Brilliant! Thank you for your tutorials - they are all so helpful.
Great to learn this method.
I, too, wish I had known about this method before! I felt so frustrated every time i had to attach button bands on my cardigans, it never looked nice and flat the first time around, it was either too tight giving the edge a puckered up look, or made the edge all wavy. I had to redo my button bands so many times to get them right. Now i know how To do them correctly! Thank you so much!

I love your tutorials, they’re so easy to follow and so much easier to work with than other ways. I hate button bands and am always struggling with buttonholes- they never look neat enough! The slip stitch gives a really lovely edge although I’m not sure I coped with it when I had to cast off stitches at an armhole shaping. I’m going to see if you cover that in your tutorial but if not, would you consider it please? Thanks

Thank you for the kind words, Brenda :-) I'm really glad my tutorials make sense to you. Thank you! As to binding off selvedge stitches, in most cases, we treat them as normal stitches in the bind off row. That means that instead of slipping the first stitch you would knit it. Happy knitting!
If the project is knitted in a smaller size ribbing with a larger size stockinette for the body, and the button band uses the smaller size needles, wouldn't that not work evenly even with the slipped stitch edging? I'll need to do some experimentation on swatches.

Hi Audrey. You are right - swatching is the best way to tell. A lot depends on the difference between the needle sizes, the fibre content of the yarn and the effect you want to achieve. In some cases, it is good to have a button band a bit tighter than the main fabric. Happy knitting, my friend!
Lovely as always Maryna! What yarn do you use for your swatches? I believe you told me before but I cannot remember. Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for another great tutorial!💞

Why does one not create the button/buttonhole band while working the pieces themselves?

It all depends on the design of a project. Plus, when we work the project separately from the button band, we don't have to worry about placing the button holes in a correct spot. But of course, it is possible (and not that hard!) to make the button bands at the same time as we make the main fabric of the project. Happy knitting :-)
Thanks!
