Smallville S05E13- Final Scene, Very Sad!

One of the saddest scenes in all of television

I worked on Smallville for a few years at the Warner Brothers audio department in Burbank. When we were running this episode reel by reel we were glib about it, then when this scene came on, we all got quiet, and a few of us (myself included) were moved to tears

This will always be one of my favorite moments of the series. Clark was trying so hard to be strong for everyone especially his mom but here he finally let it out and grieved. I had that moment after my mom passed years ago and I swear it felt like I could breathe again.

Feels like your suffocating. He was probably fed up , angry , distressed and sad yet he did try to be tough and not show anyone how he really feels. You feel like you don't need anyone and that your going to be fine but when your friends or your family comfort you then you finally break down and that's probably a relief. Clark always tries to be tough...

I remember getting teary eyed myself watching this scene for the first time. Really connected Clark because I had lost my grandfather Harold, not to long before this. I remember crying just as much as Clark and feeling the same way a day or two after he passed. It never is Truly something you get over the death of a loved one. Especially someone you looked up to and respected your whole life. I still miss my grandfather, even though I have all the memories with him from over the years. And I know I will see him again one day. Clark was the same way, missing Jonathon even with having all their memories together. Sometimes you just can't help yourself, the grief is just to much. Love Truly is a beautiful thing. Especially love for family and friends. They certainly make us who we are. And so does what we share with them and they with us. One of the greatest lessons that Smallville taught.😀🙏

Are you sure he never did? I'm assuming you mean the comics. I thought they changed it when they did a reboot. Maybe in the 80s which Lois and Clark: TNAOS is based on they decided to keep him alive. I thought in golden or maybe silver age whenever the 1st gave Clark an origin story Jonathan was dead. He was in The Adventures of Suoerman or whatever TV show from the 50s. As a side note, I wish they hadn't have killed him off regardless.

Jonathan Kent sadly dies when Clark is still a teen in the majority of the live-action adaptations. I can’t say for sure about the comics, because the lore changed constantly throughout the decades - but the idea of Jonathan dying was pretty much baked into canon by the 1978 movie, if not before.

Jonathan was alive post-Crisis starting with the 1986 Man of Steel limited series when Superman's origins were changed and he helped revive Superman after the battle with Doomsday when his body was in a deep coma (he never really died). Around 2008 they did kill him in the comics again in a story where Brainiac attacks the yellow sun so he was still alive in the comics when they killed him off in Smallville.
