Sideswiping a Girl

Ойын-сауық

The plaintiff noticed the defendant dropped his wallet and she caught up with him to tell him where it was. When she pulled up next to him, he knocked her side mirror off. She’s suing for the cost of the damaged mirror and missed work. The defendant told the plaintiff to send him an invoice, but she never sent him a document from a reputable repair shop. He thinks the plaintiff is conning him.

    The cost of cancelling and replacing all ID, credit, debit cards from a lost wallet is so much higher than just $160. The young woman has a moral compass and she did what was right. She was raised well and her father should be proud of his daughter.

    Not true. The cost of replacing a driver's license varies from state to state but in NY state it's only $17.50. The cost of replacing credit cards and debit cards is usually free. And since he didn't have any cash in his wallet, he was only out the cost of the wallet itself. Which was probably less than $50. Which is probably why he was such a jerk because it losing his wallet and having to replace the contents wasn't a big deal to him. And since most of it could be done online, not much of an inconvenience either.

I think when ppl say "the cost" they also mean the hassle of remembering this/that/etc ➕️ the emotional cost. I've also had situations where a recurring payment have be hitting a card within a few days and now you have to wait for a snail mail card....some companies will FedEx at no charge, ours use regular mail or you pay. Not to mention w/ Debit cards, someone could drain CASH from a checking account 1) He'd only find out when? 2) Unlike a CC where the "charge" can be reverse while investigations are conducted...if it's a Debit....one might wait Weeks or Months to get back liquid CASH 💸 The headache absolutely could be equal to or not more than $150

    yeah, some religious people can't swear under oath. i am quaker and we don't swear to tell the truth in court. we affirm that our standard of truth is the same whether we are in court or in our everyday life. (another random fact... removing your hat in court is a sign of respect for the judge's authority. so, we don't remove our hats in court because we view everyone as equals).

    I wouldn't take it to heart too much... He was all smug and denied everything until JM called him out and played that recording. At that point, he knew he had lost and looked bad, especially as a member of the Military and a Chaplain, and was just trying to publicly save face. Plus he was probably also hoping that by showing remorse and taking accountability that JM wouldn't go as hard on him in her judgement. Make no mistake, he was definitely putting on a show to be in his best interest. He knew what he did was wrong the whole time but he's just cheap and selfish and only cares about saving a buck, otherwise they wouldn't have ended up in Court. I'll bet he probably thought that he could sway the Judge into not paying as much because there was literally no other reason to be there unless he was trying to get out of paying either part of it or maybe all of it.

    @@sashabenoit1518 Sure I get it. But for most, they still wouldn't apologize. Sometimes it takes being humiliated to see how stupid and ridiculous our actions are. Even then, most people wouldn't care enough to offer an apology.

  • @sashabenoit1518

    @sashabenoit1518

    @@Lowpressure29 Oh, I definitely agree with you and I find it truly sad and disheartening that we live in such a world where humility and the ability to take accountability for one's self are unfortunately more rare than not and getting harder and harder to come by as we further embrace narcissistic behaviors and the victim mentality in our society. And because of that, it's obviously very refreshing, a true breath of fresh air, when someone these days actually acknowledges their faults and genuinely apologizes. However, that being said, there's a distinct difference between apologizing because you are sincerely remorseful with the intent to learn from and change whatever led you down the path of your mistakes or wrongdoings to try to prevent that from repeating in the future and apologizing because you're just sorry that you got caught and it's in your best interest to appear remorseful. It's important to be able to distinguish between the two but unfortunately, lying and protecting your own interests are part of human nature and therefore it's not always so obvious, especially when our emotional side takes over and clouds our judgement, which is also human nature. And when we see someone humble themselves and admit their wrongs, it naturally evokes that emotional response in us and makes us want to believe it because it gives us hope and hope is one of the most powerful forces of human nature. But like I said, it can also deceive us. All of that being said, putting my emotional state aside and simply just objectively observing this man's behavior, it becomes very clear that he is not at all being genuine.

    @@sashabenoit1518 I concur with all of that. I was just making the point that regardless of how insincere he was, he openly acknowledged that he was wrong and offered an apology. That in and of itself is rare regardless of how we feel about it. He was shamed and embarrassed into apologizing which is a good thing. What would have been even better is a sincere apology.
