Simple Crispy Pork in 35 minutes | Air Fryer

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

After trying different ways of cooking air fryer pork belly for two weeks, finally I managed to reduce the cooking time to just 35 minutes with minimum preparation, and it bubbles with CRISPY crackle EVERY single time!!! Works with ANY air fryer!
Feel free to leave messages in the comment if you have any questions, I’ll try my best to answer.
➖Preparation: no need to score or poke the skin. Less than 5 minutes prep.
➖Vac-bag packed pork: If the pork belly comes in a vac-bag that’s packed a few days ago, the skin might be a bit wet. Dry the skin for the best crackling result by giving it a good wipe with kitchen towel, or leaving it in the fridge uncovered for a few hours or overnight if possible.
➖Pre-scored pork belly: if the pork is pre-scored, just make sure that it’s not cut down to the flesh. If it’s too deep, the juice of the meat will bubble up and cook the skin while cooking and that patch of skin won’t be crispy.
➖Seasoning: seasoning with only five spice powder, salt and pepper. Yer it is the best seasoning ever!
➖Five spice powder: this is a common spice used in Chinese cooking, can be found in most local supermarkets. It's the secret for great seasoning in this recipe. However if you would like to use something you already have in you pantry, substitute it with 1tsp garlic powder and 1tsp onion powder (Only in this recipe though. Garlic powder and onion powder mix is not a general substitution for five spice powder).
➖Need longer cooking time if cooking a bigger piece of pork? No, I’ve tried cooking 1.2 kg pork in a single large basket, only 35 minutes is needed.
➖Crackling tips: this recipe cooks perfect crackle EVERY SINGLE TIME! However do make sure that the skin is dry before putting it into the air fryer. Again dry it with kitchen towel or leave it in the fridge uncovered for a few hours or overnight if the pork comes in a vacccumed package.
➖Juicy meat: the meat is soft and juice, fat part melts in the month, no greasy!
➖Heating up leftovers: leftover lasts for about two days in fridge. It tastes just like freshly cooked with crispy crackle when heating up in an air fryer for about 10 minutes or less (depends on the size). Microwave for about 1 minute or two works too, the crackling just not as crispy as first cooked.

I'll give that a go without pricking the skin and using Vinnegar which was my traditional method.

I found the meat undercooked, even though I followed instructions carefully. Crackle was good but meat was rather pink. Should I increase the temperature for the first 15 minutes, or should the airfryer be preheated?

Hi Jay sorry to hear that! Yes I’d say it’s something to do with the heat. Maybe try preheating, turn up the heat for 5C/10C, and extend the cooking for another 5-10 minutes. Each air fryer is different but this should work. Not opening the drawer too often while cooking though. My husband did this and ended up with pink inside. So we cooked for a longer time. It turned out a little dry, but a great experience for me to learn about this recipe. Thanks for the question, please let me know how it goes! 🤎

@@abbiegraham1179 I usually preheat the air fryer for 5 mins on 200deg before cooking, but since this wasn't mentioned, I started from cold and cooked meat for 15 mins at 150deg and then a further 20mins at 200deg. I shall try again but will preheat and then cook the first part at a higher temperature. I'll let you know how it goes. May be a couple of weeks before I cook again. Thank you very much for your reply.

Awesome! Also do score the bottom of the pork, cut deep, it shortens the cooking time and seasons the meat.

Is that 2 x 1.2kgs of pork, or 1.2kg of pork cut into 2 (600g each)?

That’s 1.2kg cut into 2, but I’ve tested with a 1kg pork in a bigger drawer, the exact recipe works.

Nope. No need to poke or score the skin. But you may want to leave it in the fridge to remove some of the moisture if it comes in a vacuumed package.

Overnight would be ideal, as vacuum packed can be quite moist.
