SIMPLE BUSHCRAFT TIPS - Spring Pole Snare | Trapping | Life of Mike

Ойын-сауық

Here is a simple bushcraft and survival trap which can be made with very little resources. The spring pole snare uses a green sapling, some cordage, a trigger stick, bait stick and a hooped stick to hold the snare together. Be sure to check local laws and bylaws before making any form of trap or snare. This video is for educational purposes only.

I remember my childhood days in the late 80's. Me and my friends are making that same trap in the woods for wild chickens. We set up the traps early morning and put some sweet corns as our bait then come back late afternoon to check the traps. We catched some chickens but often failed to catch. Bring back some old memories. Thanks for the video Mike!

What does it mean when a Brit calls someone a beast? i’m just asking you Mike this question because quite some time ago back I was watching your TA outdoors and you said something about making an oven and one of your hutch’s you were building. I made a suggestion of you looking up Shawn James with my self-reliance on KZread to check out the Earthen oven he built for himself in his outdoor kitchen in on his old property and old cabin. Someone replied back that he was a beast. I didn’t know how to take that so I didn’t ever say anything back. I just took that as maybe it was a compliment, but it’s always been in the back of my mind that maybe he was putting down Shawn James. I can tell you this. I have learned an awful lot from Shawn James and his outdoor life and his forest management. He’s very good at what he does very knowledgeable. It’s all I got to say that.😊

I remember making similar traps when I was a kid, but not for animals, for people! Elaborate contraptions that hit them with a thin branch in the back of their heads, just to spook them a bit

This was brilliant ! When I was younger me and my brothers would snare rabbits this way .My Father taught us this and how to clean them and my Mother would make us feel so validated by cooking up our catch. Indeed what a wonderful skill to have, Cheers Mike and thank you for the video.

Just as a matter of interest, some traps and snares are actually illegal to use in some places. In Australia I think it varies from state to state but if it was a matter of survival, I wouldn't care about the legalities of it.

@@BlackshacksBushcraft Yep, I am very aware of this. I have more videos coming up on it, and laws are tight in the UK on snares and traps. Most are illegal. But like you say, if in a survival situation it's good to know.

Thanks for the feedback Henrik. I believe it’s not coming up in searches yet as the channel is only 1 week old. It should come up in searches in a few weeks time. You’d be amazed how many rip off “TA Outdoors” channels there are. But thankfully my main channel is well enough established now that they don’t get seen as much. Thanks for following along this channel!
