This was one of the best knitting tutorials I have ever watched. Correct speed and visuals. Brilliant. Also reminded me to make buttonholes. Perfect.

Thank you! I’m going to give this a go. I already bound off my ribbing, so I will need to do some weaving in.

This is so helpful! I was looking for a technique exactly like this to modify an existing sweater pattern that I wanted to transform into a cardigan pattern, not knowing how many buttons I need .. thank you!

Where do you start the band on left front without knitting on wrong side. Thanks

Are you knitting through the back loop for a reason? Is it somehow important for tension on the buttonband?

I am also interested in this answer. I wonder if she was trying to knit a twisted rib hence through the back loop. I did notice that as she was first creating the foundation for the vertical button band there was one stitch she knit that was the usual Western through the front, and I also did notice as the video started and she was completing the hem ribbing that the knits were seated Eastern on the needle and she was knitting through the back loop of those knit stitches. I hope she comes back to explain this part of it some more!

It's a form of combined knitting technique...I knit like this, it's easier (for me) and faster, especially for the purls.

Because she wraps the yarn clockwise on a purl, the stitch has an “eastern” mount -you see this when the work is flipped over because the leading leg is behind the needle. To correct that mount back to a “western” mount, she knits through the back loop. Combination knitting (eastern and western mounts) does make a difference in tension but is also easier to purl.

There is a name for this knitting method which I don’t remember. This is how I was taught by my Eastern European mother. If anyone knows the name of the method let me know.

What happens if you knit a join every row?

Your band will be too long, because you have more rows then stitches
