Smokin' Hot Jig Fishing for Brookies at George Lake (Near Bishop, CA)
After lighting it up with my fly rod, I decided to see how jigs would do.

They were all over that thing. I thought the fly fishing was hot but once I busted that thing out, it was on!
Gotta be worth the hike looks pretty secluded from the public

It's a short, steep hell hike. The fishing is solid but take it on at own risk! I thought it was well worth it but I/m going to wait a while before I take another bite off of this candy bar.
Now that is classic wilderness with Amani!!👏👏👏

Right on. So happy to be up in the backcountry again. The mosquitoes right now, especially with all of the water, are no joke!
And that's how's its done ! What a great day of fishing...made it look easy 😂

Yeah, I hiked up into some smoking hot fishing. I'll take fishing like that any day. I just need to wait a bit before I tackle that gnarly trail again!
That’s a honey hole! Very fun little fighters!🎉

Yeah, that lake was on fire. Worth the steep hike.
Do you ever eat Brookies there very good.😎

Yes I have and yes they are very good. I just don't eat much fish in the backcountry these days.
What size and type of line are you using with those jigs? I have a bunch of Sierra slammer jigs but have troubles getting the 1/32 and 1/16 jigs out far
@wildernesswithamani1027
11 ай бұрын
I use 6lb mono. !/32 can be tough to cast, especially with wind. I wghip them out with a 5' ultralight UglyStik. I find the 1/16 are good for better range and a faster sink. The 1/32 OZ seems to have better action. Most of the tackle and set ups I use can be found in videos on my fishing tips playlist.
Love your videos, And all your tips and tricks! Do you have a mailing address? I tie flys and I made some that might work for you. Tight lines 👍🎣

I don't have a P.O. box set up because I know I won't have time to make it over there enough to keep it from overflowing. You can direct message me through my Patreon and we could figure something out. I check those messages regularly. Short of that, I'll have a P.O. box eventually. I don't want to get one until I'm sure I can check it at least once a week.
Amani brother ! What Type of weight are you using on that green jig ? Ty
@wildernesswithamani1027
11 ай бұрын
I don't use a weight when I use jigs or lures in general. I tie them directly to the line for better action and a more natural presentation. I just have to figure out how to whip them out there. The more you fish them, the better you get at it. I have a jig fishing clip on my fishing tips playlist where I do a very general presentation of how I like to fish this type of jig in lakes.

Grab a Wilderness Permit for one of the Lakes/ hikes on my backcountry playlists. They are all good places. Hoover Wilderness, John Muir Wilderness, Golden Trout Wilderness, etc. I have the trailheads on my hiking playlist and then the fishing on my backcountry fishing playlist. Use a mapping app to get directions to the trailhead to a destination you like and you can decide if you want to drive and hike the distance. I have clips on how to deal with bears, etc on my outdoor safety playlist and you can see me doing it first hand on my Wildlife encounters playlist. I have over 700 videos across my channel playlists so this information is available.@@Soloriderpowder
hey amani , i 've been tryna be more conscious abt proper release of the fish that i dont plan to eat and for their health, how do u find barbless hooked lures? do u replace the hooks on ur jigs or is there an alternative jigs that already come barbless. i think you explaining about it, is really educational and helps people who want to fish more ethically and consciously! thank you

Personally, I use a needle file and vice grips. You can order a set of small needle files for under $8 on Amazon that come in packs of ten. Don't order a set that has small files that are too wide or they won't work. I just did that and only one of the files is thin enough to file down even my 1/8oz jigs. They are a variety pack so not all of the needle files in the set are good for filing the barbs off but enough of them are useful and they last a while where it's a great bargain. I have a clip on my fishing tips playlist where I show the basic premise of how I do it. I shot that video a while ago so my process has been slightly refined but it's one of those things where you will figure it out quick. I basically clamp the hook in the vice grips so that the file can rest on the vice grip in perfect alignment with the barb and file the hook smooth in seconds. Be careful not to file the hook and not just the barb or else you'll lose a couple of big trout to busted hooks like I have!

@@wildernesswithamani1027 oh i never thought abt that! thats smart, i''ll look into those files and experiment wit what works , thanks amani !
amani how long did it take you to hike into george lake. on a scale of 1 to 10 how difficult was it with 10 being the hardest good vid thanks
@wildernesswithamani1027

It took about an hour and a half I think but I didn't time it. For a short 3.5 mile hike I'd have to say 8 on a difficulty level. The trail wasn't bad to walk on, it was just a lot of steep uphill in the thin air above 10K. If you go you will be breathing hard!

I only got larger fish in Lake one. They were browns. I have a couple of clips from that trip on my backcountry fishing playlist. When I fished lake two all I got were real small brookies.

You call this 'work'? Unreal. Just back from the Yampa. Shoulda never left!!!
@wildernesswithamani1027

No I don't call this work. The use of the term was in a relative sense to the specific situation. It was the type of brief sentence I often utter where sometimes ungrateful jackasses key in on to make a snarky comment like I don't know what hard work is. The 12 hour shift I just got home from so I can have the time to drive to the mountains, hike, fish, sleep in my car, hike fish again the next day, then drive hours home just to edit and post content for 12 hours or more is the real hard work. That's how you generate the hundreds of videos across my channel playlists and compile a backcountry data base for people to enjoy and use in just a few short years. After the 12 hour shift I just finished, I'll be prepping tonight to leave tomorrow to drive 4 hours to the mountains to shoot more content before my 12 hour shifts start again next Thursday. You don't call that hard work, to use your word "unreal". Go watch something else dude. Goodbye.
YOU THINK THERE IS OTHER KINDS OF TROUT IN THERE AMANI ...

I think it's all brookies, at least that's what I read in my 10 minutes of research! That's all I was seeing but I could be wrong.
Pro tip man, dont yell at the camera. Very hard to watch with your screaming. Looks like you have some great content but hard for me to enjoy with the yelling voice.

Sorry man. the external mic is difficult to use with my GoPro 5 so talking loud, yelling as you characterize it, is how I roll. Sorry to turn you off as a viewer. Hope you can find something on another channel more palatable audio wise.
