    I have a full line-up of apsc lenses, so I'm curious, what would happen to the video quality if I used the apsc lenses on the A7C? Would the 4k video be cropped like photo resolution does in apsc crop mode?

  • @BrianTheCameraGuy

    @BrianTheCameraGuy

    2 жыл бұрын

    The video resolution would be cropped to the APS-C mode. Your pictures would be cropped and you would only use 10 mp of the sensor. For photo, you will want full frame glass. The video quality is still very good. I shoot a lot in aps-c mode for extra reach. I think the image looks great. I think you would be very happy with the 4k image no matter what lens you use from the aps-c lineup.

    Yes it does. Everything works the same as a full frame lens as long as you are not using clear image zoom. So even in aps-c mode the eye detect works in video. Just remember that for photo aps-c mode only gives you 10 Megapixels. In video it does not matter as you only need 8 Megapixels for a 4k image.

    @@BrianTheCameraGuy Well, thanks. I'm totally taking you up on your offer. This is gonna be a long one. I've been looking to make the jump into video (from [fashion] photo) and this shit is making my head spin (camera specs). (I guess it's a rite of passage of sorts?), especially with lockdowns and endless youtube/reddit/eoshd content to satisfy our FOMO. The majority of discussions tend to center around technical specs, but not necessarily image quality (peasant 8-bit mode vs 10-bit 4:2:2 God-mode, for instance), but as with everything in life, there's more than meets the eye. So, you're on the A7C (8-bit only!); and then we have other cameras (e.g. XT3/XT4) offering seemingly impressively better specs (10-bit, all-i, 400mbps (vs 8-bit ), h265). I've looked at a metric shit ton of videos; and I'm not convinced these better cameras are truly offering the significant leap in quality they purport to have; but maybe I'm just overthinking this and they are magically better. So, being on the A7C; do you feel like you're missing out with the A7C when you compare it to other cameras in the same price class? The A7C seems like a pretty smart (and especially entry) purchase, but I'm curious to hear your perspective on this matter. I've seen stellar footage shot with the A7 III, which is why I'm madly conflicted on this issue. Thanks!

  • @BrianTheCameraGuy

    @BrianTheCameraGuy

    2 жыл бұрын

    You did mention a lot here. The XT3/XT4 are really great APS-C cameras. There are pros and cons with APS-C when it comes to video. You do trade off some low light for light weight. APS-C is going to be much lighter than full frame. I like the way that full frame looks over the APS-C look but gear for full frame is also more expensive. I have really enjoyed using the a7c. I have used the a7iii and the a7c is better in the areas that matter to me which is color science, compactness, and the flip screen. The a7iii is a great camera but the autofocus system is not as good and that is why I like the a7c. I have not used 10bit footage yet but everyone has really talked it up. My question back to you is, what types of videos are you looking to make?

  • @Panotaker
    @Panotaker3 жыл бұрын

    So which looks better? The A7C with this lens, or the A6400 with this lens. I would imagine the A6400 since it will have more megapixels. You should do a comparison.

  • @BrianTheCameraGuy

    @BrianTheCameraGuy

    3 жыл бұрын

    For video it really does not matter on either camera. That is because a 4k image only needs about 8 megpixels. For stills it matters to a point. Yes the a6400 is going to give you a sharper stills image because of the full 24 megapixel camera. The a7c will only use 10 megapixels when using this lens. It really depends if you have to crop in post. Those extra megapixel help with cropping when correcting your image.

  • @muen1842

    @muen1842

    I saw a video, but I can’t seem to find it. It compared the image quality between the A7III in crop 35 mode vs an a6400. What they found was that the A7III actually pulled ahead in sharpness, image quality, and clearer contrasting edges. This may actually be because the full frame camera’s sensor has less megapixels in the same area and are hence larger pixels (gathering more light) so this allows a slight increase in DR and contrast. A7SIII is a top level camera for video, yet it only has 12 megapixels. I thought this was really cool!

    Based on my experience, using a cropped lens in super35 mode in full HD simply mercilessly kills the image quality... Perhaps shooting in HLG will help correct the picture.@@BrianTheCameraGuy

    I would say yes the hlg profile is way better to use when dealing with 8 bit footage.

    why this acts as f2 lens on full frame rather than 1.4 lens?

  • @BrianTheCameraGuy

    It acts like an f2 because the crop factor gives less bokeh compared to a full frame lens. Don't get me wrong , you are going to get some awesome bokeh. It is also going to be great in low light

    Yes, you get really good images from this lens. It you get the a7iv this lens will be super handy for 4k 60p

    Clear Image zoom at 1.3x is brilliant! I was always wondering if the 1.5x crop is really necessary for all APS-C lenses. Looks like it isn't.

    @@BrianTheCameraGuy Also, have you tried removing the rear baffle of the lens? In theory it's a non-destructive process and it should allow for a wider field of view.

    How is this lens NOT IN APS-C MODE?

    It does go to APS-C mode but you can go back to full frame and then do the clear image zoom to either 1.2 or 1.3 to get rid of the vinette. Great lens!!

    f1.4 is f1.4 doesnt matter if it's full frame or not.

    I would agree. F1.4 is really nice shallow depth of field but there is a difference between aps-c lenses and full frame. You definitely get a different look from an aps-c glass. Either way it is a beautiful image.

    @@BrianTheCameraGuy you cant find 16mm - 20mm at f1.4 anywhere. especially for that price. also 16 mm f1.4 on apsc is just a crop 16mm that looks like 24mm but with the depth of field and characteristic of a 16mm
