sketching with Jim fountain pen ink and watercolor Foxfire Museum log building

Another log building sketch, this time from Georgia USA Foxfire Museum.
We were on a camping holiday, away from the cold north for a bit, and visited the museum. I have been a fan of the Foxfire books for a long time and wanted to see what the high school kids had built on land purchased with royalty money from book sales.
This was a learning experience but turned out not too bad in the end.
I hope you enjoy and perhaps gain something from it.
As always, I appreciate all comments, and also want to thank all of the subscribers for following along with me.

I like all mediums in sketching ... there is always something new to learn! You ask in most of your videos for suggestions so I'm partial to streams, forests, churches and your cabins and barns. Thanks for sharing your work!

Turned out pretty good. I love the backstory about the high school kids setting up the museum.

Yes, read many of the books in the past and always wanted to visit the museum. Talked to one of the volunteers working on paths and he was one of the original high school kids.

We've driven by there many times and camped nearby but never knew about the museum. Now I want to go visit and try making a similar sketch. Thank you. Sandy, Raleigh NC

I knew the Foxfire books from way back so googled where they were from. It’s a small windy uphill road to the place so hard to see unless you know it’s there.

Very nice! I haven’t gotten brave enough to use ink for sketching yet. My cheap but beautiful fountain pens sit neglected. It’s still pencil and eraser for now. Very relaxing video. You have a soothing voice.

Thanks for the comment. I touch on the confidence thing a bit in my next video ( after getting your comment) but not sure if I make sense. You do you, and do a lot of doodling of non serious stuff with a pen. When I do a “serious” piece I spend hours with the pencil sketch, more with the inking and then even more with the colouring. Those fountain pens want to be used, they’re calling to you. I have used fine liners and all sorts of medium but only started using my fountain pen this year for drawing, and love it. Happy sketching.
