4:54 there is a massive unwritten rule in fighting in hockey, that when the guy goes down, the fight is over. As you can see clearly there.

I can see why it could be a written rule as well. The ice is like slippery concrete. It's not as easy to regain balance as you'd think.

5:55-6:05 I feel like the guy just basically like ejected himself from the game. Like, before the referee even made an official call he was just like "I know I'm going to be ejected, so I'll just head to the locker room." LMAO. I've never seen that before.

The ref did tell him he was getting a penalty, but he didnt need to because the player already knew he was getting 5 minutes for fighting. And since there was less than 5 minutes left in the game, they just send them to the locker room instead of bothering putting them in the penalty box

2:20 that is the perfect example of why guys often don't want to throw the first punch. Because you leave yourself so exposed. There are times in hockey, where two guys will drop their gloves and square off at each other, but both guys refuse to be the one to throw the first punch, so they just kinda circle each other until eventually the linesmen(referees) stop the fight before a punch is even thrown.

Even back the. 10 cents was dirt cheap for beer. All hell breaks lose. It's absolutely amazing. Even if you don't react to it, it's a must watch.

1:00 I think baseball is the 2nd most lenient towards fighting of the main sports. Fights in baseball usually lead to an ejection and maybe a relatively small suspension for some of the guys who participate. Fights in American Football and Basketball typically lead to lengthy and significant suspensions. But yeah, Hockey where guys can throw down and sometimes not even receive a penalty...is insane.

3:02 where you say "leave em to it" in general I agree, but I think the ref knew that the Penguins goalie would absolutely destroy the Islanders goalie in a fight(and was right, it only took one punch!) and was honestly trying to protect the Islanders goalie even though he was who instigated it.

First off im totally for fighting in hockey for the checks and balances on cheap shots and hits on skilled players. HOWEVER when I watch some of my favorite hockey legends like goon Darren McCarty or Mark Pavelich from the 1980 miracle on ice mentally and physically fall apart after their career because of repeated head trauma, I get why they are sanitizing the game. I don't want to think about what my current favorite young player is going to be dealing with in 20-30 years for the rest of their life.

You make a good point that I forgot to consider. As others have mentioned though, if you completely remove fighting you might have guys resorting to more malicious forms of revenge such as slashing, eye gouges etc. I think they way the fights are managed now, where its broken up when it it hits the deck is a good balance

Fighting is how hockey polices itself. If there wasn't any fighting, you'd see more slashing, high sticking, boarding, and all kinds of stuff that can really get dangerous. Taking a fist to the face is a lot safer than taking a stick to the face.

If you like hockey fights, you'll love this mini-documentary(less than 10 minutes) of the Red Wings-Avalanche rivalry in the 90's. These two teams loathed each other and had some insane fights. And it just so happened that they were the two best teams in the league at the time. Imagine Man United and Man City not only playing in competitive matches, but also having full on brawls. Over the course of years. Thats basically what this is. kzread.info/dash/bejne/i32usLOylM6omZM.html
