  • @Manu-et9rj
    @Manu-et9rj4 жыл бұрын

    It's 1 point for each goal, 1 point for each assist. And just so you get a feelig of how many points a night is alot, the record for points in a season is held by Wayne Gretzky and stands at 215 points in 80 games. (over 2.5 points a game) Last season, Nikita Kucherov scored 128 points in 82 games and nobody had scored this many points in a season in over 20 years. This season Connor McDavid and his teammate Leon Draisaitl are leading the NHL in points. Leon Draisaitl is on pace for 126 points in 82 games and McDavid is on pace for 121 points in 82 games. Basically, if you can score over a point per game in the NHL, you're considered a very good player. If you're a defenseman it's different because obviously you score less but I'm not gonna get into that lol.

    Adam, as an Oilers fan, I can say that McDavid will never be the Goat, but he will be a GOAT. He is, however, THE BEST player of his generation.

    You need to react to his injury from last year, and the method he took to recover. It was an insane amount of damage to his leg, which needed surgery, but that would mean he would be missing the the whole following (this) season. His mindset to rehabilitate himself and fully recuperate, making it back in time for the season is out of this world.

    The Oilers have actually struggled for most of McDavid’s tenure in Edmonton. They’ve only been to the playoffs once, although they have a good chance of getting in this season. In hockey it’s difficult for one player to singlehandedly carry a team, unless they’re a goalie. Typically a team’s top forward will only be on the ice for maybe a third of the game, with a top defenseman being closer to half the game.

    Old school amateur Canadian hockey player\ex-coach chiming in. The way Mcdavid finds space is based on his mastery of understanding player posturing and skating momentum ( I can't think of better terms to describe these skills). When on skates a player's ability to transfer momentum is diminished. It takes longer to accelerate, change direction or decelerate/stop. The ability to read physical movements a player makes including things like which skate he shifts his weight to, where he is looking, his skating posture ( ie: is he going to slow down to cover the pass or speed up and cover the lead man) is a part of something called Hockey Sense. The nature of moving on skates makes it more difficult to change direction and momentum. It takes readable body movements and time (granted in fractions of a second) to shift course at high speeds. The great players have the ability (whether innate or learned) to read these signs in hundredths of a second and react. Mcdavid definitely has magnificent speed and acceleration. What sets him apart is his ability to know where his opponents and teammates will be .85 seconds from now, process that information in a nanosecond and then apply his amazing physical skills to find the gaping seam through the opponent's defense. Similar to Gretzky, it's his ability to read the play as much as skill or athletic ability.

    This is his 5th season in the league and has participated in the playoff once. His team is currently on track to qualify to the playoff this year. Since the 2006-2007 season the Edmonton Oilers have only participated in the playoff in 2016-2017 and lost in the quarterfinals. That's once in 13 years, though the futur looks good. It's too early to tell if he will be the GOAT, but he has potential, but he will need to win some championships to be in the running for the title. Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr, Maurice Richard, Sidney Crosby all need to be in that conversation

    Oven Chicken is actually on a tear right now too, chasing after the all-time goalscoring record (AKA Gretzky's record). On Tuesday night, The Capitals were down 2-1 to the L.A. Kings (who are shit right now, so very bad) with 6 minutes left in the game. 4 minutes and 13 seconds later Oven Chicken had scored a hat trick to win the game in regulation. That put him at 698 career goals. He has also had three hat tricks in his last 6 games. As soon as he hits 700 goals, he will become only the eighth player in NHL history to do so. Three days prior to the game against L.A., in a game against the Ottawa Senators, Oven chicken scored his 695th goal to take 8th spot of all-time NHL goalscorers away from Mark Messier, an absolute legend and teammate of Gretzky's. Oven chicken is easily going to get to number 3 spot, which is currently occupied by another very "oven chicken" type of player Jaromir Jagr with 766 career goals. Oven Chicken is 34 years old and has 40 goals so far this season and is 196 goals away from breaking Gretzky's record of 894 career goals. He could easily play for another 4 seasons at least before his production starts to decline.

    McDavid has a few things going for him. He's got great speed. Being able to blow past the defenders as he does is not something a lot of players can do. He's got very good hands: he's very good at handling the puck and definitely has good touch around the net. He's tall, which is great for being to keep the puck away from other players. He probably can move the puck about 3 meters from his extreme left to his extreme right or vice versa. That's a great thing when you're playing " keep-away" It's also great when you're trying to fake out the goalie. The trick is not to lose the puck when you make those moves, but he's an excellent stickhandler. He's currently #2 in the league for points (which is 1 point for a goal and 1 point for an assist. They award an assist to the last two players to handle the puck before the scorer. If the adversary had the puck and only 1 teammate touched the puck since the other team had it, the only award 1 assist. If the opposing team haad the puck and the scorer took it away from the other team, they only give the point to the scorer, so you don't always see two assists on the scoresheet. The Oilers are currently in the middle of the pack in terms of how they are doing this year. I think it's far too soon to talk about him as GOAT. There would be a lot of Gretzky and Mario Lemieux fans who would argue that point. I would be one of them.

    You need to learn more about Gretzky, beyond his grainy video highlights! The team Wayne Gretzky played on at age six was otherwise composed of 10-year-olds. His first coach remarked that he handled the puck better than the 10-year-olds, saying "Wayne was so good that you could have a boy of your own who was a tremendous hockey player, and he'd get overlooked because of what the Gretzky kid was doing". By age 10 Gretzky had scored an astonishing 378 goals and 139 assists in just one season with the Brantford Nadrofsky Steelers. By age 13, he had scored over 1,000 goals. His play attracted considerable negative attention from other players' parents, including those of his teammates, and he was often booed. When Gretzky was 14, he played Junior B hockey with the Toronto Nationals, in a league that included 20-year-olds. He earned Rookie of the Year honours in the Metro Junior B Hockey League in 1975-76, with 60 points in 28 games. The following year, as a 15-16-year-old, he had 72 points in 32 games with the same team, renamed the Seneca Nationals.

    So, in hockey they play the front of the net much like soccer players make runs through the center, near and far post when a cross comes into the box. Think of a hockey redirect goal as either a flick or header from a cross, the major difference (aside from the sticks and puck and shit) being that in hockey players will try to shield the goalie's vision for better angles on outside shots, as opposed to leaving the center open until they make a run. In hockey, runs are called "charges" and the goalie's area is called the "crease", fyi. Glad you're a full on hockey fan now
