize that fact because some of them are living in a deep sleep state and some of them are enjoying life like living in a dream state. Everyone on the planet is alone and lonely in fact but few have been awakened from sleep state and do feel themselves misfits in the fake world around them. This might be the purpose of living a spiritual life but the process of awakening is very painful. Only few can hold the courage to choose. In the end they are the lucky ones. Thanks if you understand my point of view.

I love the metaphor of swimming in the world. I embrace my alone-ness because so much of the world was a cesspool in which I was mired. There are crystal streams to be witnessed if you look for them. But I am a terrestrial creature. From the Earth to which I will return. All things outside of my body are not part of me, but the universe which surrounds me. It is like looking up into the starfield of the galaxy. Beauty to behold and befriend, but we will never touch.

@@haid9063When he said "naked I was born..." he was quoting from the book of Job 1.21. When he said "Do to others as you would have done to yourself" he is quoting the Gospels (the so-called golden rule) and when he says love is the bottom line he is qoting the great commandment from the gospels and that great hymn to love - 1 Corinthians 13. His idea of renunciation as we age certainly echoes the Hindu Sanyasi and his love of solitude the eremetic life of the desert fathers.

I've lived with chronic depression for 20 years as a result of experiences from a career in forensic science/law enforcement. There is a difference between solitude and being content, compared to being alone with an empty life. I can manage the dark times due to the company of my labradors. They are more human than dog, they sense my feelings and moods, they treat me better than most humans have. Their love and loyalty knows no bounds. They taught me patience, the simple pleasures of life and to be at peace with myself. I now enjoy pursuing my interests and always have them by my side. Life is what you make of it. Do the things YOU enjoy, everything else falls into place.

My soul was lost, scared, confused & in darkness my whole life. I decided I needed to do some DEEP SOUL SEARCHING & IMPROVE MYSELF in every way possible. I’m so proud of myself….i started when I was 24 and something in me sky rocketed when 26 and now at 28 my soul is free and I set up my life in a certain way that allows me to have a car, studio apartment, dog, food, everything I really need and some extra for life. Thing is, to everyone around me im a loser…but to me….im my own hero. I beat this thing that kept me trapped in myself. No one understands. I’m incredibly resilient to the opinions of others but at times it takes its toll. I may not have a lot of money but I’m pursuing art to become an artist and develop a clothing brand that speaks to people’s souls and help them like I helped mine. Idk. May be stoopid but my heart says this is it. Just full throttle ahead. Worse comes to worse, we’ll pick up a trade job and have a family later on in life or maybe a realtor but Idc about money. I care about life. I finally got mine back. A lot of trauma as a kid. Idk where I was going with this. I guess I’m just venting. Peace & love from a human in NY, JR

How he explains our mental awareness, our fragility; "adrift on the ocean, there's land ahead.." i love that. He says he has reached an age, i am 65 yrs & feel sorrow that, right now, i 'm not sharing my life , and years of questioning wisdom that could help a male partner, an ageing man full of life's experience. He gives us a truly wonderful attitude to life, very honest and gentle, which is a quality that draws me to a man. Hi, I was recommended to you by an artist. I must say that at 75 I have finally found true happiness. I moved next door to my daughter and the grandchildren are popping in and out unannounced. At first I felt some frustration because I have lived alone for the past 30 yrs, but now I miss their comings and goings on weekends when they’re busy with sports and friends. Let me tell you, it’s only now that I realize how terribly lonely I had been prior to my moving here. Pets and children are pure of heart and give unconditional love, in my humble opinion they are our best teachers. That said, I love my mornings when I’m free to be alone with my paintbrushes.

I was terrified of it for so long that it became my reality. I've now reached a point where being alone is my sacred space. I cherish it and love it with all my heart. I enjoyed listening to his man speak about the important things. If I may share my humble opinion, I think this could have been much more powerful if you had included his personal story (where did he come from, what has his life been like? married? kids? etc) to add the story element that really brings the spark of relationality to the philosophical musings. Perhaps a follow-up video with this man? That would be wonderful!

@jennyjenny3531 - Thanks for the thoughts and suggestion. While we do agree that there is always value in knowing more and understanding more - there is also a beauty in a degree of anonymity about lifes personal details - without knowing too much about his personal story, it allows us to all see a bit of ourselves in him, so regardless of my personal situation and how it may differs to his, the story still carries relevance, without letting the details get in the way. But I do also see your point of view - so to include a little more personal info is something that we'll consider going forward :) Warm hugs and best wishes to you for a happy week ahead. I have been for most of my 73 years quite sociable, love a chat over a coffee or glass of wine, a political or philosphical discussion, and yet I love solitude, being alone, having no list of things to do or a time to be somewhere, no people needing to be spoken to or entertained in some way. I have no idea what loneliness feels like, I have never experienced it! No longer with any living family I thought I may be introduced to loneliness but 7 years has not seen that happen. Gratitude I have a plenty :)

Great man, to admire. I live a very solitary life, mostly by choice. It makes me feel calm to hear and see this man, since i crave meeting, being with people like him, but i still havent met them where i live. I am thankfull to know and see, they exist. It takes the loneliness that i feel at times, away.

Thank You for this🌻...everything (everything!) you said has been in my head for so long and when I heard this, tears of relief came forward. Often, society is not prepared to talk about the inevitability of death. I think of it and believe I want to prepare for the event in the same way I prepared for the birth my children. It seems both are connected and sacred. Listening to this helped me realize it is not odd to feel a sense of joy about Death. For now, I am well...more than well after watching this; whenever and until my time comes...I will keep this to watch and enjoy later...and later....and later....until "my boat reaches land".

As a dog lover, I understand what you're getting at, but I think ir's not true. The exchange of language and ideas with human or co-species is far different from the company a dog offers. If you think a dog offers this, then you're anthropomorphising;, and imagining other meanings thst are not there. No ethologist would agree. Or, your human interactions are impoverished if a dog can so easily replace them In Western history and art, the dog is depicted usually as guard for security, or to symbolise faithfulness of the sort humans are not capable. But for me, convincing is the Ancient Greek philosopher Diogenes (around 300BC) who essentially "wrote the book" on living a solitudinous life, yet is always depicted with his trademark dogs. It's an archetype. Similarly, the Christian cave hermits movement around 500 AD did not banish the animals. I live alone and have done for the past 55years, but I have a dog. Each year in the Spring 2 blackbirds arrive back here to take up their usual Summer residence in the tree by my window, and I greet them with joy and welcome them home. So you would say I'm not living alone. I should get rid of the dog and chase the birds away? No, because this is-about withdrawing from human society, not banishing the animals from your life. The lonely goatherd is nevertheless 'lonely'.

I only recently discovered this channel, and of the video that I have watched, this is the one I like best. He goes to the heart of the problem, when he says the trick is to find the right people, people who help, not hinder us. People do not come with a clear and helpful synopsis which can help us to determine who it is beneficial to be around and who should be avoided like the plague. No, we have to spend precious time getting to know someone, and they us, to know if a friendship, or any other relationship, is positive or negative. Throughout my life, I have had many relationships where, at the onset, someone seems charming intelligent, kind, all the desireable traits, only later, to discover what is behind the mask, and it's not pretty. Part of this, for my part, I attribute to not being always the best judge of characters, but at other times, it is because of factors beyond my ability to perceive. That is what has led me to be a quasi hermit; I still go out and interact with people, but only in polite and superfical ways (the employees at my favorite coffee shops, bookstores and art supplie stores). It is very sad that there is truth to the old saying, " Familiarity breeds contempt." I think that sustaining relationships are possible, but rare, because we each and everyone of us is so caught up in our own sorrows, drowning in our private seas, stumbling around in the dark (I apologize for my propensity for florid metaphors), that real connects, of deep and nurting nature, are difficult to establish.

When we see a video has been uploaded by GR, our hearts soar and we settle in to what we know will add to the quality of our lives and our growth as individuals. Such gifts you capture and share with us. We were moved by this man’s simple but powerful phrase …. “We each feel loneliness.” And in our acceptance of that reality, there is an ironic beauty of found-togetherness. We are grateful for this reminder. Even in our moments and times of feeling abject loneliness, we can reflect on our shared loneliness and let that be like many warm arms to embrace us. I'm always alone, but never lonely. I feel for people who are lonely, but it's something I've never experienced. I occasionally value shared experiences with fellow humans, but never crave, or seek out company. Be-ing *alone* is my default setting and I can't imagine anything different. If I could go back in time I'd probably choose *not* to be alone - just to compare the alone/not-alone experience as a lived experiment. ❤
