The worst thing about thus was the FA consulting the Premier League but not the EFL who have the majority of the teams in the competition.

The EFL do not have the majority of the teams in the competition though... Non-league does. That's the worst thing about this segment - it focuses on the EFL but even if they profit from a change in the distribution model this change has fucked over hundreds upon hundreds of clubs at the grassroots of the game.

The payment that Jordan is referencing is £33M. Divide that by 700 you get £42,000 each. It's not going to be an equal split payment so the clubs aren't going to receive £42,000. It's laughable. One replay at a ground in the Championship or Premier League pays a club much more than £42,000. It's not fair, it's not for the betterment of the competition and it's shamelessly disgraceful.

By having a replay we pulled them back to our ground, packed it to max capacity and were televised. Have to agree with Simon, replays do have a special aura around them, but the truly significant ones are rare and would be offset by a more stable increase in the overall pot of money shared throughout the pyramid. If a club needs a replay to keep afloat then that club is being run poorly which is a more fundamental issue which should be addressed separately with things like the fit and proper owners test - but the increased funds which they should be able to leverage because of this change should even help alleviate this issue! It's not like we lose the opportunity for giant killings, if anything it encourages the smaller clubs to give it a proper go if they're away to the big boys, so we might actually get a better quality of football compared to the current bus parking that tends to happen, and there will obviously still be home ties for those teams when the draw dictates. It is a shame that we lose these special, but very infrequent, events; but, this should lead to a more healthy overall picture for the entire footballing pyramid. More money for smaller clubs, less fatigue for the Premier League clubs, it's a win- win, providing those additional funds do end up materialising in a significant enough way.

Why is everyone that is opposed to the removal trying to make out that every small club takes a big team to a replay and that there gonna be losing lots of money… The reality is not many teams actually manage to do this and also, this actually gives smaller teams a better chance at getting to the next round If they’ve went 90 mins and drawn with a PL club, they have another 30 mins to do the same and then have the potential to beat them on pens or beat them in extra time, if that happens, they proceed to the next round and receive money from that… It’s extremely rare for a club to get a replay from a big team and it’s more or less impossible for a lower league team to get any result in a second leg away…

Too many games? Invite Premier league clubs to voluntarily resign from both domestic cup competitions permanently. Of course they’ll still find time for a month tour to Asia or the USA in pre season. Prem clubs convinced the rest of the EFL exists merely to serve them. Sooner they buggar off to the super league the better.

I do agree with Jordan. The replay will change the fortunes of 1 club a year, and that’s only if they get the right replay against the right club at the right place. Most won’t. This is not a bad idea as most teams won’t miss out but it would be much better if clubs are given a share of the cup revenue that’s increased more than it is now. Lower league clubs need a better share. This is a lifeline.

How does any equal distribution of money in a league help? They are in the same markets for players so all it will do is put up wages, transfer fees, agents fees and a few quid in the owners pockets. It should only happen if the money is spent on infrastructure and the local community.

I understand the sentiment with FA Cup replays and the revenues it brings but let’s be honest between a PL Club and a small club a replay is very slim at best. From the moment UEFA changed their tournament formats, this was an inevitability. One possible solution is that clubs who qualify for Europe don’t participate in the Carabao Cup. This will ease concerns about player fatigue overall and stop the whining about fixture congestion I have been hearing over the last few years. Change always happens, they just need to adapt.

what if the first round is at the smaller club then the replay is irrelevant. cant they just play at the bigger stadium and 50/50 gate split. Giant killings great but im sure the guaranteed money would be more beneficial in the long term to a lower league club than the chance of progressing one more round

FA cup draws where there is a lower league team playing a big team should be given the choice where they play. If they choose the big club’s ground they should be given the gate receipts.

Would the chance of a giant killing be greater if they continued an extra 30 minutes straight after drawing against said giant when they have momentum and have the chance on penalties to then get to the next round of the cup rather than restarting the game from minute 0 on another day? Most matches that go to extra time go to penalties anyway

Martin says about the team having a better chance in the replay but that’s not right teams normally get battered in the reply there best chance of a giant killing is in that 1 game where they could go onto wining in extra time or penalties and there’s barely any replays anyway there boring and adds games to the calendar that every club goes round saying they have to much of

The idea that replays give smaller teams a better chance of a giant killing is statistically false. They have a better chance over 90 minutes and penalties. If the issue is that small clubs can welcome a big PL club to their ground, then just make it so that clubs from lower leagues play at home.

theres pro's and con's to this lower league teams would love the extra money earned from a replay however, if you have a replay away at a team in a much higher league, your likely to get stuffed. imagine portsmouth going to anfield for a replay. whereas portsmouth could draw 1-1 at home and win on penalties.. just depends what teams prefer, extra cash and being dumped out getting smoked in a replay or less cash, but having the chance to knock a much higher team out on penalties. btw, scrapping replays isnt the way forward if your talking about de-congesting the schedule. thats down to fifa to stop these pointless international friendlies you have in september october and november.

Football league owners seem to suggest that a home FA Cup tie gives smaller clubs the chance of a lucrative replay tie at the bigger club's larger stadium, and a share of the higher gate receipts... Make all the FA Cup games at the home of bigger clubs... This way the fans get that away day experience at a Premier League stadium and the smaller clubs get higher gate receipts than a home tie could achieve...
