Why was Clark Kent committed to a mental hospital? And who put him there?

Spoiler: It’s a phantom that escaped from the phantom zone. He’s trying to take control of Clark’s body so he creates a fantasy world where Clark is crazy.

@@night-streakmedia3319 yes but I think the creators of Smallville just wanted to do something similar to Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s episode about the same thing.
