In this video I show the steps and procedures necessary to delete transmission thermostat on a Chevy Silverado. Equipped it with you 6l80e Transmission. This procedure will work for the GMC Sierra, Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, in any vehicle equipped it with transmission. This procedure will work for GMC Sierra, Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, in any vehicle equipped with 6l80e Transmission. Here in Arizona temperatures on the road can get an excess of 115°. And with our fleet vehicles we are often telling with our trucks transmission temperatures can get rather hang with the stock thermostat in tact. Leaving the thermostat is going aroun transmission. 198 is normal. The transmission is designed to run hot for efficiency. Why would you want to defet this?? It's engineed into the vehicle. It tells you on the IP if the transmission is to hot...

    @@philllsxga.7737 stock yes thats normal and for efficiency you are correct, but i have a built lock up convert and tuned, so at 198 degrees my convert falls on its face being that hot, especially when you want to lock 4th and make power, that's why its nice to be able to delete, plus I frequently tow up to 9k and that heat on a trans under load would kill it!

    Thank you for making this video. After performing this mod and adding an oil cooler on my 2015 Chevy Silverado I have had a 20 to 30 degree drop in temperature. It's 91° outside here in Florida and my transmission temperature has not risen above 160 on the interstate cruising at 70 mph. Before this mod my transmission temperature was on average 190 to 200+ .

    Unfortunately, I’ve hit 243’ pulling a trailer for 2 reasons. I forgot to hit tow/haul AND the thermostat was stuck. I put the new GM 8677-4933 in it and if I dog it, I’m getting 199’. Did your tranny survive the 230’ and did you change the fluid? Also, how’s the delete working? I’m thinking about one of the 150’ kits inside my old housing. Thoughts? Thanks

  • @masdbo

    @masdbo

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Sax6thAve123 after more testing, the delete helps but unless I am very careful and am very steady on the gas, (don’t allow the tranny to shift up and down), it will easily get up to 230+. When it does it can and will slip when accelerating from slow speed. I always run in trailer mode when pulling the trailer. Really the best thing to do is use the cruise control to keep it steady. I really think it needs a tranny cooler. If I’m real careful, I can’t keep it around 210 pulling a trailer, and that makes sense since that’s what the engine temp runs, so tranny cooler in addition would be a help.

It is also interesting to note that my '15 has the newer style cooler line plate retainer, rather than the clips. They must have changed it during the run. Very easy install, took about a 1/2 hour.

    It’s actually 2014 and newer. The thermostat in the block as shown in the video, redirects the trans fluid back into the transmission, bypassing the oem cooler unit. ( above the condenser) Until fluid level is above 180-190 degreees. A Tru cool is just a larger oil cooler. Not doing this mod and adding a trucool will be a waste of time, as trans temps will still be above 190

    I live and drive at 6000 feet in CO can regularly have temps at 199 - 210 on long drives. I'm thinking about doing this but and worried that the cold temps in the winter may cause viscosity issues. What do you all think? Also, how the heck would you "flip" it? the Thermostat only mounts one way. Are ya'll talking about the pin inside?

  • @AaronHinesAuto

    I wouldn’t worry about viscosity. Considering 2500 trucks don’t have trans thermostats. There are 2 ways to do with mod. 1st is to install a plug like shown in the video. 2nd is to flip the thermostat. I made a video that shows how to do that here. m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/hKGDyZKris-0fLw.html

    Yep. No thermostat means oil always circulates. In the winter, the ATF will never get up to operating temperature. That's almost as bad as the oil being cooked and overheated. Cold oil is too thick. Shifts will be harsh on components, pressures will be high and flow will be reduced so you lose lubrication at high RPM, additives don't work properly at colder temps, and moisture will accumulate in the fluid because it never gets hot enough to evaporate out of the breather vent. You really need to get a sweet spot. 190*F is usually the operating temperature of a transmission. Keeping it under 200*F is what's important. When you go over 200*F the fluid suffers degradation at an accelerated rate. For every 10*F above that, the fluid life is approximately cut in half. Heat is the enemy, but you need some heat to work correctly. 175-180* is a good target.
