Sire Basses: Sire Marcus Miller P5 and P5R (attack of the killer P's!)

Музыка

Dan Veall takes us on a journey through the Sire Marcus Miller P5 and P5R Precision-style basses
"We are treated to a classic design that has beaten a well-trodden path for decades - nay, I think, sauntered with confidence in being possibly the most-recorded bass design in history.
It's a classic, a staple, and arguably can do any style; and for most “versions” out there, it hasn't really changed that much since the late ‘50s.
Well, Sire, I feel, are tackling “yet another P” with decorum and thought. The existing P8 and P10 models offer souped-up refinements in the range, including a J-style pickup, active electronics and eye-catching tops. However, demand still grew for a great-sounding, smooth-playing passive workhorse with all that fat richness we hope for in a no-nonsense bass."

Thanks for a great video with AWESOME SOUND. After searching and researching for a great bass at a reasonable price I chose the P5R (to be delivered in a few days). I've always been into J style and that's what I was specificaly looking for, but when I heard the Sire Ps, my mind was changed.

I got a Fender Player P bass and wanted something similar but maybe not as much money so I could set it up in a different tuning and bought the Green Sire P5. It's absolutely gorgeous, well balanced honestly pretty much sounds the same as the Fender for half the money!

I have the P5 in Red at home and could not be happier. Since they lauched the P5R, Sire improved the voicing of the pickups and gave them a little more bottom end. Because I bought one of the first batches availabe, I installed Kloppmann pickups and now the bass sounds and plays like a 10 times more expensive Fender custom. In addition you have all the little nice details you mentioned in the review, which none of the Original will ever have. 12 points goes to Sire.

Thank you! I think I was suffering from a little red-light-syndrome 😂 I like to record all my videos live and, well, sometimes my poor little brain is so full of nerdy bass stuff that it goes blank when it comes to the simple act of talking! 😂😂

Do you mind commenting on the tonal difference between the two versions p5 vs p5r. Is the rosewood version different in terms of tonality?

I have a red Sire P5 and am generally happy with it. However, when I first heart it I felt like the pickup needs more low end, so I switched it for a DiMarzio Relentless splitcoil pickup. Another thing that bothers me is that the strings snarl at some frets when played acoustically. So far, I haven't noticed this problem when I play the bass over the amp, fortunately!

Those front facing dots on the regular P5 are almost invisible to me. I like my fretboards maple, but maybe not as dark as this one...

I totally agree. I'd like a maple fretboard, but I like the blonde look of regular maple, not such a dark tone.

Wow….the color correction of it all….Please upgrade your studio lighting, for reviews - the first bass in this video looks VERY YELLOW!! (Which would actually have drawn me to it if not for the hideous tortoise shell pick guard which is a billion percent No) …still sounds good. Hey bass manufacturers- stop making stupid color choices!! It’s a big investment for people don’t make us put up with something ugly!!
