The government obviously feels like her or their income is accepted. Just because someone has section doesn't mean their rent is low. Section 8 could be paying a small portion of her or their rent. Section 8 makes you turn in all pay stubs etc.

@@themalissa l pay tens of thousands of dollars in both state and federal taxes every year-l don't get any "tax refund"-because l run my own business that l worked my behind off to build, but l don't get any rent/mortgage assistance, free food, free internet, free childcare, free healthcare, and on and on and there is NOTHlNG you can say that will explain how ANY of it makes sense.

She's on section 8 but can afford expensive oversea trips and can donate articles to the salvation army. Amazing!! I really wished these people are caught by the government because they are totally disgusting. If she were in JJ's court she would've been placed in shame.

A working individual who can't afford their rent and is honest about those in the household, I have no issue with them receiving assistance. HOWEVER, if they are able bodied, refuse to work and lie about others in the household, I have a HUGE issue with them receiving assistance. Of course we all deserve to be happy and take vacations, but it does hit differently when your tax dollars are funding those who refuse to help themselves.... Just saying....

Being on section 8 doesn’t mean that those people don’t pay rent or aren’t able to work. They just were able to qualify because they don’t make over a certain amount. They pay a portion of rent based on the income.

@@Queenofbeautiful I appreciate your perspective, however, there are a lot of people on assistance who choose to not work. Unfortunately, someone I grew up with is one of those individuals. They have 3 children, now married (hides the spouse's belongings during inspection, and actually admits it) and quit a job they had for less than a year because they were "over traffic". Yet, they still are able to keep their assistance. They are completely able bodied and have shown that they indeed can work, yet, they get to quit and still have rent paid by others.... It infuriates me and, I'm sure, millions of other working, tax paying citizens. If it does not bother you, that's your prerogative. Hope you have a wonderful evening 😊

What about when your tax dollars go towards weapons of war and keeping kids in cages? I know people who have section 8, their rent is 3200..they work so they pay 3000 and section 8 pays $200. So people need to stop believing in the rhetoric they've been fed. How about doing a little research on what percent of taxes come out of your income and how much money that really is before you decide to talk about how much money you're giving towards any social services. Besides those same people are paying taxes...we all do...except the right and nobody ever says anything about that. Smdh

You might have missed the portion of my comment that said some people work and still need help, and that's what the assistance was designed to do. I don't think anyone is negating that. However, as I previously stated, there are people who are able to work and choose not to and are somehow still able to receive assistance.

We are supporting the life style of over 68% of a certain population. I was a landlord - rented to section 8. I was asking for $1,200 a month. after the section 8 inspection, the sec. 8 people said they would pay me $2,400 a month!. Double of my advertisement! this happens 90% of the time. They don't care about our money.. sec. 8 should be eliminated, it's a scam on the American people. basically paying for vote for the democrat party.

The defendant didn’t provide an itemized letter but I believe that the plaintiff was lying when she said she gave two months notice to vacate. First she said she decided to move right at the end of her lease, then when the judge questioned her she cleaned it up and said she told him in March.

My exact thoughts... the AUDACITY & to say it on national TV! The government really needs to get serious about the free funding given out. Garnish all these folks federal & state taxes, in addition to a percentage of their & their live in partner's paychecks to go into a savings account to grow interest, end the section 8 after 2 years & send them their savings account check so they can move on. It's unfair that people expect others to take care of their & their children's NEEDS while using their money to fund their WANTS.

Section 8 needs to have a limit, 1 year! If you can't get your stuff together in that time then tuff. Its enabling people to just be extremely lazy and have no drive to do better for themselves. If you're not disabled, a single parent working and going to school or elderly, you have 1 year. Drug testing, monthly inspections, no animals... Not defending the plaintiff in this case, but she is in Florida. Overseas in her mind could be a cruise to the Bahamas. Cruises out of Florida ports can be had for a couple hundred bucks.

Maybe a family went hungry that week because their wasn't enough benefits and budget came up $200 short. Even people with Gov't assistance can save 20-30 bucks here and there to buy something nice once in a while. Also, maybe their vacation was a gift from family and/or friends? All I'm saying is that I'm not going to pretend to know their situation. With Section 8, I don't believe the government sends them money directly. I believe the government sends the money directly to the landlord and the tenant has to pay the rent balance. So, it isn't like money is in their bank account to spend on other things. Also, a 4 day western Caribbean cruise using Carnival Cruises start at 239, so, yes they are that cheap.

She shouldn't have waved the process. Chances are he would not sue in future bc he too would not want to go back to court. He seems lazy. EDIT: It seems a lot of this comment section is on her case about that vacation. There was a time I was very poor and I had family member pay for my vacation just bc they wanted me to go and they knew my struggles. So you never know why or how she took her vacation. Overseas also could just mean Jamaica, and from FLA that is a cheap trip.

Incorrect. Her deposit wouldn't have been $1,500 if her rent was $50. And how do you know the vacation was extravagant? She could have went just to visit family. It doesn't even matter if it was extravagant or not, stop thinking that because someone is on section 8 that they don't deserve anything nice out of life. You can travel for cheap. My sister went to Columbia for $109 (roundtrip) and stayed with friends while there. So she was out less than $300 for a full vacation. I can literally book a roundtrip to Spain for $219 right now. And...people get income tax or money from other ways and are allowed to live once in a while. You shouldn't want people to feel like sht their entire life, just because they can't afford things 99% of the time.

My sister was literally told by her case worker she should quit her job and she would get all the government assistance she needed as a single mom because she didn't qualify for any help working her full time job at Walmart! Says alot about a person's character!

Only 32% of tenants in NYC pay their rent themselves. the rest are on section 8. They have better cars than I do, take vacations to "their county", and scam the system for health care, and sue the landlord and the city for slipping - these people slip and fall a lot too.!

I can't afford a vacation like the plaintiff because I'm taking care of all these "oppressed, entitled" POOR PEOPLE that know the system. Deceit passed down through generation after generation!! TAKE, TAKE, TAKE...MORE, MORE, MORE

Landlords must always give an itemized repair list to tennants between 11-30 days (each state varies on timeline) if they are to keep ANY part of the security deposit.

Because you never have to worry whether they’re going to pay rent and they have mandatory state inspections to keep their apartment clean. I will only rent to section 8 once I purchase my properties.

People on section 8 can't go on vacation? They still have to give rent themselves. Section 8 doesn't pay for the whole rent. She pays for 30% of her income to the landlord.

I grew up on section 8. My mom never tore her places up but I think it happens so much in section 8 because kids tear it up. My mama didn’t play that

I NEVER EVER rent to anyone on section 8. They just don’t care about the homeowners because they think the government will pay for their crap

Wooow! That is discrimination. When I was on section 8(which helped me purchase my 1st home), I was an exquisite tenant. I have recommendations to prove it. Not everyone on section 8 is looking for a hand out or plans to remain on the program forever.

@@keemajames2551 You’re the exception and not the rule. And no, democrat, I’m not discriminating, I simply got tired of loosing money because of all of the damages that people on section 8 cost me. I know people who are getting food stamps and eating crab, lobster and prime rib while I live off of hamburger and chicken. Welfare was originally intended as a help up, but for many it’s a way of life. I am ok to giving to people who need a hand Up, but I’m not ok with people who use it as their only way to exist. The United Negro College Fund is in place for Every black person who wants to go to college for FREE, so that they can earn a degree, so they can get a job that pays enough for them to support themselves and their umpteen children. I’m Native American, (Cherokee Tribe), but I refused ALL Government handouts, free college tuition, food stamps etc. I have Not received ANY money from our Casinos. Over 50% of my tribal nation force the Government to pay something for them. The Government builds them homes and within 5 years those houses are trashed because they know that the Government will come in and rebuild their homes. People who live in the Projects destroy EVERYTHING because they know that the Government will come in a rebuild whatever they destroy. I guarantee you that if they had to pay for everything that they destroy, they would learn how to respect what was given to them by the American SLAVES, (taxpayers). That’s my 2 cents anyway

@@gt43025 I have not been so lucky. The last family who I rented to under section 8 absolutely destroyed my house. I had just remodeled the 1940s house in a very well kept neighborhood. The bratty children decided to make Spaghetti out of the looped carpeting. They destroyed the new berber carpeting. The parents decided that it was a good idea to make a large hole in the wall between the kitchen and dining room so that they watch their brats make spaghetti from the carpeting in the living room that was next to the herringbone hardwood floors in the dining room. The front covered porch was surrounded with used brick about 4 feet tall. The pillars holding up the roof of the covered front porch were destroyed by their horrible kids, who took a claw hammer to the brick on the inside of the porch because they thought it would be cool to make a “getaway” hole. Section 8 only paid 10% of the damages, so my homeowners insurance had to pay the 90%, which was over $100K in damages. Yes I did have the parents arrested and charged with destruction of private property. The parents got 2 years in jail and their hell raisers were placed in foster care. One child who was 17 at the time was also charged as an adult and spent time in jail as well. I had section 8 housing for a few tenants in an apartment complex that I own. They too destroyed the apartments they lived in. So NEVER AGAIN will I rent to someone on section 8 housing. Each month that my properties cannot be rented because of people who have NO respect for themselves or anyone else, I lost money on. I had one renter who lived in the same apartment for over 30 years. She kept her apartment immaculate. I offered several times to install new carpet in her apartment but she refused, so when she finally had to move into an assisted living facility I replaced her Orange, tan, yellow and brown Shag carpet from the early 70s, which still looked like new. I had an elderly man who rented from me for over 10 years before he died of cancer. His apartment was immaculate as well. I rewarded my good tenants with only raising their rent by $5.00 per month, when I’d have to raise everyone else’s rent by $50.00 to $75.00 per month. I hated to raise anyone’s rent but the cost of water, sewer and garbage kept going up.

I advise renters to video the walk through with the landlord with audio. Take pictures too because most will keep some or all of your deposit. It doesn’t matter if you leave the property immaculate!

For those who quickly judge her for being on section 8 I have learned long ago to stop judging how “poor folks” navigate existing in this world. While we focus on and judge the next person, no one is focused on the huge companies that make millions and get corporate welfare that we also pay for If I’m going to complain I will focus on the billionaires flying private jets that are paid for by my taxes, not someone taking a small vacation Just my two cents And just in case anyone is thinking I must be on public assistance, no , I have worked two nursing jobs and created a business that I am always nurturing on my days off I just recognize that it’s tough for many to survive this world for a variety of reasons I also know the wealthy in this world get many more breaks that are never focused on This is the oldest trick in the book, divide and conquer, keep the working poor focused on the other poor … and the wealthy keep doing what they do in plain sight but no one notices …

I just moved out from a duplex .. Rented for 12 yrs, paid on time, no payment arrangements, property condition w/o debris, or damages. Suddenly, Landlord claimed deposit was a "cleaning" deposit, contrary to rental agreement that specifie, "Security deposit"

Section 8, going on vacation overseas. My parents always taught us to work hard in life….what were they thinking! I think Ive chosen the wrong path in life. Pisses me off

is it rly so expensive to leave the USA? how much is it to go somewhere close like hawaii or the caribbean? im in the uk and i can go overseas to other parts of europe for a few hundred

My sister owns a 3 floor house, fortunetly, she has never had problems or issues with renters who are on Section 8. But most of them are so entitled and feel like people owe them something but in reality, they should be THANKFUL and appreciative of landlords like my sister. My sister has bought this house years ago and has yet been able to afford updated nice furniture or carpeting for her own apartment but those who are on section 8 in her building have really nice kitchen cabinets, flooring, and up to date clean bathroom. It's sickening how these individuals feel like they should get everything for free. SMH.

In all fairness, family members could have paid for her overseas trip. But she lied about damages being there when she moved in, she probably was scamming section 8 & did pay for her trip. But living in section 8, that’s how she saved the money at the government’s expense…

This why I don't rent to sec 8. No ma'am! There not going to trash my investment.

The last time I took a vacation it was in the late 80s 😂😂😂😂

The $1000 given back to this man was an unfair amount because what is claimed as damage does not equate to the amount given to this man for not returning her security department. And it is sad there are those on Section 8 abusing this privilege.

The defendant is ignorant. Plain and simple. He doesn't listen and wants to totally disregard the laws *that apply to HIM.* He's greedy and inconsiderate and I would never rent from a landlord with his character. And, yes, the plaintiff is acting like she owns the place - changing paint colors, etc. Buy your own property if you want it tailored to your exotic whims.

If you are low income, then why don't you apply for section 8 or income based housing? Instead of being mad someone who most likely also works wasn't silly enough to not apply?

Best thing to do is video tape a walkthrough with the owner/manager or even alone making sure to prove the date(newspaper etc in video)

What people DO know is if someone receives assistance it is because they don't have enough income to pay their full living expenses... so what angers people is the fact that if they have enough money to go on trips overseas they should have enough money to NOT receive section 8!

Landlords who participate in Section 8 are guaranteed rent & required to abide by inspection standards. You don't get claim damages when both parties signed up for it.

She’s on section 8 so she can afford to give away her furniture. I’ve had the same sofa & couch for over 20 years, and can’t afford new ones! I worked hard my whole life, and saved many lives while working, and raised 4 kids. I never got government assistance!

Also when families are on section 8. They have programs to help them to be able to do more when the income changes for the better..
