Skateboarder Josh Kalis 7 of 7 - Epicly Later'd - VICE
Спорт
Part 7/7 of a set of interviews with skateboarder Josh Kalis. For more skateboarding action, check out VICE's Epicly Later'd: vice.com/epicly-later-d
The grand finale for what seems to be one of our most fan-approved series is here. It is hard to try to fit in all the events in 18 years of someone's life, but we tried. Some might be wondering where all the Chicago talk is or why we didn't go into Seek. The short answer for Chicago is that we ran out of time, but not without a valiant effort from the Uprise Skateshop crew, especially Jonathan Methvin and Justin Edwards. As for Seek, you'll just have to wait for Stevie's series. Please enjoy the episode.

'' You don't wanna be lumped in with me an Berra'' Just won me back Dyradek.

That's the thing about Dyrdek, he knows exactly the monster he created but has a handle on it. He has kept his ego in check. Unlike Berra...

The Cardiel story and just his general outlook on life was so refreshing and eye-opening for me, it'll always be number one. Then the Guy Mariano story seemed like it was such an unbelievable accomplishment for him, especially considering his part in Pretty Sweet (was solid). Then the Ali Boulala, an obvious choice. But this piece here, is insane...literally...and then to attempt to settle a dispute between him and Dill via the show...incredible. Cardiel - appealing and raw. Mariano and Ali - shocking and either could be made into a feature length film. But Kalis...what a hero. It could well be number one. Actually, no, there is no number one. Every episode has its own appeal, some more than others. I don't know why Epicly Later'd stopped. Make an episode out of that. Kalis = DGK

What Josh did for Stevie, Jamie did for Josh. Can’t always pay it back, so pay it forward.

Gotta like Dyrdeks attitude, not taking himself too seriously

Was truely sad when it was over. Left me wanting more Kalis lol. Going to watch the D.C video now
Mad respect for Kalis been killin for forever
This series made me respect Dyrdek a bit more. Always thought he was a corporate robot, but he’s definitely self aware about the decisions he made and knows he’s on a different level when compared to Kalis’s purist / OG ethics. Mad respect, definitely would love to see more episodes on vice
SO MUCH HEART. Kalis has always poured his heart and soul into the skateboarding, the streets, his homies, that perfect urban vibe, the fun, everything. This 7 part episode has been the greatest thing for me to watch right now
this was a great documentary. I leaned so much skate history in these 7 episodes. Love you Vice!!!
Dope! I love this era of skateboarding 🛹. It is the era I grew up in. I swear the 90s and early 2000s were the shit especially for sports all sports.

Yep. I agree. I lived thru it as well
Damn, didn't realize how big of an impact Kalis and Williams had on the skateboarding scene. Die hard true street skateboarding right there man, the best.
I used to talk a lot of shit on Dyrdek but he’s actually really smart and insightful. Also, the Kalis AWS board right after Photosynthesis was the deck I learned basically everything on. Best board ever.
need a stevie episode
Dyrdek's stock just went up in my books. Great Episode! I really knew nothing about these guys, now i got so much respect for them all.

This has to be my favorite because it just bleeds that feeling of hanging out in some school parking lot all day with my friends. Middle school shit. Wearing baggy-ass swooshy pants and shoes with tongues the size of hamburger buns. Probably had my mom order em out of CCS. Would go home and watch "Fulfill the Dream" and wish I could do switch hardflips like Brandon Turner. For some reason gave a shit about bushings and riser pads and thought I needed those to be cool. Had that plastic Spitfire coin pouch everyone had. Got in trouble for folding my Shorty's shirt to say "Fuck You" to my teacher. Anyone?

Liam Gallagher you saw it too😂
Damn I love how at the very end he is asked about his future.. He says he's not sure then talks about what he's doing the next day. That's how I want to live. Only knowing what's gonna happen day to day. Not worrying or caring about a year from now, or a month from now. Not even a week from now. I wanna live every day as it sits and enjoy it while it lasts.

dyrdek could get a rollerblade x monster tattoo on his face and you'd still have to love him for this interview
Best one yet!
And this is why at 44 yrs old im still a sk8rat . Gold.
Legendary tale of the silver age of skateboarding.
I would love to see an Epcily Later'd on Appleyard next..
total legend.
my fav epicly session...... josh is a legend .....always has been!!!! i already watched these 7 episodes since they came out 20 or so times. once in a while I come back here just to watch them eventho i don't even skate anymore!!! much love and support from munich/germany to my fav skater of all times josh fucking kalis. i really love him....no homo tho!
Stevie.... you have come along way man.. you are so humble and poised now and truly inspire me to keep it real. Made my day!
Although they made a typo saying Kalis In Mono was 1995 (actually 2005), beyond higher quality of video you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference. This dude is as raw as they get, definitely my main source of inspiration from my 15 or whatever years of skating.
Had the article on Phili was my bedroom wall and those late flips over the hip are burned on my mind from when they first came out...haven't seen them for 25 years!
Josh, this was sick, amazing fr I’m thankful I got to grow up in a time to see Stevie josh and to see the love park scene takeover I got to see the workshop kill it and they were so strong back then thank you josh 💜
Did not expect Kalis to be one of the best in this series, but it is. The Kalis Stevie and Thomas story and finally ending up on DGK is priceless
Kalis is timeless!!! 100 years from now, and kids would still buy his boards!
one of my favorites
Best vice documentary so far.
Best Epicly Later’d of all time
this was deep man. good stuff
WHAT A SERIES AND WHAT A EPISODE!❤

makes me wish... if only I could do something with my life too.
daaamn. appleyard and kalis and their own board company :D haha. that would have been rad. I would have definately bought those boards!^^
What Rob speaks is the truth, Kalis was never about trends or hype, he’s always been the same dude, and he’s always ripped. Just like Carroll.
Best episode hands down DGK
really cool series
Miss this show
Has one of the best tre flips ever
wow, what an amazing story
Very well done.
full respect for kalis after watching this, dill was blowing it in Dylan's episode, josh is a true skateboarder. my first skateboard was a kalis workshop I got 8 years ago and I still have it. fuck I love skating
Legend
REAL TALK!!!!!
as well as gaining respect for kalis, i respect dyrdek more now because he knows he's "up river"
Dude is a Hero, and example what ever happens to ya don't let that riun your life, he had family problems in he younger age but he never turned to drugs or anything, guys my hero yo
good story pat! Really taught me a lot about someone i grew up watching but never knew a shit load about.
I was bummed when this series ended, so fking sick...
wow, im so glad Josh made this Epicy later'd. I used to think he was some punk but admittedly i was so wrong. One of the most interesting people on the skate scene and seems like a good guy too.. Respect.
Rob is hilarious haha! Kalis has one of the most realest stories he’s a true OG.
absolutely epic
Inspirational
damn Josh Kalis is definitely one of the best skateboarders ever!! or at least the one with the most interesting and awesome career:O

One of my go to guys when quick searching parts.. Still sick as ever too, his part in DGK Parental Advisory was soo fucking OG
🔥🔥🔥
great story
legend
I have absolutely no interest in skateboarding but this was an extremely good documentary. I was supposed to leave my house over an hour ago but couldn;t walk away from this.
One of the most underrated skaters.
Watching in 2020
I think they mean upriver as in corporate logos, websites, slick video editing etc, media, x games etc as opposed to dirty jeans street skating.
the most epic, epicly later'd
Where is the AVE epicly later'd?! Anyway, Kalis is So Bolts🔥!
thats awesome. You should check out more of Patrick Odel's documentarys. Very good stuff.
Fuckin love Stevie !! Mad respect from Scotland .
king
kalis for president
and that's why Kalis is the best!
