    Just to let you know, McDavid just scored one of the best all time goals in NHL history, this past Friday night against the New York Rangers. He was able to use his quickness and stick handling to get past 4 Ranger players, and then beat their goalie. Incredible. You will be floored!!!

    What makes the top goal even more impressive is that was his first game back from injury after missing 3 months with a broken clavicle. It was also his rookie season which is crazy because it shows he’s been dominating like that since the second he stepped in the league as an 18 year old playing against grown men in such a physical sport

    For reference to how many goals players get in a season (82 games): 30 goals is only reached by one of the top players on teams 40 goals is only reached by a few players each year 50 goals is only reached by maybe 1 player a year if not every couple years (mainly just ovechkin lol) 60 goals has only been reached by 2 players since 1996 So as you can see 4 goals in a game is very impressive

    McDavid's unique skill, what makes him so great compared to every other player of his era, is his speed - not just his skating speed, but his ability to handle the puck at speed. There are a few players in the league that are probably as fast as McDavid in a dead sprint, but nobody else can handle the puck going that fast. A common thing you might see about other players is that they "overskate" the puck, or go so fast they accidentally leave it behind. McDavid doesn't do that.

    To put it in perspective the draft hype was so high on this kid from the age of 13 that in his draft year, teams openly tanked for a 25% chance to draft him. He's a generational talent and as a Canucks fan I wish he played in a different division.

    I hate player comparisons, but if I were to compare them, I think McDavid is probably more comparable to Crosby than Ovechkin. Ovechkin is more a pure "sniper" and has more physicality to his game, whereas McDavid and Crosby rely more on their skating abilities, puck control, and offensive creativity. I think McDavid and Crosby are better at setting up their teammates too than Ovechkin is.

    He is the best in the NHL today. The tossing of caps is done when a player scores a hat trick (get it? hats for a hat trick). Last season, he had 105 points in 56 games played (a normal full season is 82 games). He put up almost 1.5 pts a game (goals and assists are counted as points for a player). This pts per game average hasn't been done since the 90's when Marion Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr were averaging that many pts. per game (who both played for Pittsburgh Penguins, considered some of the best players not named Gretzky). He has multiple Hart Trophies (MVPs) and Art Ross trophies (scoring titles) and he's only played 5 season, a couple of them he was injured and missed a lot of games. He's the best player right now, with skills comparable to Lemieux, Gretzky, Ovechkin and Crosby, and some would say better than anyone not named Gretzky.

    In regards to a good goal amount, a three-goal game in the NHL is actually referred to as a hat-trick as well. Not that long ago a player by the name of Mika Zibanejad scored five of his team's six goals of the game. You should react to that video. It's one of the view instances in the NHL where a player has scored more than four goals in a game.

    Yeah, a "hat trick" is kind of the benchmark of a great game. The record is seven goals, set back in 1920. Hat tricks are pretty rare, relatively speaking. The record is 10 in a season, and that was Gretzky twice (the years he set the record for goals in a season and 2nd most goals in a season....it was also a different era of hockey where goal scoring was much higher than it is now). Auston Matthews, who led the league in goals in 2020-21, had 41 in 52 games, so I would say a little less than a goal a game would put a player on the elite levels of goal scoring. A goal a game would put you at near-record paces.

    Hi Kabir... I would say that a good goal scorer in the NHL would expect to score 1 or 2 goals in a regular season game. Getting 3 goals (a hat trick) is not unheard of but it is an accomplishment if a player can do it. I think it would be fair to say that hat tricks are not frequent, but they are able to be seen from time to time. With reference to your question about an "own goal", that happens more than you might think because of the speed of the game and the puck, and a bounce here or there. In the NHL, the last offensive player to touch the puck if it is an "own goal" gets the credit for scoring the goal. In this case, that was Connor.

    7:06 I could be wrong about this, but I believe that in soccer/football an own goal is actually credited on the scoresheet as a goal for the other team with the other team’s player listed as the scorer, which seems kind of brutal to me lol 😂 Anyhow, in hockey, if an own goal is scored, the goal will be credited to the last player on the goal-scoring team who touched the puck. So the guy who put it in his own net, his gaffe won’t be immemoralized in the box score. Bet that’s little comfort to him though 😂

    The best of the best goal scorers usually average 0.5 - 0.6 ish (maybe 0.7 in a very special case) goals/game in their careers. Scoring 50 in a regular 82 game season is a number only achieved by elite scorers in the modern NHL. So you can probably imagine how rare a 4 goal game is. Also, that 4th goal in the 4 goal performance was an own goal, but Connor gets credit since he was the last to touch it on the scoring team and it would be unassisted

    A hat trick in hockey (also 3 goals) is more common than in soccer, but still fairly unusual - the 2018-19 season saw it happen 97 times, or about once every 13 games (in the most recent Premier League season, it was about once every 32 games). The NHL record for a single player is 7 goals in a game (in 1920); nobody's even managed six since 1976, and 5 in a game has only happened four times since 1996. Games were much higher scoring in the 1980s and early 90s - there were 30 5-goal games between 1976 and 1996. For season totals, 50 (in 82 games) is likely to be a league-leading total now; 60's only been achieved twice since 1996. In the 1980s, though, three players managed to score 70 and not even lead the league in goals. Hockey stats don't track own goals separately the way they do in soccer - it's credited to whichever player on the scoring team last touched the puck. "Points" are goals plus assists (generally, the last two teammates of the goal-scorer to touch the puck are credited with assists, as long as the defense didn't have control of it in between).

    McDavid is currently the best player in the league. He is a mashup of Gretzky’s hockey IQ and Mario Lemieux’s athleticism. Crosby and Ovi are currently in their “twilight” (even though they STILL score about a point a game despite being the ages most players start to show obvious rust but they age like wine because the hockey gods have blessed them with unreal longevity) and McDavid is currently just starting his prime years so he’s INSANELY productive. The only problem is is that Edmonton suck at building a team around him so they haven’t seen much team success yet but once the Oilers figure it out and have a good team that can threaten a championship it will be VERY hard to beat them. A McDavid in his current form where he isn’t a winner yet is already lethal enough, I reckon what he will be like once he’s figured it out and tasted victory.

    McDavid is absolutely the best player in the world right now. Other guys may be as good stickhandlers, passers or goal scorers, but nobody in history has put it all together and done it at the fast pace that McDavid does.

  • @Garkimyer
    @Garkimyer Жыл бұрын

    A David is the best player in the league by a fair margin right now. He has all of the stick handling and passing skills of all the other best players, but his speed is on another level. That’s why he looks its so easy for him, nobody can come close to keeping up with him so he just skates by everyone like theyre standings still.

    Nobody is definitively "better" than McDavid. He's your Ronaldo or Messi. There are other players that belong in the conversation but better? No. And certainly not faster. Talk to a Russian you're likely to get a different answer than a Swede or Canadian. My top ten current players, without thinking too hard about it is something like: Connor McDavid (CAN), Sidney Crosby (CAN), Alexander Ovechkin (RUS), Nikita Kucherov (RUS), Leon Draisaitl (GER), Aleksander Barkov (FIN), Nathan McKinnon (CAN), Kirill Kaprizov (RUS), Auston Matthews (USA), Mikko Rantanen (FIN). Full disclosure, I'm Canadian as Maple Syrup. Edit: Apologies to any Finns who saw me list Barkov as Russian.
