Be an officer. Enroll in ROTC to earn a commission. Officers are treated way better than enlisted soldiers. If you can suck up four years of college indoctrination, the return on investment is ENORMOUS as an officer. Most cadets are getting one of their top branches these days (infantry, armor, aviation... those are branches). You have a more personal relationship with your branch manager, and you can influence change in your organization. However, enlisted soldiers are at the whim of the Army for most of their careers, at least until they pin E-7 or E-8. Pick a super cheap college, like Black Hills State, Winona State, or Chadron State.... or some other cheap state university. Their ROTC programs are excellent, and you can get a scholarship through ROTC that will cover tuition, or possibly even allow you to pocket a little cash if you use the stipend, rather than the tuition & fees option. You can apply on an ROTC scholarship during senior year of high school (until mid February). But, you can also apply on campus.

The thing is... there is alot of theft so how do you counter that? You make it harder to steal. That's fine. But the problem some in the military have is that they are not able to account for equipment that was left behind in time of war, attack, retreat or FOB theft. So they go after the last one assigned the stuff. BUT the good news is you can have this overturned. My son served and this happened to him when he was asked to provide the stuff given to him but he was air lifted from war site so he didn't know what happened to it. We had to write letters, emails and make calls to get it straightened out. Some have to go to court to get the money back if it's directly removed from a deposit account. But this is the process - because of theft

This is a problem of the American people not paying attention when they vote. Ask any 20 random people, not your friends and family, random people, where their politician stands on the Patriot Act, or the VA and then look at the politicians actual voting record. Those 20 people will either say they don't know, or will just be wrong. Until we start voting with actual facts and logic, this will continue. We returned from Afghanistan and processed thru Ft Bliss for turn in, physicals, etc. Ft Bliss had us, our entire company, put all gear in shopping carts and put them in big storage building to do turn in later they they would take care of. About three months later we are having a big layout inspection and our supply people told us we were missing gear and had to pay. Statements were taken, investigation done and no one had to pay anything.
